Thought it was a great PPV, but one thing let it down and I'm curious to know if it's just me...

I had ZERO interest in Moxley's story culminating in winning the continental classic. I thought, instead, it appeared as though they were doing a really strong job of weakening Mox while making Claudio and Pac primed to turn on him. So for the eventual pay off to be a babyface 'overcoming the odds' just felt completely at odds with the story I thought I was following.

That, coupled with the fact that Okada is currently the weakest of the 4 finalists in-ring at this stage their careers. So once the opening matches had concluded I just had no anticipation for the eventual final later in the night. The match felt super dull as well. Again though, was it just me?

Besides that, Mox vs Fletcher was MOTN. Kyle just keeps upping his game in Ospreay's absence.

Loved every second of Kidd (who is in ripper shape) vs Allin.

Also very happy to see the belt back on MJF. I need a long term program with Swerve chasing him for the belt now.

Mox cracked his tooth in 2 after smashing his face into the steps.

Question is, does he wait til after the next show before he has it repaired so he looks like a madman?

I was mighty impressed at how quickly yet organically they turned Mox into the face. Certainly subverted my expectations but AEW has received quite a lot of flack of being too predictable.

Thought the show overall was pretty good, not in the top half of the year though (which was admittedly ridiculously stacked).

Not mad at MJF winning, not particularly excited either. Hopefully next year we get reigns for the Ospreay/Takeshita/Bandido era, of which MJF is certainly part of.

Now about to board my flight to catch Take and Okada in person!

I'll take a short reign for Darby and/or Kingston somewhere in here.

Another very enjoyable PPV on a similar level to other shows, post All In.

Takeshita v Okada gave us a tease of what’s to come, when they inevitably cross paths again in the near future.

Fletcher v Moxley was easily the match of the night. A great finish that kept Fletcher strong, and built Moxley into a formidable opponent for Okada. However, I still didn’t believe Moxley would win the tournament.

The tag matches were pretty good. The Bang Bang Gang never really looked in the hunt against FTR, whilst Mone surprising ate the pin against the Babes. Mone’s meltdown later on, was some pretty sharp work and I hope she maintains that standard in the future.

Allin v Kidd was, as we expected, a bloody, brutal, nasty mess. Just a couple of guys in their element, and still managing to stun the audience with some creative and painful spots. Allin should probably move on now from feuding with the Death Riders, and find some new enemies.

The interactions between the guys and gals in the Mixed Nuts Mayhem was exceptional, in a very well laid out match. Certainly a lot of memorable interactions and laugh out loud moments that the crowd really got into. Shafir and Storm need a singles match now to put a full stop on their feud, before moving on to other things.

The Death Riders had just lost back to back matches. Their reputation had taken a hit. Win or lose, there is no way they could make a move on Moxley from a position of weakness.

Moxley beat Okada in a match where it really stood out that both were battle weary after their night’s adventures, as it should have. We were really treated to a great final last year, but even though this match didn’t hit those heights, this felt more realistic, to just find a way to grind out a victory whilst not at their best.

No surprise MJF became champ. Someone had to have a successful cash in eventually, so it might as well be MJF. No shortage of challengers for the new champ in the new year. Feel bad for Joe for only getting a short reign, but it was done to protect Page and Strickland and their future title prospects.

A long wait for the next PPV, but there is a lot of promising stuff in the works in the short term, and with an extra belt in play, Fletcher and Takeshita will be hunting for gold, hopefully both away from the Callis family.
