MCG game 2026

What happened to you man. You used to be like Johnny Utah riding big waves. Smoking big caves. Now you won't even watch the Super Bowl live. Gonna have to chat with Peyton about this.
what happened to me? ... it's the putrid experience of an nfl field on the mcg. youd pay top dollar for that? somewhere deep in the stratosphere, needing binoculars, no real nfl-like crowd of home foeld advantage, tailgates, and fans dressing up in team-relatedncostumes and face-paint. instead youd have to look at the big screen at the stadium to see whats going on....so youd be better off at home watching it on 7maaaaaaaate ... thats what hapeneed to me!

I agree. **** the MCG.

When the soccer came in 2015 I thought it was shit. I've been to games in Europe for club, champions league and euros. As well as Copa America in 2016. Nothing compares unless it's the world cup. So watching Real vs Man City didn't do it for me in 2015 even though Ronaldo was playing. I saw his first ever match at a major tournament for Portugal. Seen him in the final. Went to all 3 games in that 2015 series at the G the main one had over 90,000 people but it was average as ****.

You forgot the early start time.

For the costs (dont think it will cheap i think decent ticket $500+) you better off watching it at home. Plus to be honest who wants to put up with a heap of obnoxious americans fans + Casual Victorian fans.

That's because soccer is pretty boring at the best of times let alone a friendly with nothing riding on it. I saw Greece v Australia at the G in 2004(?) atmosphere was good for about 20 minutes then what a snoozefest.

Good luck with looking at screens...MCG screens are about 330 square metres each....NFL stadiums regularly sport 2,000 metre screens.

Never mind, most of the crowd won't know what happened to even think to see a replay.

What so people close their eyes when AFL football has the play going through the middle of the ground at the G?? Let’s not bother watching Boxing Day test! Ridiculous

Or when the ball is on the other side of the ground. People love to exaggerate how bad things are.

There are subsequent games in following years?

Best wait till the novelty wears a bit. I was in UK while a game was on at Tottenham ground and got a (single) ticket the week before from memory it was about a hundred pounds

They’re called arm chair fans. They actually don’t go to any live sport & are non the wiser abt the experience of it. All good, just means less tickets to compete with.

Worst news ever. Melbourne AFL Grand Final is insufferable for all the one day a year fans who get to go. This will be new level.
Us Victorians would clammer to the opening of an envelope just to say we were there. Which I fear will make ticket demand and prices too high.

Not to mention seats with good sight lines. Soccer and footy are OK to watch at the G because they're free-er flowing and easy to follow the play. Cricket is OK because the layout of the game makes it easy.
Most NFL stadiums are purpose built for that game, and more vertical than ours.

The trench warfare in a compressed space makes it harder to follow from a distance, at least that was my experience from the 1999 pre season game. Ended up watching the big screen more than the field.
That's the internal debate I'm facing even if Jerry Rice is saying he'll be there

Difference is there is no full sideline of bench players and coaches in the way for afl or cricket. 2nd level or above is must for tickets.
NFL field is just over 48 metres wide and mcg centre square is 50 metres wide.
The picture below is how field will look size wise.

Probably not but I assume there will be events and things for the public on the days leading up.

And the whole world will be watching.

This an American sport and the nfl, any events or things won’t be free and cost huge $.

Im assuming that decent seats will be in the $500 range
I have heard from someone in the know that tickets will likely start at around $650 and go up from there.

That is ridiculous, lets be honest.

I want to see the Jarryd Hayne jersies out in force.

And Goodell to reference him in a presser about how he paved the way for the game in Australia.

My brother and I both celebrate decade landmark birthdays this year. Plan is US NFL/golf adventure taking in one home and one away 49er game. Our budget might be less than going to the Melbourne game.

Can he get day release for the game?

But yeah there will be a stack of Hayne jerseys. and if anyone sees one its their duty as a fan to bully them.

it's going to look really bad on tv as well.
the camera points are going to be zoomed in on the width of the field.
normally that framing takes in sections of the crowd, but at the MCG it'll be empty grass.
no atmosphere on tv either
