They were tied into the same resolution apparently so you couldn't vote yes for one and no for the other.

Personally I would've voted yes to both, but strategically one resolution is a bit of a mess up...did they think it was a mere formality to get up?
Probably. Seems that way.

Hey yes they did think it would pass easily, a couple of ex North types dug their heels in ( I think), leaving everyone scratching their heads. I think they will separate them and go again at some point.

Not a fan of bundling together things that ultimately have nothing to do with each other - obviously a miscalculation in retrospect.

Who were they and how can they, alone, block the resolution?

They surely don’t control 27% of the membership base?

Yeah for sure but ... obviously some people are allowing their egos to undermine stuff.

Maybe we should be expecting that every time but to lose by so little ... I reckon the work they did beforehand on doing the numbers they thought they had 80% plus support.

I have no insider knowledge, but I suspect that the vast majority of members don't vote at all unless there is an absolute crisis that is being well covered in media. It wouldn't surprise me if it only took a relatively very small number of people to push this over. Remember they need 3/4 majority - so that 27% only needed to fall slightly differently. Could be a few hundred votes or even less.

My personal view is that they make voting too old school and difficult = low voting in general. This really should be able to be done via a secure platform - say like the existing one we have to login as members so that more members can vote. I suspect the club knows the current methodology gets very low voting numbers and it is usually happy because this is in its favour.

A little more education and explanation of its relevance around the B Corp stuff might be helpful for the member base.

Would like to see the leadership bit resolved even out of normal sessions, we don't have an Armada of well connected, astute and politically savvy operators ready to jump in.

We need either a smart, sharp type (Sonja) or a bulldozing type (Kennett/McGuire ignoring their many negatives for a moment) for our particular club.

Vanilla and shit flavoured varieties like Buckley or Duff are the last thing we need.

Since we don't have an emerging Kerry Packer "take down City Hall" type available, we are best served with an astute nimble type like Ms Hood for the foreseeable future.

Don't discount laziness.

Our media department produces SFA, there's little chance we have a 24/7 politically war-room thinking these things out too much.

I was there. From what I could gather from the proxies announced, to get that % outcome, it was 80-90 against and 250ish in favour. So decided by about 350 members who bothered to vote by proxy or turn up to the meeting.

The current constitution only allows voting at AGM in person or by proxy, so they’d have to amend it to allow for different modes of voting on resolutions like this.

Intrigued to know what the plan the no voters are seeing?

Is it just the old "make Ricky Ponting president" chestnut?

I’m a fan of Sonja and think she’s doing a great job, but I think it’s a little premature to be changing the constitution for her. If we show clear signs of improvement next year I think it’ll get done, but can’t blame folks for voting no on the back of such poor men’s results.

Yep let's do it.

Ricky as president.

Peter Bell as CEO.

Nathan Buckley as coach.

The Bigfooty "I feel passionately about headlines without reading the articles" populus have spoken.

Yup, that’s as I understand it.

So 250 members gave proxy’s to the board to enact the resolution.

Are we saying 90 people turned up in person to vote against it?

80-90 members voted against it all by chance, with no co-ordination?

Or 80-90 members gave proxy’s to one or two non board members to proxy vote against the resolution?

If I’m being honest, it sounds like one of the coterie groups must have been against the idea, as it’s really the only way one can co-ordinate a 90 votes to be against a proposal like this.

There wouldn’t be many families who have 90 memberships purchased all up, to control such a huge block.

ha of course, I wasn't there, so not sure, but is what I heard, and nah won't say who :)

Ricky as president.
Would be the greatest thing to happen to our football club in its entire history. Greater than the flags, greater than Careys impact, Greater than any one before.

Ricky Ponting would make this club a “big club”

I like Ricky Ponting.

Not sure of his experience with deal brokering and corporate governance.

I imagine he doesn't have to cut through a lot of red tape to change the label on a bottle of Ponting Wine.

There isn't anything greater than flags what are you on about turkey?!

The bundling of the resolutions together seems like a massively random WTF.

Half the supporter base probably has zero clue as to what a B Corp certification is, and would care even less whether the club has one because of that, and would vote no just because they don't understand it.
