Sure, that's one side of the coin.
The other side of the coin is that the reason these athletes are paid so much more than the average wage is specifically because of the significant public interest in the sport, which in turn brings advertising revenue, etc etc etc...
TLDR don't become a professional athlete if you aren't willing to be at least somewhat available to the fans/public.
It's the widely accepted and taught position in professional sports, mate.

Let me simplify it for you; the reason these athletes get paid so much is because of the fans. Be nice to the fans. That doesn't mean you have to be a robot available for them 24/7. Just don't be a dick.
