Battle over for Gisborne for now.
As expected, staying in Bendigo, for what the club hopes will be a one and out season.
Statement reads.

Despite the dedicated efforts of the GFNC Committee over many months, we regret to advise that the club has been left with no alternative but to continue competing in the Bendigo FNL for the 2026 season,” the statement read.

While this is not the outcome we were hoping for, we ask all members to stand united in supporting our club and playing group throughout the season.

The Committee will now focus on planning for a transition to the Ballarat FNL in 2027.
Wonder if they’ll find it hard getting their players back for 2027 when some leave for other clubs now…

Absolutely they will , particularly given the publicity that has surrounded .
Players will join a club and enjoy the club and in particular security on where they’ll be playing in future .

Can't be right. They were just going to nick off to the Supreme Court and get it overturned.

I wouldn’t underestimate the efforts they made to try and find a way out but ultimately you can’t beat city hall
The AFL owns the game and does what it likes without any mechanism for questioning their decisions just look at the ridiculous situation with the Kyneton women

I wasn't mocking Gisborne. AFL Vic have handled them, Kyneton women's and Barooga terribly.

But I said all along that this would be the outcome.

They’re sticking fat, particularly at senior level.
Expecting the Dogs to be their usual force to be reckoned with on the footy field and netball courts.
Waters is a great coach where many of the senior guys would play under him where ever they played.

The rumours are no reserves and thirds which if true will hurt the club

It’s a terrible situation and absolutely ridiculous there is no avenue to appeal an AFL decision
Heard Gisborne was told to expect court to cost 20k per day and potentially costs if they lost so it was impossible
Perhaps it should be called the unAustralian Football League?

Let alone the competition

Absolute debacle all this.
The sun comes up tomorrow, and whilst the Bendigo FL officials are no doubt grinning amongst themselves, the Gisborne FNC will dust themselves off and do their best to field 3 teams however it's to look and feel.

Could they re-group and go out with a bang?
Fully fit they probably would've won it this season yeh?

I hope they win it next year. What a pisser that would be!

South comfortably beat them twice last season in the home and away. They beat Sandhurst easily as well but don’t think it would have been that clear cut if all teams were fully fit.

Gizzy also beat Eaglehawk twice during the home and away season, so I think people underestimate them a bit and tends to think only of how it ended after injuries took hold.
They'll be a contender.

I can’t see how you win a flag with either no seconds team or one made up of 45 year olds like last season
History tells you they can.
They were one win off playing in a GF last year with the same scenario. Injuries cruelled them.
You'd hope, if you're a Gisborne fan, the injuries won't be as bad this year.

On paper yes but they were going like a busted one for the last third of the season and it was a relief when it ended because the grand final would have been far from the fairy tale we got
As soon as they got four or five injuries there was no depth to cover and they ended up having to play half fit players
Having said that it feels like the competition overall has dropped over the off-season so if they get lucky and keep their best 22 out there who knows

Apparently Matt Filo has gone to Elmore and Maine has also lost the big ruckman Balta
Can’t see them improving ladder position now
