Jack has been given permission to train away from the main group until January but apparently his groin injury has flared up again so it's on a modified program anyway.

It's starting to feel like we dodged a bullet. Especially with JoD coming back stronger and running really well too.
He's pretty vocal at training by all accounts so seems set to become our backline leader.

His injury is definitely worse then let on. There is a reason he failed medicals.

Originally it was meant to stand for a further 3 months. I agree 100% a person facing trial for such accusations deserves anonymity and in this case it was lifted as it should be. I also agree you can't judge his brothers, parents or family as a whole for the terrible things he has done nor for trying to give him the best lawyers possible, he has put them in a very tricky position.
My comments were more leveled at the system then those in this case, the avenue to get an extension on a gag order for crimes like this, once found guilty shouldn't exist. The fact it took media pressure and the victim going to social media for that gag order to be given up on is pretty sad.

I wouldn't wish any of these outcomes on any family rich, poor or otherwise. It is just a sad reality that families are often left negatively perceived by the broader community when one member is the issue.
Sure, but you cant expect an institution who's reason for being is a system of checks and balances with a view to equity and fairness to be as agile as the cess pool that is social media. A space that his quick to judge has no respect for anything or anybody let alone checks and balances, fairness or even social norms.

Situations as serious as this case always leaves a trail of destruction in its wake. It's not a zero sum game.

With all of the family stuff going on, I wonder if we were ever a chance or if St Kilda was his only option from the beginning in order to be closer to his old man. Wouldn't be the first time we've been used by player agents as merely a negotiating tool.

We seemed pretty confident until the saints blew us out of the water with an extra $200k pa.

Smart business not to match it.

Even before he failed medicals, his games per year suggested a fragile body, that and the fact he barely played as a key defender had me baffled as to why some of the posters here portrayed some sort of a failure by our recruiting team to have St. Kilda beat us too him. And that we missed out on a gun Key defender.

It is clear now all we did is push up his price and the Saints took the bait. How is that media love fest of the Saints becoming contenders after winning the trade period starting to look now

I maintain that he was never the answer to our issues anyway.

Norm if it was the Answer, I shudder to think of the Question
The question was as it always is around trade time:

Why for you not do somefing bulldogs?"

JSOS would have been fine at 4 years 600k. Saints offering what they did was ridiculous.

Also ridiculous how Saints tried to sell SOS had nothing to do with it.

He is good when he gets on the paddock, but not at the price we were going to pay... let alone St Kilda's price

Budarick moves the needle for us just as much as a mature KPD would.

For mine Jack being a competent KPD comes from such small sample size before he injured himself that it makes the metric meaningless. My abiding view of his career is that he's always been that he's a Jack of all trades master of none. I doubt his recruitment would've done much for us given he wouldn't have had Weitering to fall back on. It reminds me of the all of the talk about how we'd screwed up when we let Roughead go. When the reality of his revived career at fullback when he went to Collingwood was that he was surrounded by gun backs and could just play his role.

Anyways... he's St.Kildas issue now.

And teh pile onto a family that did nothing more than defend their son began
'Nothing more?' The pile on is completely justified tbh. The best way for them to support their son was to let him face the consequences of his actions, not use to their wealth to help him avoid any consequences. No wonder the guy is an entitled little prick

He is going to face the consequences of his action - sounds like a minimum of 10 years inside, which sounds like an absolute nightmare to me.
His family - and I would do the same thing - tried to protect him as much as they could by seeking a suppression order.
The real issue is how the justice system allows wealthy and influential people to retain an anonymity that regular Joes can't afford or access.
There's currently another high profile football person who has a sexual assault case against them - he's from the agent/managerial side of things - and he too is under a suppression order.
Justice should be blind, but it's not.

If it's legal to suppress a name or details there's nothing wrong with it. The suppression is not "purchased" by an influential family. The Silvagnis are very recognisable but really, what is their influence outside the narrow sphere of football?

It is literally purchased by the unequitable amounts (compared to the victim) that they can spend on legal counsel to navigate the law.

Realistically, about half of that, looking at the recent sentencing snapshot for rape and given that the judge will take things into account like his age and lack of previous offending.

No it isn't.

It's a ****ing disgrace. But it is a mirror held up to society and a reflection of how far down the shitter social media has driven us.

Wrong.

Now I dont know if you have children, but put yourself in the shoes of the Silvangis who faced the shattering and life changing situation of their son being tried for the egregious crime of rape. Something that he was and continues protesting his innocence of. If I was faced with such a horror I would back my son with all the wealth that I have and give him the best opportunity and defence that I could possibly afford.

I would deal with the consequences of the juries verdict after the event.

As the Silvagnis currently are.

Maybe if the Silvagni's exposed their children to more consequences, they wouldn't have a 25 year old convicted rapist that needs correction. Given the doctored uber receipts, it seems like a lifetime of evading consequences is likely the causation.

Or you could put yourself in the shoes of the victim or victim's family. The Silvagnis aren't the victims here. He's been found guilty and now they're using their high profile to continue protesting his innocence, basically calling the victim a liar. Show's what a disgusting family they are tbh

Exactly! Daddy gifting Jack a contract that no other club was ready to match says a lot too tbh

Sure, and as my dear old grand dad used to say. "If the dog didnt stop for a shit, we'd have had rabbits for dinner."

What we do know is that they currently have a convicted rapist for a son.

Just because one is raised around money. Doesn't make one an entitle little shit prone to rape.

Believe me. Tom will get all the correction coming his way in jail.

Given the doctored uber receipts, it seems like a lifetime of evading consequences is likely the causation.

A stupid man does stupid thing to try and avoid the consequences of his actions.

A story as old as time.

Or you could put yourself in the shoes of the victim or victim's family. The Silvagnis aren't the victims here.

Show me evidence of the Silvangis being complicit in any wrongdoing beyond supporting their son. I'll wait.

He's been found guilty and now they're using their high profile to continue protesting his innocence, basically calling the victim a liar.

You don't understand how the legal system works do you? He's been found guilty of rape. Remanded into custody and like all prisoners has the right of appeal. As it stands he is a rapist.

The problem with speaking in such absolutes is that until a few days ago Greg Lynn was a convicted murder in what appeared to be an open and shut case.

See the problem now?

Show's what a disgusting family they are tbh

It shows a family that is willing to risk it all on the word of their son. Now they may be blinded by that word but it doesn't make them disgusting. What's disgusting is keyboard warriors piling on to them like they were directly involved in the rape.
