No idea why it was announced so early. They have another week.

This squad seems highly dependent on groundskeepers being instructed to prepare IPL style roads. Which is certainly possible in India, though it is famously a land of contrasts(tm) in this regard. Sri Lanka on the other hand, where all of Australia's group matches are played, tends towards low scoring pitches. New Zealand defended 108 there in late 2024.

Who keeps if Inglis gets injured?
Cricinfo suggests Maxwell has been the designated backup before. Which is itself a problem, because he will probably need to bowl.

No real surprises in the squad.

Who keeps if Inglis gets injured?

Maxwell

I just don't understand Stoinis being in the team, surely we could move on from him
He had one amazing innings in New Zealand about 10 years ago and has lived off that since

I lost any respect for him when I watched our match against him this year.
I was amazed at what a bully he was. He dropped down dead while misfielding a ball from Overton's bat, then had the nerve to yell at Overton to not take the run, while still lying poleaxed on the ground! I've got no idea why Overtonn didn't laugh and tell him to get stuffed.

Then,........he suddenly recovered and was fine for the rest of the match.

Imo he was not faking an injury.

Looked like he got a stinger.

Irrelevant. What did you think of him instructing Overton?
Well you mentioned he dropped dead, so I was just replying. Don't mention it if you think it's irrelevant. ;)

I missed the Overton part. Probably posting on BF at the time as boring gane.

I reckon Khawaja won't announce anything

Will give the media and public donuts after the push for him to be dropped after Perth

If he feels he shouldnt be dropped and wants to keep playing international cricket why should he announce retirement. He is entitled to fight out his position until the selectors tell him he is done. After all its on the selectors.

Should he be dropped? Im always a firm believer of trying to find ways to usher in the next generation. Hayden, Langer, Martin are all classic examples of players given a go in their youth and they even had to come back multiple times to gradually cement a spot.

So im not against using Head as the base opener and we bring back and rotate in other fringe openers to see if one stands up Especially as we build towards next summer and the ashes. Renshaw imo is probably the one who is ready as a potential full time opener. Is patient, knows how to build an innings. He fits the profile of having worked on his game since he first came into the side. I dont think Konstas is ready. His game is sloppy and seems to be determined to score a run a ball. Hunt for mine is a smokey moving forward. Could be worth a shot.

Our next test isnt until August so the selection is probably going to come off those last few shield matches and those who go to England to play in the county grind.

If Khawaja was smart he would announce his retirement after this series, as likely to be sacked otherwise. Hopefully he has the awareness.

There will be no immediate sacking anyway if he chooses not to. Next test isnt until August. Be different if we had a SA tour in Feb coming up. Our prep moves to the world cup. So essentially he can just quietly retire if he has a poor shield and county season in the build up to the Bangladesh tour.

Goes out on his terms which is a better look...

6mm grass on SCG v 10mm for MCG.

Yeah, of course the SCG curator hasn't read a word on the 4th test lol.

Worth noting the SCG has copped a bit this year for being quite bowler friendly, so I do wonder whether he took a bit off prior to Boxing Day, and probably breathed a big sigh of relief that he did so.

Im so sick of Khawaja playing the race card. its not a racial stereotype if you are being a ****ing jackass with your training and prep. He isnt fit, you can see he has been in a good paddock. To claim its a racial stereotyype is bullshit. What because of Inzi? the dude wouldnt run because he was super fat and unfit? thats not racial thats an observation he was a fat lazy git.

Look if you want to claim racism at least be factual and try harder than Inzi

I have no doubt he's copped his share of discrimination in his time, but this is 100% not one of those times.

If youve got a bit of a dodgy back and youve got a Test match coming then I dont think playing 18 holes on a championship level golf course is a great idea. And who could forget him missing a Shield game to hang out in a Corporate Box at the F1. He invites the chat on him via his actions and then cries foul.

Hes never been known as a great fielder either, and for a guy who fields in the slips he drops more than his fair share of catches.

Plenty of white cricketers, indeed sports people in general have been slammed for their prep over time, SK Warne constantly was.

More to come…………… he’s just started

So a player who since making 232 v Sri Lanka in January has had scores of

36 , 27* , 0 , 6 , 47 , 15 , 16 , 2 , 23 ,14 , 2 , 82 ,40 , 29 and 0 has been subject to racial discrimination.

At 39 years old with no Test match until he is 3 months shy of 40 - and a 20 Test Match schedule until the end of 2027

Just after the golf thing the Poms were absolutely SLAMMED for getting on the gas at Noosa.

Duckett was ridiculed for his slurred speech in a video taken. Previously Mitch Marsh said "most of Australia hates me." If Khawaja had been the target of these criticisms would he have labelled them racism?

I think Khawaja is seeing racism even where there isn't any.
