Gee whiz….how long ago did I make that post on “the curse being lifted” and what was its context. 6 years minimum I reckon.

You pulled that one from somewhere in the annals.
August 25, 2019. Do you remember what was going on at that point in time? I know both GC clubs finished last in 2019 and our women's teams hadn't entered their respective leagues yet, so something else must have happened. Perhaps the rumours about Fifita and Tino signing for the Titans were doing the rounds? Google suggests Tino's signing was officially announced in November 2019, so perhaps this was rumoured a few months earlier when you made that post?

Those were certainly big signings at the time, but we know now that the Titans ended up under achieving with those guys on their list and Fifita is with Souths now. I've seen Tino has been linked to a move west to the Perth Bears for a while now and they recently signed his brother to a contract so those rumours aren't going anywhere until Tino puts them to bed with a contract extension. I also saw him saying something to the effect of 'I want to see improvement', which tells me that he's probably gone if the Titans don't drastically improve on field in 2026. So perhaps there still is a curse in play for the Titans...

Anyway, hopefully the next 5-10 years is far brighter for all Gold Coast teams and I think that's going to include a new basketball team soon. We've been through some pretty dark days as a city when it comes to pro sports and I really hope we turned a corner after that Dave Swallow goal (point) in September that brought us all so much joy.

Sorry GC I have no idea what the context was. Maybe it was the date of the Skase 30 year contract ending. I’m leaning towards that.
I really don’t know.

Fair enough mate. I can't remember either.

Curses don't exist. I guess you could blame it on the fact both the Suns and Titans haven't been around that long.

Wasn't sure where to put this

How exciting! My understanding is the last box we need to tick to get an NBL team is for construction to begin on the new 12,000 seat Gold Coast Arena that will overlook the Broadwater. City Council already owns the land at Carey Park and put out expressions of interest for partners earlier this year. Apparently the list of potential partners will be shortened down to two and that will be presented in a council meeting in the first quarter of 2026 before they vote on which partner to pick. My guess is it'll end up being a promotion company like TEG and they'll share ownership of the arena with the City Council. Hopefully the NBL approve us to play in the Convention Centre for a year or two before we move into the new GC Arena around 2030.

It'll be awesome to have a local sports team to get behind during the summer months. Right now we're certainly lacking as a city in that regard.
