Dan Gorringe. Failed GC top 10 pick and Carlton player.
Now has the most popular AFL podcast and a large tiktok/instagram following.
He would have been invited down to make some content for his accounts. The gag will be he dressed as a player to pretend he could still pass as an AFL player.
Thanks

He is like the Rex Hunt of the90s in this era. if you are over 50 you will know who I am talking about.Pretty outrageous comments and never knows when to shut up.
brings back memories, remember when Rex was introduced to the broadcast one time by Shane Healy and immediately went on a 10 minute rant about a cop that gave him a ticket or a parking inspector, cant remember which"YOU THINK YOU GOT A BIG FISH"was the line he bellowed out several times, when he finally stopped healy hit him with some common sence thing like he was only doing his job,or if you werent speeding/parked in wrong place you wouldnt have got the ticket,he proceeded to repeat the rant

saw him once in one of the little tab's out at waverley,he made some comment about the price of a pie or chips or something, noone reacted,he used to claim to be a saints fan,but he dumped us fast when alves got the sack,i think rex was all about rex,but definately got a few laughs out of him, listening to a carlton match especially"THE CRANIUM PASSES IT TO THE GOLF BALL,LONG KICK TO KOUTAFIDAMEDES,PASSES INTO THE FORWARD LINE,SNAP AT GOAL FROM THE PACK DELUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLIO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL"

There are probably 9 teams who are better than us at our absolute best...

Lions
Crows
Hawks
Suns
Giants
Dockers
Cats
Bulldogs
Swans

...but the big question is:

Are there eight teams who can be better than us for more games than we can be this season?

There will be injuries, which of the clubs above us will be the worst affected?

I think we should expect to finish in the top 8 and play finals directly. I think that's realistic, but there's not much margin for error, I hope the boys realise that this season.

It's how much we have improved from bringing in players and having natural internal progression that can't be answered until we see them play competitive matches.

We had issues across every line last season. Losing Battle and Howard in the same year bit hard into our best line but we have trained a Howard understudy in Hammer and replaced Battle with JSOS. Tauru, LOC, Carrol etc all in line to come in for Webster. Nas up the field offers scope to bring in a rebounders which we have plenty of options for as well.

Midfield should improve from additions. Mostly from TDK and Flanders who give us first use more often and fill a hole that we needed filled. Flanders pretty much directly replaces Steele who has battled for a couple of seasons. Hugo, Phillipou, Boxshall, Hall and Nas all additions to what should be a pretty exciting centre set up. Wings are stacked with depth and talent- Windy, Henry, Wood, Hill etc.

Forwards have added Ryan but also get Butler back, Marshall gives us the option of a floating tall while Dodson, Keeler and King could all jump up and play as a power forward. It also allows Sharman and Owens more room to move and Phillipou could spend a bit more time inside F50.

On paper we look really deep and high quality. If that translates on field it makes a huge difference.

training report 28/1/2026 New
Normal transmission resumed after all those interlopers on Australia Day.
Tauru heavily strapped right knee, in red top, running laps with Higgo who is in blue. Hopefully only a minor nick.
Clark and King in rehab. Two in red going to the wellness centre I didnt see who.
Higgo in rehab but in blue, a corkie. Clark heavy strapping on left knee, Doog joins the rehab group.
Main group repeat run throughs.
Tauru not hampered in running but only in straight lines.
Henry, Collard, Fincher and no.41 whoever that is, seperate group, all now peel off to the main group.
Tauru up to the rooms. Doogs and Max doing run throughs, Clark laps, Higgo, standing about chatting to a trainer.
Tauru back, a bit of a limp but think it is the strapping restricting him.
3 groups doing 1/3 field ball work. High intensity.
Watching the group with TDK, Trav, Armstrong, Hastie, Carroll, Dodson, Dow, Flanders, Barrett.Trav impressive.
Quick swap between tops and bibs.
Armstrong a tad sloppy.
To make training even more difficult not just blue tops with white numbers, but they are pumping out a MMM 90's playlist. Do zoomers really listen to Guns and Roses?
Ok two groups near side midfield, Roh v TDK. No throat punches Roh he is our side now.
Sincs,Hugo, Pou and Said back from the pool.
TDK taller than Roh. Flanders great hands in close.
Naz and Henry with the mids, Carroll there but off the back of the square, like a hbf.
Hall outhunts Flanders for a rolling ground ball.
Coaches taking this, Boris, bj, Harvs. They know a bit about it.
Ronnie off a hb, no ruck contests, rolling balls mainly to hb to start the drill.
As soon as the contest breaks down the coach stop it and resets.
Not bad, pressure high, a few wayward disposals.
Bit of a break so went and got a coffee while groovin to Pump up the Jams.
20 minute half field transition and positioning. Again if it breaks down the coaches reset.
Sloppy from Wilks OOF from a kick in.
JSOS on Owens, TDK dominating in the ruck. Wilks drops a sitter, Ryan pounces for a goal. TDK beats Roh this time in field positioning.
Hammer in defence on Coops.Lots of stopping and positioning.
TDK v Keeler, takes out of the contest to a flying NAZ, moist.
Now Sat n Peppa, Push it real good baby, FFS.
TDK beating Roh. Now Roh v Keels. JSOS looks nice down back. Good positioning, nice size.
The boys are looking Fergilicous, oops sorry, this ****en playlist is doing my head in.
Hall to Flanders who steadies, recognises the mismatch between TDK and Said who gives away the free.
I call this as I see it. TDK smashing Roh in the ruck.
One on one contests now. LOC going well, good contest between Keels and Hammer. This music is atrocious.
Wilson and Hall a bit of a mismatch, Hall halves it.
TDK, Dow and Silvagni walking the boundary, need Stocker, Carroll and Hammer to get the Bloos set. Must feel sentimental in the light Blue.
12 minute session Forwards, Mids, Backs. I'll watch the mids. Keels with the forwards.
No ruck contests, mids reading off the rucks hands.
Starters for me in the mids, TDK, NAZ, Windy, Flanders. Havent seen Macrae today. Where to fit Pou?
BTW apparently we built this city on rock and roll. Who is responsible for this playlist?
Over to the backline, 3 groups, one on ones with the ball coming into the fifty.
Dylan Shiel is a good looking rooster. Looks good in Saints gear.
Far side skills training, receiving the ball kicking into the 50 to a lead. All pretty tidy
Who impressed today? TDK, JSOS, Flanders, Hall, Henry looked as zippy as I have seen for two seasons, Trav and Wilson looked good in patches, LOC tidy. Ryan is class in front of goal. Hard to tell the rest, the blue tops with white numbers are terrible, almost as bad as the music, EVERYBODY DANCE NOW. Holy hell, I am almost dead and this stuff was around in my 20's ans 30's. Has no music been recorded since 2005? Lets get Physical now, ok, they have won.
Anyway, got the horn for the 4 recruits, all walk into the 23.

