We did in India last time we were there. Lyon, Kuhnemann and Murphy

Also in Bangladesh a few years ago: Lyon, Agar, O'Keefe

Not sure if we've ever done it in Australia?
Revisiting that India series now, and what's clear is that we'll definitely miss Khawaja. Played bloody well and can see why McDonald wanted him to stick around for the next tour.

Well we don't have a cryostasis pod to put him in for the next 9 months do we?

Mark Waugh's FC average was actually higher than Steve's, and he crafted some of the best innings of the 90s (Kingston '95, Port Elizabeth '97).

He had a better Test career than Khawaja (played more Tests, could bowl and was a legendary slip fielder), but he was still a big disappointment given his ceiling. His Test batting average is less than Khawaja's (despite batting at #4), and he got a duck every 11 innings, compared to Khawaja's 15.7.

I can only conclude that the extra concentration required in Tests, compared to FC and even ODIs (where he excelled), did him in.
Mark Waugh suffered from a condition that caused extreme drowsiness when he was nervous. That's why he asked to open in ODIs he was less nervous knowing when he'd be batting than dwelling on it during the innings.

This meant that he was a very poor starter. Hence the 11 ducks.

If you aren't joking, that's extremely interesting given Uzzie's presser where he said that opening was the worst because you cannot calm down at any point. He was super happy batting 5 because he could wake up, and worst case he would be in an hour or two into play, when he was opening he'd basically spend the first 5 hours of the day in test mode.

I'm not joking, it's the reason he always looked so lackadaisical when he came out to bat, he was half asleep.

I heard people address Mark Waugh as June on triple m a while ago, idiot me thought maybe because he was born in June 🤣
He and I are ten days apart. And in a massive almost inexplicable coincidence, so are his brother and I.

Abbreviated from 'Junior', but the Waugh twins share a birthday with Steve Smith. The most famous twins in Australian cricket and Steve Smith were born on the 2nd of June.

I got one of those (first ball of innings without facing) back in the day, but only refer to it as a diamond. It was obviously my opening partner's fault. Interested to know if it has a more specific label.

Yeah but a bit of mayo buys you a day if executed properly. Pinched nerve is my go to followed by a grimace
My back goes out more than I do.

Me too, mine was on my birthday.

Best birthday ever..

Where did you hear this?

(Assuming you're not joking.)

This seems to be the expected XI, from what I’ve pieced together from the media whispers. Personally, I don’t really see the point of playing Webster at 8 — you may as well have played Murphy or kept Jhye in.

Head
Weatherald
Labuschagne
Smith
Khawaja
Carey
Green
Webster
Neser
Starc
Boland

Good to see Pucovski's concussions haven't impacted his judgment on who he needs to white knight for to get ahead in the Australian cricket media landscape.

He will go far.
Almost as if he actually knows what he is talking about and you're biggest achievement is insulting him on an AFL forum despite never getting anywhere near the level he did.

You might go far.

Interesting that Green is continually picked with an eye for the future, but we don’t do the same for our spinners
Green averages 56 with the bat in a shield era that for the last decade has continued to produce atrocious pitches and guys that can't average 40. Almost like selectors aren't just backing your particular eye test and watch shield matches themselves. Insane how confidently people embarass themself on this sub.

In fairness his compulsive drowsiness post 100 was probably more attributable to his primary interest shifting from his innings to the next race at Rosehill.
