Some weird responses to this news around the site. Stephen & Jo looked pretty shattered to me.
Both looked to have aged a decade in a year. How much responsibility do they bear in raising the kid and his morals/standards v’s He is an adult and should know wrong/right.

With all the facts tendered before the court, I don’t understand the GF is standing by him while he is off in another bedroom with the other girl. Do the crime, do the time.

I don’t think the parents can be judged -

- They’ve had Tom bullshiting them for months about his ‘innocence’ so they’ve acted in his best interests

- They’ve seen their son revealed as a rapist and a liar in Court - A crushing experience

- Now they have the sentencing to ‘look forward’ to, probable incarceration of their son and all that entails.

Loss of reputation, loss of respect, doubts about their parenting, Jo in particular will probably lose all employment prospects.

They have every right to look crushed - pity their son is such a turd.

Well, until the bit where they come out of court after a guilty verdict and declare their son maintains his innocence and they're looking to clear his name:

Outside court, Stephen Silvagni said his son maintained his innocence and the family was exploring its appeal options.

“Jo and I, together with our family members and friends, are so disappointed with the outcome. We all love and support our son,” Stephen Silvagni said.

“Our son continues to maintain his innocence, and we stand firmly behind him.

“We will be considering our options to appeal and shall not be making any further comments on this case. Our goal is to clear his name and bring him home.”

False hope, a normal human re-action. Remember, sub-conciously they’re thinking ‘we’re fooked’.

My old man would have just belted me until I fessed up, but indulging children creates entitlement.

I just think the parents are in a world of hurt - I don’t kick people when they’re down - unless their actions deserve it. 😉

My situation would have been similar to yours.

I'd have copped it even for being in a position to be suspected of the crime, whether I committed it or not.

You could be right and I think in time Steveo will probably come to regret his comments when the reality of the situation settles with him.

Me either, but when it's a Carlton great involved.... ;)

I still don't have a problem with this.

I do question their judgement but I'm not going to deride them for supporting their son

Regards SOS’s statement - I’m not sure my old man would have gone that far, because he’d have already worked out if I was shitting him - and he would have made his displeasure ‘felt’ if he thought I was lying.

I knew the rules, I would have fessed.

And we wonder why this ‘date rape’ stuff continues.

I doubt SOS knows Tom well enough to know what he gets up to.

Unfortunately the only 2 people that know the actual truth are Tom and the girl involved. Such a shit situation with no winners

Not sure that anyone can dismiss the guilty verdict any more. The mate of Silvagni’s said he went home in the uber and never came back. That leaves only Silvagni in the house as the sole male. Once his mate confirmed he wasn’t there, Silvagni was as guilty as anyone has ever been.
Is anyone actually dismissing it? His parents believing their son doesn't count.

The jury of 12 reckoned they knew the truth.

"The woman reported the incident to police and 13 days after the rape, she called Silvagni, with the conversation secretly recorded by police.

He falsely claimed his friend had told him he’d actually come back into the room and that he was “really drunk” and said the night was “all a bit of a blur”.

Silvagni pressured the woman to move on with her life and forget about it."

They heard the tape.

slightly off topic but still relevant, I'm 100% confident another well-publicised rape case defendant's charges that were recently dropped (not found innocent, but charges dropped) is guilty.

this little prick knows how lucky he was to have charges dropped based on a technicality (the victim did not lie, a witness admitted lying).

I hope Bruhn gets put into a boundary fence or has his knee folded backwards ending his career.
