No speculating on alleged 'rumours'

Thanks all!

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

This will be a good little test for Elijah, the Christmas/New Year break is always a tricky time for people with substance abuse issues, the time away from the club, things going badly or going well can cause people to slip up.
If he’s doing well upstairs he’ll get through the break no problem, turn up in ripping condition, hit the track running and he’ll be one step closer to getting that last spot.

I think why we should sick with this kid is simple, can you imagine the story if this kid gets it right next year.
He was dead and buried, if he works he’s way back from that onto the list and then starts performing on field look out.
Elijah actually plays with skill and heart, every time he gets a touch or does something good, it would fire up the crowd and the roar when he kicks a goal will be deafening.
Imagine he plays a game like the Geelong game this year, we’d all be right behind him going bananas, thats the kinda emotion he could bring to our team.
I think you need to have some adversity sprinkled into the playing list, it can actually be inspiring for everyone, you can’t just have all cookie cutter good boys at the club.

So it comes down to Will White, who let’s face it isn’t even likely to get a game or some speculative tall that will most likely never play game versus a player who could slide straight into our best 22 and have a real impact.

I think it comes down to risk versus reward.

Do we go for a low risk option / low reward selection in White - low reward in terms of how many others are ahead of him, and he may be at best a depth player.

Or the higher risk, high reward player in Elijah. Some risk in relapse, and reoccurrence of personal issues versus reward of best 22 skills and quality.

It’s the 40th or so player on the list so I would go the higher risk /reward option. So I’m calling it early:

Welcome to Carlton Elijah…..again. 😃

Exactly this. Why choose a player who's at best depth when you can select a guy who's a clear best 23 and if he puts it all together has high upside. If it was a depth player who would be on the fringes and play 15 or so games it would be a tougher competition but with a healthy list it's hard to see White getting a run. It's Elijah's spot to lose in my opinion. But I think we all need to chill and see how the rest of preseason goes first otherwise the discussion here just goes in circles saying the same stuff until then.

The risk isn’t just a relapse but the damage his behaviour may have on other players / the group. This isn’t a first **** up for him and no other club wanted to touch him when shopped around for free. Says something about how high the risk is. Look, good luck to him. Hopefully he sorts his off field stuff out. But the odds are heavily stacked against seeing 8 clean, drama free good output seasons out of Eli. I would’ve preferred a KPD was trialed and given the spot but in the absence of that I’ll defer to White.

I think this might be less of risk now Rappa.

The club and players are aware of the issues and struggles EH went through this year. Its also been reported the players were consulted before Elijah was asked to train on for the SSP spot, so the players (his team mates) are supportive of giving him another chance and fully aware of his issues/struggles this year.

If he was selected and then relapsed, I think there’d be mostly disappointment and sadness that it didn’t work out for him, rather than any damage ..

You make good points Rappa, however the Club's management and more importantly his team mates saw fit to give him a chance to redeem himself and earn their trust back. There is no doubting his football ability, his is very talented. It seems that he has done everything right since his relapse (whatever that may have entailed), if he can earn a spot back that's great for all concerned. For years we have bemoaned that the club has automatically thrown troubled but talented players out the door, I think the club should be commended on this occasion for how this has been handled, kudos to the young fella also.
(PS I was sceptical initially and thought he needed to be shown the door).
