I think it is time for head .

Think it was Bill Lawry who would always bang on about how arbitary that milestone was. As in 99 is a failure. But guess that's just the game
John Benaud made 99 v the Rest of the World in 71-72 and it was speculated that it was the reason he wasn't selected for the England tour in 72.

Most of those weren't last year

Do they need to be?

Head is going to - rightly - be lauded as one of the best openers going around. He’s made one away century in his entire career, and his fourth innings century came chasing 200, not almost 400 on the last day of the match. I’d have thought that innings alone plus the rest of his year would be enough to reinforce that he’s a decent batsman, if the few years before didn’t already show it.

Depends.

Regardless of what’s in the surface, smacking 149 off 170 to chase down 370 on the last day against Bumrah, Siraj and Jadeja isn’t exactly ‘a sorry excuse for a test bat’ Is it.

Neither is 114 out of 291 on a Pakistan turner where, after the Pakistan opener and #4 on day 1, only one other batsman passes 34 for the entire match.

His 153 against Bumrah, Siraj, Kuldeep, Ashwin and Jadeja would sit where, exactly if IT was played by an Australian opener in India?

He smacked 92 off 112 off Southee and Henry at the Bay Oval last year when England were rolled for 280 in 50 overs and NZ was in 34 overs for 120.

He’s had plenty of decent contributions along the way. Hes not about to be put alongside Greenidge and Haynes and Langer and Hayden etc but making out like he can’t play is pretty stupid.
He’s not test quality.

He’s played 80 innings and you’ve listed 4, one of which the match had 1673/35 in it.

Despite that 153 in India he averages 27.

Context matters. Prior to this series England played on 5 roads and a challenging pitch at Lord's, Australia played on 2 flat pitches in SL while the rest where challenging pitches
England only ever make runs on roads because they’re crap and only get wickets because they’re lucky and always play minnows on postage stamps, and Australia excel everywhere except where the pitch is crap and DRS is biased against them and Joel Wilson is umpiring.

They’re knocking this deficit down without too much effort.

Poor bowling hasn’t helped the cause.

When you're looking at the amount of runs a person has scored then context absolutely matters.

Not sure why you think the poster was playing games?

Ok.

Head’s hit one away century and his away average is the same as Crawley’s career average.

He’s shit and not test quality.

Actually no that’s a lie.

He’s hit no away centuries.

He’s hit 11 home centuries and a neutral one.
