Call me crazy but wouldn’t the SCG pink test be the perfect place for the pink ball D/N test?
I actually thought that’s what they were going to do. Had to double check the starting time 😝

And perfectly timed for many corporate slaves headed back to the middle management mines on day 2. Honestly CA seem to be doing a perfect job of booking an all-time garbage schedule this year.
All the better to convince the public that privatising the BBL and shifting Test cricket out of prime scheduling is necessary.

Green averages 56 with the bat in a shield era that for the last decade has continued to produce atrocious pitches and guys that can't average 40. Almost like selectors aren't just backing your particular eye test and watch shield matches themselves. Insane how confidently people embarass themself on this sub.
Like how guys like Usman and Marnus go back and dominate the Shield while struggling in the test team. Almost as if they are the best guys available despite their test form.

I think that rule only applies to games that are actually only scheduled for 3 or 4 days. They don't reduce it on the fly.

So long as there is no play on day one, but only day one, the follow on target can be reduced to match one less day than originally scheduled..

14.1 Lead on first innings

14.1.1
In a two-innings match of 5 days or more, the side which bats first and leads by at least 200 runs shall have the option of requiring the other side to follow their innings.

14.1.2 The same option shall be available in two-innings matches of shorter duration with the minimum leads as follows:

- 150 runs in a match of 3 or 4 days;

- 100 runs in a 2-day match;

- 75 runs in a 1-day match.

14.2 Notification

A captain shall notify the opposing captain and the umpires of his/her intention to take up this option. Once notified, the decision cannot be changed.

14.3 First day’s play lost

If no play takes place on the first day of a match of more than one day’s duration, 14.1 shall apply in accordance with the number of days remaining from the start of play. The day on which play first commences shall count as a whole day for this purpose, irrespective of the time at which play starts.

Play will have taken place as soon as, after the call of Play, the first over has started. See Law 17.2 (Start of an over).

they showed the roller going over the pitch earlier on Sunrise. it looked very patchy with lots of tufts of green.
Pitch Pattern Baldness.

Shield form is not an automatic guarantee of test form. It’s a useful indicator but it’s still a big jump between the two.

For a good perspective on this, have a listen to Michael Bevan talking very honestly about how he underperformed in tests while racking up thousands of domestic runs:

At the same time Shield cricket was a very different beast in Bevan's era vs now.

It’s just another test match for points!

Steve Smith said The Ashes were done at 3-0 so this next test (5th Ashes) is just part of the test cycle. It’s the same as the coach has said.

The Ashes has been diminished, it’s gone from the biggest single sporting rivalry in the world, it goes back around 150 years, something that had tradition and mystique, to …. just another test match for points !!!!!
