Overall, pretty happy with the prices we've paid for the talent brought in. I think the Boyd/Paterson trade is almost a break even, if not, on paper we slightly lose. Only time will tell. I've got a suspicion neither of them will be on a list in 3-4 years time, I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Some really good KPP talks out of WA This year, Cowcher, Wolmarans, Crane, Blizard, Fotu could be a seriously cheap pickup, just gotta convince her to forget about basketball. Clear a list spot and spend pick 84 on her and make her fall in love with the girls and have her pull a Cleaver.

I think if and elite Outside mid/wing is available at first pick we send it. Just because we have "lots of mids" doesn't mean we have enough REALLY good mids..... Then I hope one of our local Talls is available @second pick. If not, then it'd be ****ing hilarious to swoop on Hyphens so that Norf don't get her. We have 36, they are 37.

You think trading back six spots and bringing in a pick 19 for a pick 53 is a slight loss as it all stands right now? Interesting. If Boyd stayed here and had another not so remarkable year next year then I feel she wouldn't have been offered a new deal, with Paterson they may give her a little more leeway..Painter should be A1 inside mid next year, but bringing Paterson in might make them anchor Painter back in the 50 again next year

It is of course my opinion.... But you are conflating pick number for player calibre. The way I see it, Paterson has talent but probably not the athletic profile to be a mid beast for us, I feel both players are effectively the same for either team, In that they probably won't add much, long term. Again, I hope I am Wrong.

If we are going down that type with our 1st pick which will probably be around 17-19 someone like Sophie Eaton SA?

They've announced the first group of girls attending the draft.

Ava Usher, Sunny Lappin, Georja Davies, Dekota Baron and Alannah Welsh (all Gold Coast )
Ally Neyland (Sydney)
Evie Cowcher (WA)
Olivia Wolmarans (WA)
Scarlett Johnson
Chloe Bown
Chloe Baker-West

So of the 11 players invited (presumably all practically guarantees to go in the first round) 6 are already spoken for. Cool system.
So while Swann is putting in place the right mechanisms for the men’s draft, Laura Kane is still in charge of the women’s draft integrity

So everyone agrees that lee-weston or whatever her name is thing is ****in horse shit right?

Really hoping someone picks her off before North’s pick, just for the sake of a bit of integrity.

It's impressive how the AFL has managed to take something that should be an enormous positive, an explosion of talent from a historically non footballing region, and make it such a negative for the two leagues

Legit wouldn't be mad if we did. It's actually putrid how all the staff at Norf are trying to make it seem like it's a morally abhorrent thing to do to pick her because she wants to go to Norf, the arrogance and entitlement. It would be so incredibly ironic to force her to move all the way West the pick before North. If she can stay on the park I reckon on talent alone she's worth the pick.

No sympathy for a former pick 1 who wasn't able to get to the unbeatable juggernaut team for peanuts.

Someone else better draft her.
I don't think it'll happen. This league and these clubs are always about scratching each others backs. Only on a rare occasion like meat-headed Adelaide with Ah Chee does common sense usually prevail.

Went for a lil walk through the Norf boards and came across this..... I will shout it from the rooftops if need be, WHY THE **** AREN'T WE BRINGING IN IRISH TALENT AS ROOKIES.

This is something I was thinking about recently. We started off so well with the Kelly sisters and McCarthy and now all of a sudden we don't care anymore?

They were fine with giving 34 year old netballer Verity Simmons a year though.. 🤷‍♂️

Rookieme are pumping out draft previews for each team in alphabetical order so hopefully we have some real insight later today ☺️ I'm nowhere near it in terms of being across all the national talent, I have been watching the crop of local talent for a few years now though. AlphaSheep is our local knowledge Autist in terms of draft talents 😘

Absolute head scratcher to me, like, in terms of risk/cost/reward ratio its ****ing negligent to to see it as one of the best and cheapest ways to bring elite talent into your program. Look at the list of all the top teams...

The whole system really falls over if clubs don't bargain with each other in good faith but then let the player involved get to their preferred destination. Adelaide got Ah Chee for free. Double hyphen will probably get to North for a late second round pick. What's to stop clubs from just offering peanuts for good players who are out of contract if they know that they can just get the player for free once everyone honours the player's preference on destination?

Exactly, its coersion really. Clubs like North get to extort the Doggies in a sense like that. "Take this meager offering or you get nothing". This will lead to an even further divide as the powerhouse clubs get to just pick the talent out of the struggling clubs at ****ing will. Players have so much say in what trades get done. India Rasheed did it last draft, declaring herself a flight risk and getting to Adelaide way further up the draft than she should have gone.

On a brighter note, we're looking pretty good for next year's draft.....perhaps we are banking on a pick bundle for the Zippiest of all Fish. 😉

2026:
WCE R1
WCE R2
WCE R4
BL R4
CAR R4
RIC R4

We have an Irish player training with us that WCE are interested in however I don't believe this season will see her drafted, 2027 could be a go after a year in the WAFLW

Interesting.... Was she a high profile player in Gaelic? Looks like she's already completely settled in Perth which is a plus

This was posted yesterday apparently so sorry if this is a re-post. Shifter Sheehan's top 30 prospects for the upcoming AFLW draft. Yeah, it's no mock draft with bidding consequences or anything but it's literally better than the nothing we've gotten from everyone else.

Here's another posted today, Former AFLW player Phoebe McWilliams top 20 prospects to look out for.

From Gemma Bastiani's trade wrap of every club. Kav's delisting was so late she wasn't even included.

IN
Ella Slocombe (trade, North Melbourne), Keeley Skepper (trade, Carlton), Lily Paterson (trade, Port Adelaide)

OUT
Dana Hooker (retired), Courtney Lindgren (delisted), Annabel Johnson (delisted), Lucy Boyd (trade, Port Adelaide)

The Eagles continued to add to their already exciting young list with classy runner Ella Slocombe and skilful inside midfielder Lily Paterson both returning to their home state. Slocombe will neatly replace the retired Dana Hooker on the wing, adding her endurance and ball use to help West Coast's transition game, while Paterson's inclusion on the ball releases the likes of Ella Roberts and Bella Lewis to be used in more versatile ways. Keeley Skepper adds to the small forward conversation, likely to thrive at the feet of talls like Charlotte Riggs, Lucia Painter, and Lauren Wakfer should she develop her fitness.
