That's the thing, if there was any sort of consistency in their argument you could have a proper discussion about it.

You just know if the LNP had done it and the first organisation to disband was an extremist Islamic one (like Hizb ut-Tahrir that has been specifically named as a target) they'd have been cheering it on. It's not about the laws, it's about who guys like FBI and 10571z can abuse in society. What they really wanted was to punch down on Muslims and leave the White Nationalists alone. Compulsory voting and the preferential system of counting votes almost guarantees a slightly right of centre or left of centre Government unlike FPTP voting.

The ALP hold 94 seats. the Coalition hold 42 seats, independents 10 seats, minor parties 9 seats and one nation one seat.

Remember, Government is not formed from the Senate, but from the House. How is One Nation going to gain another 78 seats to govern in their own right?

As it stands now, they would have to take all the Coalition seats, all the cross benches and minors and take 16 seats from Labor to govern in their own right

But don't worry, with Barnaby changing allegiances, Hanson has had a pay rise

Rushing through increased penalties and powers is never good for the general public

Hate speech will be whatever the government says it is, they're lowering thresholds so they can broaden the definition

They want to be able to designate groups as hate groups so they can then arrest and jail members

NSN disbanding will be pointed to as this working

Then they'll go and start locking up the people they're actually worried about

You know, people that criricise Israel

They could go after climate change groups they could go after Indigenous people that organise invasion day rallies

It opens the door to very nasty stuff and it doesn't have to be this government exploiting it, once it's there it's ready for when someone does want to exploit it

As Gralin said, the devil will be in the detail given there's some fairly vague definitions of 'hate' being used. It's a balance between having sufficient laws that people like Sewell can't do what they do without penalty, and not having avenues for overly 'enthusiastic' government suppression of fair and reasonable free speech and discussion.

tony abbott would be a valuable member and support. He has called for tough treatment for protesters. He has spent recent time advising right wing gov'ts in europe so his input would be valuable regarding "settling things down". Dutton supported the withdrawal of funding to UNRWA and has stated publicly that he wouldnt support the arrest of netty. Unfortunately, he has stated that he's too old for politics.
