It's time Usman

Slipped in katich lol

This thread is full of people who refuse to believe being Muslim could be an obstacle in an insular culture like Australian cricket, yet imagine Rogers faced discrimination for being quiet.

It’s actually full of people who believe being a Muslim could be an obstacle and has been an obstacle in Australian cricket for Usman, but also acknowledge that dozens of players have faced criticism over the years for similar things to what Khawaja has, like his golfing exploits for example, without it owing anything to their background.

Was looking at test averages today, seems wrong that Michael Clarke averaged under 50.

He was better than that
He was unlucky to not have finished with it in the 50s. Basically carried us for 4 years while the likes of Smith and Warner were developing. That 2012-13 period was as well as I’ve seen anyone played.

that's next level egomania
To watch the face of a child light up like a firecracker when I have merely written my signature on his or her little bat has always touched me. What I gave to him was so insignificant; yet the pleasure he received from that signature was akin to someone who had just won a million dollars. His amazing little face, beaming with gratitude, made me realise how powerful is the great gift of giving which is the core philosophy of The Hayden Way.

It's so ridiculous you could be forgiven for thinking it's parody.

Not sure there is a more bitter, sad man on the internet than little Ralphy.
Just realised that this campaigner has blocked me on Twitter even though I've never directly interacted with him. He is an absolute flog so I'm pretty pleased with myself TBH

Looking back at the last handful of Ashes series we’ve played in England, there’s usually a turnover of 5-6 different players from each XI between the 4 year gap of overseas Ashes.

With that in mind, I’d say it would look something like this:

1) Head
2) Renshaw
3) Labuschagne
4) Smith
5) McSweeney
6) Green
7) Carey (wk)
8) Cummins (c)
9) Murphy
10) Richardson
11) O’Neill
Labu is cooked.
Green needs to be replaced-by Webster or hardie or whoever you want.
And they wont pick Fergus (much as I would like them to) with the other bowling options we have.

Dizzy’s right on that point. But on the rest - so many dickheads rejoicing because that uppity brown guy they don’t like is gone.

When a great deal of social commentary is some form of “the players can now celebrate with a beer and pork bbq ribs”, uzzie is right to suggest there’s a fair few bigots out there piling on him because of his religion and cultural heritage.

He'll pop straight into the commentary box now so those clowns can enjoy listening to him for the rest of their lives

My FB feed is full of Indians having a crack at him. They really do not like Pakistanis (ethnic or citizens)

The other great bigoted shibboleth is the whole "this country gave you so much opportunity, we let you in, blah blah, how dare you voice your opinion". lol Uzzie has contributed more to this country than most of those mopes.

went from in the team, to scrapheap, to carving out a spot again despite concerns, and probably gently pushed toward that scrapheap.

retires with a very respectable avg of 43. good chance we'll think back fondly of his steady hand once he came back into the side. probably went on a touch too long but that's quite common really. as it stood, it was probably ok that he stuck around in the ashes with diddly squat ready to come in. he kept out a non-performing inglis, perhaps should have made way for webster, oh well.

I liked Khawaja throughout his career.. but that last speech sucked and lost my support.

I like Dizzy... but he's off point here. Ussie wasn't complaining about being criticised. He complained about the double standards. He pointed out that players commonly play a round of golf before a game, but he's the only one that got called out. If playing a round of golf before a match is considered "poor preparation", then why aren't the others being criticised as well? Didn't the coaching staff know? Didn't the fitness staff know? It's not like he was sneaking off.

It's like the stoush with Queensland Cricket last year. Usman is carrying an injury so he skips games. Physios know about it. Queensland coach knows about it. But the head of QC, Joe Dawes, comes out and claims he's picking and choosing which games to play and denies he's carrying any injuries. They don't even bother to confirm with Usman, they just take a dig at him in the media and essentially claim he's lying about his injury. Then there's a smear piece in the media because Usman goes to the Grand Prix while he's recovering from injury... because apparently you can't be recovering from injury if... you are in Melbourne?

Khawaja wouldn't have been criticized if he didn't get injured the 1st day of the Test, the other players weren't passengers through the said games.

Did you even re read this after posting?

So he played golf then missed a test with a golf related injury, I'll wait till you can name me somewhere else who's done that recently ....

Then he flew on a plane to the grand Prix to recover from an injury, hardly sounds like a priority to be rehabbing then, again plenty of examples of guys getting in shit for doing the same thing there that aren't ussie. So yeah. Being a bit of a sook and dizzy is spot on

Completely missing the point. This is basically saying that playing golf before a game is ok, as long as you don't get injured. By that token, if he was walking his dog, or playing with his kid and ended up with back spams the next day, that would be worthy of criticism. If playing golf is an unacceptable risk, it should be unacceptable for everyone. To the best of my knowledge, Ussie hasn't had a history of back issues. If the fitness staff thought it would be a problem and Ussie ignored their advice, then you could argue he was being irresponsible.

I was pretty frustrated when he couldn't bat. But when you hear him describe the situation, I completely understand how he feels singled out. Players have been playing golf before matches for years. No one cared, no one thought it was a risk. Then Usman gets back spasms the next day, and it's a sign that he isn't taking things seriously and is being unprofessional.

These are two unrelated issues. The Grand Prix issue happened in the previous season. Apparently if you are rehabbing you can't have a social life? This is a perfect example of the double standards. Players engage in social activities while rehabbing all the time. But Ussie cops the media because he's at the Grand Prix and is accused of being lazy and unprofessional. There's is zero evidence he wasn't doing his rehab.