The old Master just returned from training ,here are few observations
Howard,King Clarke,Dodson not with main group and either running laps or stretching.
Garcia and Higgins in gym.
27 degrees with most action at South round end with a bit of breeze affecting kicking.
Seems to be a skills session mostly finishing up with all involved in a one on one f50 press.
Marshall v TDk (all boundary throw ins ) won most taps with physicality and front position.
The spread of both sides really good to open space and move ball.
Tauru with bandaged left knee is a huge bloke.
jSos played the Wilkie role of gate keeper, maybe a positional change for Wilkes?
I don’t think Howard will be playing Round 0.
More later or hit me up with any questions

Thanks for the excellent report much appreciated as always.

That’s a hell of decent team on paper.

You know you’re going alright when you’ve got an interchange bench of Marshall, Wilson, Sharman, Windy and Garcia.

And have Henry, Clark, Butler, Carroll, Howard, Keeler, LOC, Byrnes, Boxshall, Trav, Collard, Dodson up your sleeve.

So presumably the tunes are to drown out the tactical chat...or to just get used to the music after goals at the real stuff? lol ?
Yeah, lots of coach intervention so maybe that is a reason. But they can at least play something decent

Yes, but then it wouldn't distract you as much !!

Sorry, still laughing at Fergilicious...... :laughv1:

100% agree with your observations. We absolutely should improve.

My only reservation is we are coming from a long way back. We won 9 games for the season, with 4 of those in the last 5 games. So that's 5 wins from the first 18 games. Not great - and 3 of those last 4 wins in the season were unimpressive, just scraping over the line against North , Richmond and Essendon, all of which we should have won by 20+ if our depth was as good as we seem think it is. Plus we were the only team to lose to WC. Are we overrating our depth because we are comparing it to the VFL standard depth we've been carrying for the past 10 years?

It's hard to quantify the improvement but i'll have a crack. Im hoping our backline leaks 2 goals a game less, our midfield contributes to an extra goal per game, and our forward structure gives us an extra goal a game. A fit King will be a big improvement. He alone is worth an extra goal per game. So that's maybe 4-5 goals a game net differential improvement assuming we keep most our best 25 fit. . I don't know how many extra wins that gives us but it still doesn't quite feel like top 6. Maybe just outside the top 6.
But as we know better than most, confidence and belief is a funny thing - snag a few early wins in a row and who knows.

TSK, JSOS, Flanders, Hall, Henry looked as zippy as I have seen for two seasons, Trav and Wilson looked good in patches, LOC tidy.
All she wrote.
Adios Amigos.

Not sure we are coming back from as far as you think.

Last year, at 3/4 or at some point in the last quarter we were either within 15 points or were leading and lost the following games:

  1. Carlton - Down by 14 at 3/4 got it down to 3 points midway through the last. Lost by 15 points
  2. West Coast - 15 points down 7 minutes into the last quarter. Lost by 28 points
  3. GC - 13 points down 1 minute into the last quarter. Lost by 19 points
  4. Collingwood - 7 minutes into the last quarter it was a 10 point ball game. Lost by 34
  5. Fremantle - we Led by 14 points 1 minute into the last quarter. Lost by 12
  6. Sydney - we led by 13 points 4 minutes into the last quarter. Lost by 5 points
  7. GWS - Led by 10 points 11 minutes into the last quarter. lost by 11 points.
That's a third of the season that was roughly winnable in the last quarter. From here you're expecting the recruitment and growth to turn these results our way.

Only team to lose to WCE
That was our rock bottom.
Shouldn't be ever mentioned again

Been watching a few complilation vids from a cross the season and a few of these games popped up. I forgot how close some of these games actually were. Those Sydney and GWS games were really down to the wire... Gulden on the end of a perfect tap from Grundy and Greene going back with the flight of the ball both in the dying minutes.
