Scandal Marlion Pickett - In Custody for multiple offences - Later bailed.

Pickett has been charged by WA Police with four counts of aggravated burglary, with three counts of stealing and three counts of criminal damage among his other charges.
The alleged offences took place between December 2022 and January 2023.
Pickett has a “strong intent” to defend himself, his manager Anthony Van Der Wielen told 7NEWS in a statement.

Racist comments will immediately cop a long break from Bigfooty, discuss the issue not the skin colour or race.
Thank you.

P.S This thread has nothing to do with the Clarkson/Racism review discussion.
This thread is not the place to discuss the prison system and prisoner rehabilitation, you can take that to the SRP board.
This is the scandals and rumours board only, please stay on topic in here.

A general issue I have is the misuse of the word 'privilege'. People who work their asses off to get where they have gotten to are not 'privileged'. Getting something handed to you by birthright and no effort of your own is 'privilege'; then acting entitled and as if you earned it makes it worse.

The classic example that you often hear is that the majority of Hollywood stars and US pro athletes are relatively fine and in the main it's their entourages and hangers-on who throw their weight around and act like entitled arses.

Let’s be clear here he hasn’t been found guilty in any way of ‘thievery’

It’s very possible that he/his wife lent her brother some money, that brother went on to clearly commit some crimes and then has repaid the money owed from the proceeds of those crimes with Marlion non the wiser to how the brother got that money

In reality that’s far, far more believable then an AFL player on good coin master minding a criminal conspiracy during the AFL season

The fact they charged him with all of it at the start was just a gambit from the cops and it reflects poorly on them

All that supposed early evidence of phone pings and someone in the plan turning and dobbing Pickett in seems to have gone very quiet or more likely never have existed for the charges to be dropped

On meth while still playing AFL?

Suspicious Monkey GIF by MOODMAN

Family and friends getting him back on drugs while bludging his money under "obligations"

Makes it hard.

Mmmm.

Probably one of those issues that outsiders know nothing about and absolutely not highlight as a cultural problem - rather than 'part of the culture'.

Very disappointed to read this.

Seems it was a bad idea going back to WA, he seemed to be thriving in VIC.

What a damned shame. And IMO the odds are strong that he'll offend again or get caught up in some more trouble if he stays in WA.

The tigers supplements program hits different

No doubt this is why they won the 2019-20 flags for real.

You can take the boy out of WA but you can't take WA out of the boy.

Boys club is an interesting way to put it. Don’t think Marlion is the chino/RM wearing Xavier alumni type.
References from high-profile figures including former Richmond CEO Brendon Gale helped Pickett avoid jail, as the two charges he pleaded guilty to both carried a maximum penalty of 20 years.

Sounds a bit "boys club" to me.

How does this guy not get jailed for that?
Judge was a Tigers supporter.

Benny Gale? Sounds like Tassie should lose their licence.

I know it makes good news but I seriously doubt this sort of character reference is going to make or break the deal. It's good for triggering people though.

How does this guy not get jailed for that? Especially given his previous jail sentence clearly he didnt learn his lesson

I'm guessing a number of reasons such as:
  • long period between the two charges (since you mentioned his previous incarceration)
  • non-violent nature of the offence, reducing the immediate risk to society if he stays out of prison
  • responsibility to care for and provide for his children - incarcerating Marlion would probably cause the sort of hardship for his family that is heavily linked to an increased rate of offending

None of which means I agree or disagree with the outcome
