Training Saints preseason 2026

Fagan's comments can probably be attributed to the fact that (rightfully) the two time defending premiers who just added two high profile free agents themselves are probably facing a salary crunch in the near future.

But if that isn't on the bulletin board at RSEA Park before we play them, then I don't know anything.

That strategy may not work. If Dodson gets an offer from say qld, or any club that need s a ruckman and offers 4 years at eg 500k we might be in trouble

Sure but i'd think clubs that go around offering those sorts of deals to ruckmen with 2 hitouts at AFL level, might end up in serious trouble.

He's salty because it sets a new benchmark for how high the best players get paid.
It puts a lot of pressure on clubs trying to keep their best players.
Brisbane would already be paying the maximum salary cap.
They should, they're the best team with the most talent.

I sneaky suspect a cliff for them this year. Lots of stuff going on behind the scenes.

extraordinary comments from a coach, let alone the premiership coach.

"I think the best players in the competition deserve to be paid the most money and that's not the case at the moment.

"That's not an insult to Nasiah. I think he's going to be a really good player and how far he goes I don't know.

"And 'TDK' has shown a lot of promise for a long time but hasn't probably played up to expectations, and they're getting paid extremely well.

"I'd rather see the better players get all the big money."

1. Nas is clearly one of the better players in the league, if not the best.
2. We would love the luxury of the best academy & f/s kids and getting players like Draper, Allen, Dunkley for unders or at most market value.
Exactly. ***k off Fagan. Sitting at the head of your comfy list being topped up with the best young talent by F/s and gifted academy picks. What a nerve to be critical of us wanting to be the best we can be and how we go about it. Now I really hate him.

True, but its bloody ignorant having a go at a club like ours, when he would know full well the issues we have had attracting decent talent. Its even more short sighted given the father sons, free agents and other trade win falls Brisbane have had over time.

I used to like Fagan but after those comments he can GAGF now!

The positives are that Brisbane are obviously feeling the cap pressure and there is a good chance they will lose Bailey, possibly even to the Saints.

I wonder how he thinks clubs in the bottom third should attract players from other clubs?

And the comment on NAS like he's just a random emerging talent.

He's already a top 5 player, could be the best in the league by years end.

Remember we offered an 20yo Draper when at Essendon a 400k deal and he was recovering from an ACL .!Don’t think he had played an AFL game either !

How tone deaf from the garden gnome gimp.
Fed a never ending supply of academy and father sons and has the gall to shoot his fetid little mouth off like that.
Meanwhile his players are busy rooting each other’s partners and/or each other in a Vegas human-centipede orgy ffs.
Fagan made the mistake of telling his team that the Saints were rooting the salary cap.

All we have done is show ALL players what they can be paid. You don’t need to accept whatever is offered anymore, the league - courtesy of the AFL, is now big enough for players to shop themselves around and get the most money on offer.

If anyone actually complains about that, they are doing it from a self serving point of view that it makes their clubs job harder. It doesn’t actually put any club in the competition at a disadvantage like academies and father sons do.

Well that’s that then.

We shouldn’t have paid out to make our team better. What were we thinking?

According to today’s Hun, Dan McStay looking pretty doubtful for OR, as he is “still troubled by a hamstring injury he sustained midway through January”. He reportedly only trained indoors yesterday and is “still at least two weeks away from full training”.

While “A number of McStay’s fellow Collingwood pillars also remain on heavy training restrictions, with just a fortnight remaining until practice matches begin”

Moore, Howe and Maynard were all restricted to just running drills yesterday. With Howe “one of the first to move inside as further ball drills took place”.

So McStay and Membrey are their only recognised tall marking targets up forward and McStay will either be missing or highly underdone, while down back, their main tall options are Moore, Frampton and Howe, so they could be extremely vulnerable in the air at both ends of the ground when we play them.

Odds for OR: Them $1.71, us $2.15

Interesting that they are 10th in the betting to finish top 6. Was surprised at that.

"I think the best players in the competition deserve to be paid the most money and that's not the case at the moment."
The reason for that is that all clubs have to pay the same cap regardless of the quality of the list, so the bottom side is paying their players the same as the premiers.

This is an extraordinary comment coming from an opposition coach. There is an unwritten rule you don’t comment in other clubs.Reading between the lines here,it looks as if we have made an offer or enquiries into one of their playersand it has hit a nerve, just me speculating though.
Whilst in this point, given SOS record of recruiting Carlton players ,you would think he is chatting to Sam Walsh would you?
