My team for R1 at this stage, looking to see who claims a spot from my bench options.

FF: Rachele Thilthorpe Pedlar
HF: Ah Chee Fogarty Keays
C: Hinge Dawson Cumming
R: O’Brien Curtin Soligo
HB: Milera Keane Michalanney
FB: Worrell Butts Bond

Int: Walker Laird ANB

1 of: Edwards/Nankervis/Cook (W/HB)
1 of: Peatling/Taylor (M-F)

Suspended: Rankine
Underdone: Draper

Zero chance Peatling is on the cusp of best 23. If healthy he is one of the first 15 picked.

Side pretty much right on. Nankervis and Peatling in

List the 8 picked after him. Behind him I’ve got Pedlar, Taylor & Berry from our last 23 forward/mids, can’t think of anyone else he’s certain to be ahead of. Unless he’s moving to a wing to replace Cumming. Every other spot is pretty much locked in till end of June.

I don’t think he’s close to being in doubt, but he’s borderline top 15, if at all.

Well it's a tricky question.

I was talking about Peatling being one of our first 15 picked - effectively ranking our most important players (I have pestling ahead of ROB but they would never compete for a spot in the actual side).

From that side I think Peatling gets picked before Pedlar, Cumming, Hinge, O'Brien, Bond, Nank, Walker, Laird, Milera, Butts. I would have him on par with Keys, FOG, Max, ANB, Soligo.

Bond, Nank and Butts aren’t in the 23 without injuries. Agree otherwise, except I’d have him slightly behind the last 5 mentioned. Keays is a watch though.

Our midfield is not good. Rankine and Dawson pick themselves, but not necessarily as mids. Outside of them, all of the “midfield” spots should be up for grabs. Soligo probably next safest, given his youth, and his performance when at his best.

Why is Keays a watch?

Has been top 10 B&F last 3 years.

I just can’t see any of those players being dropped while Peatling plays.

Peatling is a good player but feels like he’s now in the position of being an ‘ok’ midfielder at a standard we must improve on to become a better team.

So either he takes his game to another level or we’re using his spot to try a potentially better midfielder - eg Curtin, Rachele, Draper.

It's interesting Peatling has been playing mainly for thr B team.

At the moment, would have thought Berry would be 1st out of the inside midfielders.

Seems like training nonsense

Peatling was far more effective at AFL level last year and should be the first choice by a mile

Yup, and likely to help the B team with clearance work (seeing Rachele has also ended up there once or twice). Seeing there are four missing sub spots and Pealting has been a midfield rotation, it's a brave call to make to say he's not an automatic lock.

Why is Keays a watch?

Has been top 10 B&F last 3 years.

Thought he had a patch last year where he struggled a bit. And he’s not blessed with natural talent, his one wood is effort and work rate. Those types can drop off quickly if they start struggling to recover from their injuries.

I have Berry nowhere near our First 23 after his finals fiasco - Peatling way ahead of him.

Peatling has more weapons than Berry, particularly pace.

Feel like we have been teased with glimpses of what Berry can do, but not convinced he can perform consistently at top level. Let's see if he can prove me wrong.
