Yeah but tbh he is not an Afl footballer
And it's concerning when Pittonet is a walk up start for us yet wouldn't be in to top 25 ruckman in the afl
All the more reason to like him.

He’s basically the “send Liam out to deck Player X - if he cops a suspension, oh well” guy. ;)

One thing that’s gone largely unnoticed by others is how good it is to have someone like Liam Reidy genuinely flying the flag for our younger players, just as he did in the last quarter.

In the past, you’d see Curnow or Harry respond with a bit of nervous laughter during a playful shove, but Reidy brings a different edge. Loved it.
Loved Reidy's clumsy tackle on Ashcroft(?) in the 1st - 'lost' his footing, collasped onto him knees first and then pushed all 110kgs of himself into Levi when getting up. If there's a hint of hesitation from opposition mids about going for a ground ball because of that clumsy bastard, he's adding some value.

Was also the first to come in and rough up Allen for throwing Dean over the line.

Straight out of the "Oops Tristan Xerri/Shane Mumford" I'm a clumsy oaf playbook.

Get the feeling Reidy is the sort who isn't satisfied if he hasn't legally flattened a few opposition players a game.

Not complaining.

Finally watched game last night. Just can't take much out of it. It was a low pressure pre season game to blow out the cobwebs. Pressure will tell us much more indiviudally and as a group.

Very dissappointed for Cerra

What I did like is that the inclusions like Hayward Ainsworth Florent have really added to our side in experience, smarts and talent. I feel that will make a big difference in many areas

Cripps Weitering Newman will make us better. I feel Chesser Wilson Reidy Boyd Moir need to do more next week to get a Rd 0 spot. Hoping Cowan Carroll Acres are available soon and apparently Ison & Evans were good in VFL.

Kids showed some good signs

Looked like we were more mobile and had more run and support. Geelong game will tell us a lot more

Not for me. Talent is there, tank has improved out of sight.

Intent is still not there yet

Is it intent or is it belief or confidence with Moir? I'm not 100% sure

I just feel he is played out of position. Every time I see him play up the ground he looks more comfortable and positive. He reads the play better there. He is involved. Just because he has exquisite skills doens't make him a forward.

My take is we are developing him wrong and wasting his talent

Does he have the tank to play a full game further up the field? I thought that was always one of the concerns with him.

Moir has improved a lot but this is part of my point. If he did pre season in middle it would improve more IMO

Even if he was spending half the time on ball I believe it would help him in many areas. In the VFL when he played there he seemed to handle it okay

When he plays forward he seems like a different player. Not as assured and waiting for ball to be delivered to him

Just my take

I'm not against the idea at all. I do think he lacks a bit of hunger/intent at the footy, which makes me wonder how he'd fare further up the field. I will concede I haven't seen it occur in the VFL so you've obviously got a better gauge on it than I.

Motlop was coming into the middle at times last season wasn't he? He could slot straight into that role if we think he's best 22. I'd still prefer to see him than someone like Fogarty (who I know is very solid and dependable, I just don't think there's as much talent there).

I think Moir struggles with forward instincts for positioning and timing.

I think he is great once he is in the contest

Few more observations:

Hayward doesn't work hard enough.
Reidy is soft.
Ainsworth? Was he even playing?
Hollands and Lord have elite disposal.
Walsh and Jagga didn't do jack in the last quarter when the game was there to be one.
Dean and Derksen - zero goals between them.
Byrne needs to be more impactful if he's only having limited TOG.
Players are scared to kick long down the line or bomb it to our forwards - serious coaching issue.

Am I the only one thinking the Brisbane game will be the proper hit out? I could see the kids getting much more of a run next week, seeing as we play only 7 days later
I'd assume you'd see someone like Cripps play at least a half.

He's a natural half forward who has the talent to play deeper as a leading forward however this part of his game is underdeveloped and I think we are trying to push along the development of this. If we are successful we will have a very high impact player on our list who can move between forward pocket, half forward and go on the ball for stints.

Pitto had his moments, but he'd need a lot more of them to stay in any other team in the league. Unimpressed by Reidy, who let his aggression take hold too readily and cooked clear position at the tap just to make a point.

Still would rather we invest minutes into O'Keeffe, as I suspect this is TDK all over again.

With any luck we'll have confidence in Kemp and McKay and just have Young/McGovern and McKay handling stoppage relief at each end to start the season, and Cripps spelling O'Keeffe on what should be a limited number of a midfield stoppages.

Expecting a big chunk of changes for the Geelong game, and Weitering and Acres to front up against Sydney.

Byrne is an outside chance for a bench spot, but 5th on the bench isn't a 4th quarter sub anymore, and we shouldn't look a gift horse with a deep enough list to give us an advantage over a decent chunk of the league.

Every player picked should be right to play 80 minutes at the elite level, or they go to the reserves, or into a training block.

I want Sydney gasping for air, not us lamenting Pittonet and O'Keffee leaving us a runner down in the second half. They're no Gawn or Grundy.

To be fair most sim games are low pressure and hardly any tackling just look at Dunkley who had zero tackles.

Your right the cats game will tell us a lot more.

Had one or two moments where he really put the foot down to apply a bit of pressure, but a defensive forward he is not.

...
A quick HBF getting away from Moir isn't by default a failing on his part.

I'm in no way writing him off btw, I have a lot more faith after last year's criticisms were about his lack of tank/inability to do second efforts and he improved significantly over the season.

I just don't think he is a naturally aggressive player and he tends to float and wait for it a bit. If he can learn when to go and when to wait he'll make it as a medium forward or have to be repurposed into a role where you follow the ball or someone to the ball.

I have some faith in him to put in the work

Yep, think if he's playing forward then he needs a very clearly defined role in a good system.

On ball I think he can be a bit more instinctive.

But maybe...just maybe...a stint in the VFL off half back might be something to consider if he's not gonna be playing seniors every week. Build a bit of his defensive/1-on-1 game, and see how he goes setting up play on transition.

He looks like a natural forward to me. Just need patience. Once he puts on that bit more muscle, builds his core strength / tank over 1 or 2 more preseasons we'll see the player. Right now it's still just flashes. Super talent though.

Result is irrelevant.

The positives are irrelevant - but the negatives are relevant?

For me - yes the win/loss is relatively irrelevant (although getting thrashed would have been a disaster) but not the efficiency of the new personnel in the forward line. The critical factor for our success or otherwise this seasonThreats from all over the forward line - no reliance on CC or HM to kick a bag.

Some promising signs there no?
