Yeah because every batsman loves facing pace bowling when they can barely see the ****en ball.

Yes that did help England and whos to say they wouldn't have lost quick wickets before lunch.

Going off was the right call, was unfair on the batsmen to face in those conditions.

lol there was an hour and a half of perfectly usable conditions yesterday: every live podcast and broadcast said exactly the same thing at 6pm - ‘there should be cricket being played as we speak and cricket cannot get out of its own way.’

Making out like they were ‘saved’ from some treachery yesterday when in all likelihood Root and Brook would have been perfectly happy to keep going is absurd

Yes. The very first ever test match had a night watchman.

Tom Garrett, opening bowler, and number nine came in at number 4 in the second innings to protect Bransby Cooper.

Although the term "night watchman" wasn't used until Douglas Jardine used it in the 1930s.

On another note from that first test match, Ned Gregory (for whom it was his only test) became the curator at the SCG and they asked him to build the scoreboard. He set the scoreboard up and had the word "for" between the wickets and the runs. However, he had the smaller side to the left so you couldn't fit 3 digits to the left of the word "for" so to overcome it, they put the wickets first and the runs second. So the scoreboard read "3 for 194" instead of 194 for 3.

This then translated to radio commentary when they would read out the score directly from the scoreboard.

This then spread to the rest of the country, so Ned Gregory is the reason Australia use the wickets for runs format in cricket scores in reverse of the rest of the world. And why the rest of the world is wrong.
This is the kind of stupid shit that in any other sport, I'd have no chance of believing you. With test cricket, I absolutely believe it.

Remind me why we have to bat in the dark but not England?
Because we don't behave like petulant children and throw a tanty when a naughty bad cloud comes along. We also don't beg for a ball change every 14 balls.

It's sport, men can cry and pat each other bum, and nobody calls them gay.
So why is there such an outcry when do gooders spot AFL players patting or squeezing team-mates arses when in the huddle or after a match singing of song.

Can you show me where they complained about the light yesterday. Thanks. By the way - didn’t Marnus complaining about the light actually lead to today’s confrontation?

And yes, Australia asks to change the ball all the time. All teams do. Including mine.

It's true I used to read every single test cricket almanac history book and biography I could get my hands on. Became a bit of a historian where cricket is concerned.

Also Ned Gregory was the first ever duck in test cricket.

Stop saying 'lol' you're not 12 I'm quite sure, and it really diminishes even your best anti Australian arguments no matter how tedious they're every summer.

What a shock it will be to no doubt to see the thug hero stokes get the wet lettuce leaf treatment because he's the "King of England" 🥴. And the sycophantic media will go silent and fall in line as usual. If Warner or any former Aussie did that we all well know the bleating siren call about the ugly Australian and spirit of cricket and bad look for the kids articles would be flowing as often as a Root glide down to third man. Not to mention the sanctimonious supporters who can contort themselves with double standards - see ball tampering.

And using ‘they’re’ in the wrong context while trying to talk down to someone about their command of language and grammar doesn’t do a lot for your stance either does it, unless you’re (haha) trying to invent a new contraction of they are that no one has thought to use previously so maybe go have a quiet word with yourself

Australia's day. Super bowling performance to start the morning. Persistence and patience backed up with good fielding. 8-180-odd today put us in the driver's seat when at the start of the day England could have ensured we could not win.

Root was very classy for them. Brook, like in Perth, played a very overrated innings. This time it happened to work. Stokes copping the DRS was gold and is more evidence why you pick the best keeper. Starc should buy Carey a beer for that one.

Weatherald has shown us he is not up to it. I doubt he will get a serious chance at a long innings in a last-innings chase, and his papers should be stamped.

Labuschagne, well, 48 is a "what could have been?" score but I am not going to hold a score of 48 against him. He really should not be in trouble for his spot.

Head has his eye in this series, in a major way. Another nice one by him and if he can tick over the required runs for a century tomorrow he should have player of the series locked up.

And a very good day for Neser. 4 with the ball and did his job diligently as nightwatchman. I doubt that hit to the arm would have caused much damage.

We should be targeting a score of 500+ from here, and maybe even aiming to not bat again. England's ragged bowling and disgraceful fielding should gift us another 60+ runs. I remain staggered at how poor their groundwork is, let alone their catching.

The poms are in disarray.

They came here to beat up on us with a 'superior team and strategy', lost the Ashes in 11 days flat, displayed their professionalism by going on a bender in Noosa, and now their captain is having onfield meltdowns.

Life is good.

The issue with Stokes putting his arm around Labs was that it looked strange, at least to me.
The arm around wasn't that big of an issue, it was the little push at the end that was very poor

They're is a contraction of they are.

Which is the correct context for his use of the word.

Nice edit by the way. :)

Oh I thought you were talking about when they first went off before the storm hit?

Cause that was the right call for Englands sake

What exactly is the benefit of Smith going out there now?
WTF do you think the concept of Nightwatchman is about?

I mean seriously, it’s a strategy that’s 100 years old!

It’s not a reflection on Smith, it's a strategy designed to avoid losing an important wicket for zero result.

For chrissakes, grow up! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Oh, then its like Warne grabbed Samuels or Kohli running into Konstas areas.

Agree - it was mock ‘Street intimidation’ - Bouncer walks ip to a punter, puts his arm around him, whispers a few chosen words - the threat is I’ll put you in a headlock and punch your face in - seen it done many times.

Luckily Marcus knew he wouldn’t follow through - so laughed at him - but an ugly look from a yobbish cricketer.

Stokes is too caught up in his own machismo. And he can’t control his temper.

I’m familiar with what it’s a contraction of. It just doesnt…. Really exist in the spoken language in this context, does it.

‘No matter how tedious ‘they’re’ being’ would make sense.

Used to a sentence or sentiment, it makes none.

At any rate it was indeed a superb edit on my part and probably a smart one

Look, I know you are never wrong, and can't handle being challenged without turning it into an argument.

But........go back to what he wrote, replace "they're" with "they are" and ask yourself if it makes sense.

I'll leave it that.
