Aren’t they Australians? Didn’t know they were Israelis.
I never paid much attention to Israel or some of the Middle East stuff until the Oct 7 attacks and I'm so shocked by the Jewish = Israeli stuff and how the little separation of church and state is weaponised. Really eye opening.

i mean that's part of the issue right

You've got our PM saying its because the Jewish people wanted it and conflating being Jewish with supporting Herzog and Israel

which, again, leads to antisemitism and is Albo being like don't blame me

Sarah Schwartz, one of the leaders of JCA, in the article I linked earlier that got deleted for some reason, said exactly this and how offended she and many other Jews are by it.

Albanese has no choice. None. Even if this was a Liberal PM, have no choice to accept the eagerness to accept Herzog in.
Why do you think Herzog wanted to? Propaganda. Upscoring. Using the Bondi Attack to spread hate and BS.

Israel’s roots are deeply imbedded all over the Western world. Play along
Well, his “propaganda” is clearly not working on you, you’ve got your own to fall back on.

How eager you are to ascribe evil motives to Herzog’s visit. He’s not speaking to anyone much outside of the Jewish community, whom he came to support. What has he said that promotes “hate and BS”? It’s people like you doing that. Don’t you have a shred of sympathy for the victims of this horrific event and their need for support and comfort of their own people? When clearly you aren’t prepared to give any.

Wow, and you resisted the temptation to say “tentacles”, well done 🙄. Nearly as bad though.

If Albo thinks a two state solution is still an option, he must have two dicks to pull himself that stupid.
The Dogs of War and their minion members want to destroy the UN. Then the spoils will be theirs.

Does somebody want to tell Albo and the Jewish community that the Governor General is the Head of State of Australian people and inviting some other head of state of some other country here is actually not appropriate while that state is committing genocide.

By equating all Jews with the state of Israel, they're implying all Jews are responsible for the genocide of Palestinians and putting a target on Jewish people's backs.

The Government most to blame for Bondi is the Israeli Govt for conflating committing genocide with Judaism.

I worry that it's worse than that.

He gets led by those in a position of power or influence, then obstinately digs his heels in once a poor decision has been made.

There are probably three things that would have guaranteed his legacy as the most competent and maybe long lasting contemporary PM. Being more strategic with the Voice. Acting to tackle housing affordability, reform is absolutely possible. Victoria is showing that even meagre tinkering can have a positive effect. Finally not bottling it with regards to Israel. They shouldn't have invited Herzog, the Royal Commission is fine, but the current hate speech laws are too expansive and give so much more room for Minns and Cristafooli to really just take the piss.
He is on a hiding to nothing with this one to be fair. Can you imagine the reaction if he denied Hertzog a visa?

What we are seeing is how Israel operates. The state will use anything to divert attention away from the genocide. They will literally use and do anything.

A least we don't have to listen to a parliamentary address. Seeing Netanyahu in the USA Congress is sickening.

They just don't invite them, they don't deny visas. It's not like the Ayatollah or foreign dignitaries just apply for holiday visas.

Inviting the head of Israel because Jews were killed is conflating Israel with Judaism. It's the core mistake of all of this.

The bolded part has been my fear even since before the Ukraine war started, that the US wants it's "useful idiots" in our region to be their pawn in any war on China. Which I would rigorously oppose if it became a possibility.

And I agree that we should be seeking better relations with our region as a whole, which has been happening if not to the scale we'd like. It doesn't have to be an Asian NATO either, mutual military support and economic ties, but not in the rigid way NATO (or the EU) operates, which was always a US dominated organisation even since the USSR fell. Which I believe was in the spirit of Carney's speech.
USA has already conceded on China. War with them is not happening. China are already economically bigger (measured by PPP), has a significantly bigger industrial base now, and their military is more than adequate for an Asian war.

That is why the USA will not deliver the submarines - because the USA does not even need them anymore. They will continue to take Australian tax payers money for as long as they can though.

I think you're giving Albo exactly what he wants here

Absolutely.

They 100% do not want to fight any conflict themselves and would happily see Japan in ruins after squeezing them for every last drop of military spending, or Australia depopulated etc. and swoop in and camp on our respurces.

The AUKUS shamozzle has made it clear. They want iron clad guarantees Australia will defend Taiwan, even if the US doesn't plan to and BTW, that doesn't even guarantee we get the naval hardware they've "promised". We are currently paying to retool US and British submarine manufacturing capacity and there are even factions that want us to be a pointless sacrificial lamb for the privilege.

It is beyond nonsensical, but one wonders if our leaders are stupid or cowardly enough to go along with one of the most strategically idiotic plans in history.

Because it absolutely won't weaken China OR strengthen the US.
The deal is so bad only Morrison could be responsible for it.

They've put China on the back burner, for now.
I think them admitting China's economic and manufacturing might is accurate.

I still see them circling back to China at some point. It may not be for a while but it seems inevitable given all the China hawks still in the GOP and relevant departments.

Either way they have the Aus Gov and taxpayers by the cojones and that won't change for a while.

I'd suggest as others have said he invited himself - and when that happened Albanese's only option was to deny a visa or play along.

How can they circle back? Nothing is going to get better for America. It is going to get worse.

Agree with your last point. However, given the distrust in the USA right now there has never been a better time for Australia to go full Australia first - and that means fixing the resource rent rip offs that the USA and others are benefiting from.

I agree it's only going to get worse for them, the rationale I had was more they'll be a wounded animal and would be more likely to lash out. And China is still their primary adversary.

Fully agree that it's time to go "Australia first" too, for the lack of a better phrase 😅. Which is something we've never had. Whitlam was the closest to achieving it but we all know how that ended.

By playing the so called straight bat and being "reasonable" re: Herzog, Albanese is simply playing the long game, while his political opponents tear themselves apart. He is betting that short-term angst post Bondi will eventually fade.

I don't support it on principle, at all. But that's what he's doing. And he's often underestimated, or criticised, but eventually comes out grinning.

If you're looking for a principled Australian Prime Minister, you're living on the wrong side of the millennium.

Unless Benji has pics of Albo in his Unknown Pleasures t-shirt at Epstein Island, then I think Albo would be well within his rights to politely tell him to **** off.

I think the conspiracy theory angle is more easily explained away by Albo trying too hard to compensate to the Jewish community. And I don't think either Albo or the Jewish community thought things through hard enough.
You actually think Australia has any relevance or power in this twisted cruel world?
Have to follow or be thrown in the bin.

I don’t think we need to give a duck about what Israel wants.

Timing so poor that even Trump is calling out Israel's escalation of West Bank occupation.

Why invite the President of a nation whose government is (beyond Gaza) assisting mass ethnic displacement and pogroms in an entire seperate region.

The hostages have been returned and Hamas does not run the West Bank, so how do leaders even hope to defend or square away the actions of both settlers, IDF and Israeli state on an issue even the US has long viewed as a gross violation of international law?

Brutalising peaceful protesters, mumbling plattitudes or making it illegal to criticise said settlements in the proper languange isn't going to change public or international opinion.

Amazing timing and again, entirely foreseeable.

I'm sure you also think it would have been appropriate for the Ayatollah to visit New Zealand after the Christchurch mosque shootings?

Spare us your moral grandstanding, it's embarrassing.

I agree he is playing the long game - it is not like he is going to lose any votes to the LNP or ON over this.
