I had a horrendous thought. Do a Sheedy, move backs forward and forwards back. Then I realised we have no backs and our forwards would just be minced. 😵‍💫

Buller is.. wow
Very impressive. He’s not fighting for a third tall. Hes locked to play a KPP
I think you right the club recruited him to be 1st or 2nd KPF from day 1 and with the way McStay is either injured or awaiting his next injury ( sorry but that how it seems for him) it cannot come soon enough.

We do need Membrey to stay healthy he is almost the most important player we have upfront.

Lippa and roan to occupy the wings- with lippa to drift forward where he kicked multiple goals

No wing time for crisp- purely inside mid

Valid point. Jen reminded us that players we have recruited were done so on the basis they’d be first 23.

Frampton is good again, right? I assume they’re still holding Reef back from match sim?
Correct. Reef does a lot but clearly with ACLs there is a step by step process
Does everything but match sim

Yeah Frampton looks alright

Just caught training. Two quarters of match sim at the end. 1sts vs 2nds, as is often the case.

West played both quarters for the 1sts, which I found interesting. Seems like he has first dibs if / whilst McStay builds fitness.

Harrison and Hayes the other two that earned 1sts guerneys, but only for a quarter each. Beau on sidelines for 2nds, and crisp played the full game for the 2nds.

Will repeat that defence of the new style (lions influenced) is a key focus in all of the training sessions - which may be missed at first glance. As they obviously know that defending their type of run and carry system is just as important, if not more, than learning to implement it in offence.

Looked good in patches, but also came unstuck at times, down to some growing pains mixed with some good / intense defending.

Few player notes….

Prindable - played well again. Wing. Tough going against the first team, so any wins for the 2nds should be lauded imo. I had him going at 100% DE, so can see him featuring sooner rather than later. Caught Cameron for a HTB and delivered long to an open target. Then collected a JDG miss, and set up a goal. Also set up another goal, whilst good hands in close generated a couple of clearances that caught the eye. All v impressive. Like… a lot

Swadling - showing confidence again. Was v busy in the short practice drills and also off half back in the sim. Got caught trying to do too much at one stage, but didn’t go into his shell. Loves to get th ball and run. Keeper

Saxena - showing signs again. V similar to Bobby in stature and style. 2nd most immature body out there though, so will need time. Showed lovely disposal by foot today, kicking to teammates under pressure. Also got rag dolled a little bit, so will be given time imo. Hayes and Harrison ahead of him still, but showing great signs with his run and nous.

West - mostly played as the foil for Membrey and Buller for the 1’s. Didn’t see much action as a result. Still learning his place in the first team structure.

Buller - good. Ran well, active, up the ground and in the pockets. Slotted a couple, missed another. Kicking not as good as his predecessor, but v mobile and switched on.

Hayes - kicked a nice goals on the run and is linking up well. Won’t look too out of place when he gets a call up.

Nick - everywhere.

Josh - played off half back and midfield again. Showed great reading of the play down back - and aerial game well above his size. Has his brother covered here. Had a few interceptions that propelled the first team into attack.

Pendles - looked good. Busy and involved. Decision making so good.

Houston - got involved and kicked beautifully to targets. More in his familiar position, so hoping that stays and he keeps progressing.

Ryan - better. Read play well at times, kicked well - though still short, and almost took a v nice pack mark. Hopefully gains a bit more confidence from that.

Allan - don’t impact much in the middle, but is being given th chance to prove himself. Had one nice run and carry, but would like to see more.

Elliott - played v well. In th best. Kicked at least 3 goals, including one from an interception. Busy and looking primed.

Steele - roan. In th 1’s, and getting involved. Obv provides great run and could hold down a v important position to allow more seasoned players time to run through the midfield.

TJ - looks recovered from ankle and taking kick outs. Busy, but slow disposal / looping ball drop still bothers me. Still fringe at this stage.

Howe - did well, often tasked with defending Cameron on a lead. Bit bulkier this year. Tiny bit.

And as always apologies for any typos as doing this all on mobile phone in between work

Reckon we are getting closer to working out our preferred 23 for opening round
Moore and McStay the main 2 queries.

You'd reckon if Dan's not fit, West, Membrey, Buller are the tall forwards.

If the skip isn't fit, Cochran?
cochran went for scans today, so something has happened. Hopefully nothing serious.

Saints ‘tall’ forwards are likely to be Owens and Sharman - both around the 190cm mark

If TDK overcomes his injury, him and Marshall will rotate forward

Frampton can take the resting ruck and probably Howe and Maynard could take the other 2 if Moore doesn’t get up

Buller looks good and plays Opening Round but his opponents today looked like Ryan and Jiath so don’t get too excited

Doesn't matter who he's opponents are. He's been good all preseason and was always slated to play, its why they traded him in.
