Surely we couldn’t go another season without debuting a player. The current list of players yet to debut are in order of time on the list are;

Bodie Ryan

Will McCabe

Jaime Uhr-Henry

Noah Mraz

Cody Anderson

Matt Hill

Ollie Greeves

Cam Nairn

Aidan Schubert

Matt LeRay

Jack Dalton

Barring injury, I can’t see a lot of opportunities opening up. The back half of the ground is stacked with talent and the front half of the ground is pretty healthy too. The only place we are thin is in the middle of the ground including the wings. This would have the likes of Anderson, Greeves, Dalton, LeRay and Nairn well placed. However, the two most deserving of a call up play in defense where we have the most cover, Mraz and Ryan. I still think they will be the most likely to play ones, even if we have to change things around to accommodate them. Be interested to hear what others think.

A lot can happen over the course of a season - injuries, player management and loss of form among the senior players, dominant games for Box Hill by the hopefuls.

I like McCabe as a tall winger. Greeves looks ready to mix it with older players. Mraz is ready to step into any opening in the back half. Nairn could easily slot into a half forward vacancy.

Probably just Mraz, Dalton and Nairn.

Dalton a sneaky chance to play 5+ games next year if things fall his way.
As much as it’s exciting to see new players coming through, I feel like anything more than 2 or 3 games for Dalton would mean bad things for us as a team as it would likely point to a severe drop in form or lengthy injury list for our midfield/flank brigade.

Keen to see Mraz get a few games and would love for McCabe to get a couple of games a show a bit - not sure what his position will be though.

As a smoky - I’m excited by what Matt Hill could do for our forward line if he can make it as an AFL player. 1 or 2 games for him this year couple be interesting

Hard to predict given our depth on every line. It will probably come down to injuries, managing players during the year or form ….. and the given position/role they can play in the side.

I'm being optimistic with the 5+ games prediction but it's based on my feeling that we have lacked a high possession winning midfielder since Mitchell left and Dalts could fill this spot.

I personally like the philosophy of rewarding VFL form as the main criteria for getting a call up to the seniors so it's way to early to really know who will get a call up.

The order at the moment would be

Mraz
McCabe
The Beast
Nairn
Dalton
Hill
Greeves
LeRay
Schu

I reckon we may see 3-4 debuts next season which will give some of our senior players a chop out so they are cherry ripe for finals.

Om what basis? As a small forward hill would be miles in front.

If looking for versatility, maybe not
In terms of running an AFL game out. There's no more subs.

Out of the yet to debut crowd there's some serious talent

Potential A Graders: Noah Mraz(kpd), Will McCabe(Scrimshaw type hbf or could be used forward as well), Cam Nairn(med forw who can play some mid minutes) Aidan Schubert (agile moving tall with vice like hands and quality general field kicking. Might take a couple years to get up to a physical standard so he doesn't suffer from repetitive injuries from debuting too early with too soft of a body)

Good Role Players: Matt LeRay(quality kicking/marking/contest winger, kindve moves like and physically like a young Hodge but without his intense contested winning nature, but you could swap Lukes head on Matts body and hes a young chubby Luke lol) Jack Dalton (ridiculous work rate and accumulating ability, might need to work on hurt factor and handling more contested situations, but has a good group of traits to work with, he should watch Sam Mitchell, Lachie Neale and Luke Hodges midfield playstyles as inspiration on impact to improve his hurt factor imo)

That's why I thought we won the draft this year because theres 4 guys who could debut this year which is a great result from the draft from my pov

Ryan and Anderson could have an impact early and could uncover a drive and passion to get better? They might be on track to debut over a few of the youngsters who might have to wait.

Tldr:
If i had to guess at debutants this year, the whispers are that Anderson will get a shot at a few games, Mraz is too good to play Box Hill and if Barras or Battle miss a game he should debut imo, Nairn looks a special talent and I expect he puts his hand up to debut at some point and LeRay will be pressuring Morrison for that wing spot from day 1 imo, Ryan and McCabe may get a couple games to see how they go? Dalton might get a debut if our midfield is a mess or injuries hit, otherwise I expect he has a full year at Box Hill

I don't know about being first but I think Greeves will surprise many with how many times he plays seniors.
I think he'll debut within the first five rounds.
That's a big call. Worpel debuted in R6 in a much weaker team and Dyl waited over a year for his debut.

You know if he keeps building on his current pre season i can see it. It all depends on the rest of his pre season and how he performs against others in the match sim

When more match sim happens we will get a good idea of where Dalton, Greeves and Anderson sit leading into practice matches. It will be hard to push into midfield with newc, day, ward, nash, mackenzie, butler, maginness, hustwaite in front of them. I think only 5 or 6 of that bunch will play and watson, cmac, moore, weddle will play more midfield.

With 3x defenders playing in the SoO game we will get a good look at Bodie Ryan and Noah Mraz in the 1st practice game which Battle, Barrass and Hardwick won't play I don't think Sicily will play that game either.

So practice match 1 could be

B: Scrimshaw, Blank, Ryan
HB: Impy, Mraz, MacDonald

Mraz and Ryan
Nairn a chance if plenty of injuries,
the rest, who knows? Nobody picked Calsher to be that good, might be another hidden in there
Maybe you didn't, but a few had seen his GF game pre-draft. The indicators were there.

FWIW, my gut feel says Greeves will debut early.

Will be clearer who is knocking the door down once the first pre season games roll through.

I do think the change to the sub rule favours anyone with a massive tank or who is filling a clear role.

Mraz covers one of Sicily, Barass, Battle, Scrim. He will play this year.

Bodie Ryan covers [PLAYERCARD]Blake Hardwick[/PLAYERCARD], Jarman Impey or situations where there are 3 or 4 dangerous small forwards. Has to play this year.

Cam Nairn. Won't be as automatic a selection as 2008 Cyril. But i can't see Sam Mitchell not throwing him into the forward mix this year if he kicks bags at Box Hill.

Mids -cMac, Mckenzie, Hustlewaite Butler and Finn deservedly get the first chance to fix our midfield woes. If Dalton, Greeves or the Beast turn it on at Box Hill I can see them being brought in to give Day a game or two to load manage throughout the season.

Likewise, Josh Weddle needs to be load managed throughout the year considering his ongoing back situation. It could be McCabe or Lecray who puts their hand up to cover Josh.

Which debutant is able to force their way into the side come finals is the more pertinent question.

Unless there are structural injuries, Dalton and Nairn are the two who could have 2008 Cyril type impact at this early check point.

This!
WE have a great generational list with some really serious young talent to play at BHH next year, just thin on experience. Brisbane used 37 players, Sydney had the lowest with 31, I would be looking at least 4 or 5 to get a game. Pumped to see who gets up.

The Beast would be ahead of Hill at the moment.

And Dalts is ahead of both.

It's known I've got a big wrap on this kid, but I honestly (injury aside) think he's a genuine bolter for Round 0 / 1

He's super fit, has a great tank - and isn't slow off the mark like I read on here somewhere - has awesome hands and most importantly an incisive 'footy brain'.

If Watson / CMac are going to start in the middle next season, then Dalts is the obvious 'new' face to start at HHF rotating through the middle in short bursts.

The kid just soaks up footy knowledge from the coaches - and is often doing 'extras' off his own back with senior players.

Really excited to see what this guy can bring to the AFL next season.
