Clubs didn't want him because he was too fat - orca fat...The mystery to his draft slide deepens…

Yes, give a dog a bad name and all that. It's even possible we poisoned the well -- "No tank", "Figjam", "Interviewed poorly", "Too slow'', "poor defensive running", though I doubt our recruiters are that Machiavellian....Sometimes in life it only takes one person to circulate a negative view and if you do not ask the person who is the target for their side of the story you can make mistakes. Never assume anything is correct before you verify.....
I see him as a Wayne Carey/J.Brown style forward who is forced to play midfield bc of the modern game.My bad for reading it that way.
Still I can’t see him being a medium/tall marking option. One we have so many players ahead of him in that role, two I just don’t think he’d be enough of a threat to warrant it.
He’d be much better playing VFL getting as much midfield time in as possible trying to refine his game.
Less drop weight as get more toned I think. I agree though I've seen a lot worse.I see some posts saying that OG needs to drop some kgs.
Based on the very clear photos from Pinoy Hawk above.... He looks pretty good to me.
Logan Morris is the same height. Georgiades, Walker and Fogarty are 1 cm taller and Gunston is only 2 cm taller. It’s not like he’s too short to play KPFI see him as a Wayne Carey/J.Brown style forward who is forced to play midfield bc of the modern game.
He's just a very good footballer overall, with elite game sense.
Yes, endurance needs to improve too.
FIFYI see him as having a floor something like a Wayne Carey/J.Brown style forward who is forced to play midfield bc of the modern game.

A perfect match...

IMO it's much better to get senior experience in a role, than preparing at Box Hill for another role, especially if he can bring something different to the team.My bad for reading it that way.

The big thing with Weddle is that he earnt his spot as a defender. Greeves is going to have to do the same to get a spot no matter where on the field he plays.IMO it's much better to get senior experience in a role, than preparing at Box Hill for another role, especially if he can bring something different to the team.
I said the same about Weddle - better to settle in as a defender who pushes up the ground, than spending his time at Box Hill dominating as a roaming midfielder like Hird/Fyfe in preparation for the seniors.
Any senior experience is better than more responsibility at BH for your development IMO.
Agree. The big thing with Weddle is that he earnt his spot as a defender. Greeves is going to have to do the same to get a spot no matter where on the field he plays.
Especially when his running is not where it needs to be. We aren’t just going to carry him so he can get experience.
Weddle also was already a defender so he wasn’t having to learn to play a different role.
I have read your previous posts about Greeves.
You seem very familiar with him and sympathetic to OG's circumstances.
Why do you think he will overcome his so-called deficient tank?
Yeah - but did he ever play CHB for us?Opposition supporters still don’t realise how good Roughy was. He could play anywhere. While I hated the compo pick we got for Buddy, but even before hindsight, Rough and Cyril were the 2 players I never wanted to leave. I was more comfortable losing Buddy.
I suspect endurance is easier to gain through training than speed, but as you say 'genes and all that'. I think this lad could be something special. Time, as always will tell. Thanks for your posts by the way, much appreciated.I am a bit of am optimist re the ability to overcome athletic short comings, body is amazing re how it can adapt and change. As such when it comes to endurance, you can improve it a lot, not to the elite level, some people are just naturals in the same way some can just run fast. Genes and all that.
I think that in this case there has been a heavy focus on what he lacks v what he does well. He was a point guard in BBall and his awareness/vision of where his team mates are was elite, his executiuon just as good and that seems to have transferred to his footy. The game is very congested these days, players that can do this are very important, put runers on the outside and you get a good mix.
End of the day he has cost you a rookie pick, the risk is very low, he does not make it, does not really matter but if he lives up to the earlier hype could be a big reward. Can assure you the attitude stuff is total BS, like all players who get drafted its now about doing the work, listening to your coaches and playing your role.
IIRC, Campbell Brown had a specialist sprint coach very early in his career and did increase his busrt speed considerably. He was also considered on the slow side when he first came onto the list.I suspect endurance is easier to gain trough training than speed, but as you say 'genes and all that'. always the example that's brought up, but that was 25 years ago, and there's been nobody since who was slow and then made a similar improvement bc of sprint training.IIRC, Campbell Brown had a specialist sprint coach very early in his career and did increase his busrt speed considerably. If Ollie can have Brownie's career, I will be very happy indeed. Including intimidating a certain Bombers forward and smacking a certain tiger (ex GC) forward![]()
