Whoopdedoo.

The evidence to date is that our rebuild is far from producing a premiership team. We can be less smug about it.

Don’t forget that Cromulant just watched us torch Port by 2 scoring shots over 3 quarters. Even though he predicts Port to be bottom few, that’s an enormous result and a Certain sign that we’re a genuine contender.

Ah we're at the stage of the night where you haven't got much left in the kit bag and start taking weird potshots

Cool, bit early but alas.

My view is that individual players that are fighting for a spot will take it very seriously. But regardless of whether you play for Brisbane or West Coast, if you’re safe in the 23, you most likely don’t put in too hard.

It’s why I don’t judge players playing well or poorly in 100 point thumpings. Not all players can hit maximum intensity when the game is over 10 minutes in. And at the other end, a spud lighting it up in a rout is equally as meaningless.
I think North don't take regular games seriously and do exactly what you've said which is give up 10 minutes into a thumping

The fact they have a culture that allows them to do that across regular games and trials is a big problem.

I don’t think any meaningful conclusions can be drawn from a scratch match. I understand many think differently, but I disagree.

It's a bit like George Costanza (the real, fictional one) and his belief in God.

I thought you didn't believe in God?

I do for the bad things.

Poor trial game form I find worrying. Good trial game form I find meaningless.

He might be right, but I don’t care. Had Port beaten us on the scoreboard it wouldn’t have changed my best guess on how our season will unfold. Same as next week, these games don’t matter, outside of getting an idea on who is making the 23 and in what role.

Really? He'd be about the 15th best player on their list. Seems weird to start being choosy now.

He's on the same level as Rory Atkins. A guy that looks great when there's no pressure, but turns invisible when it's tough. You'd want to play against him because you'd know he's utterly beatable when it counts.

I have no doubt he'd be best 22 at Port, but that speaks more about their depth than his quality.

He can be both garbage and their 15th best player.

Yep they can throw that shinboner spirit shit out the window.

I don't understand how Carlton could offer Sam Walsh a seven year deal. All clubs would have him but I doubt there are many who would be opening the cheque book and be prepared to offer a long term deal.

Good handy midfielder but not over damaging, right back to his draft year I always rated Bailey Smith as the superior player with his hurt factor way way more damaging.....yeah I know shit bloke but a bloody good footballer. Hard to se Walsh as a $1.3 million per annum player JMO.

Complete madness. I can not believe anyone would sign off on that. Well done to the player and player manager though.

Putting aside how he is rated as a player his injury history should be enough to rule this kind of contract out
Also the player has had chronic back issues.... This contract has disaster written all over it, he isn't an A grade superstar he's just a very good solid player.

Interesting to read the article and learn that we had interest in him as a free agent. I guess we’re reaching far and wide to bring players in. Although I don’t rate him either. As mentioned, he just isn’t damaging. At his best he’s an accumulator, but it’s seems like a considerable period of time since we’ve seen him at anywhere near his best. How the hell does he get that sort of contract ?? Madness in my mind.

I said this would be the case from day 1 .....at least the Gold Coast held some interest for players .....this could end up a permanent basketcase of a club

It's a real issue. As a sporting code we need to get to a level where the $$$ is worth more than the home city (like almost every other professional sport on earth).

Yes, Gold Coast had to pay a premium to keep players .....other AFL Clubs will force Tassie to overpay .....that said, the emotional draw of players to the mainland will be huge ...irrespective of the money, which AFL Clubs will match for the stars
