I'm happy the club did basically everything I wanted them to do 2 years ago finally, but then I look at the names at the bottom 10 of the side like Adams, Henderson, Sharp, Laurie, Campbell and co and realise our list is still full of crap talent and then I'm back at peace with the veil

Yeah we still have a lot of crap on the list, if King can somehow get Petty/JVR/Rivers/Windsor to take the next step we could be a top 10 team but if we get an injury or two and the development on those guys who should be in their peak stalls we will be bottom 2.

Blues just signed Wade Derksen :madv1::madv1::madv1:
He actually played decent in their practise game against Brisbane

But yeah it's funny

Honestly campaigners are just gagging to play the victim and get sympathy in any situation these days

Isak Rankine saying he thought about retiring after his ban for the f word and Oscar Allen saying he was crying before and after his press Conference because he decided to take shitloads of cash from Brisbane.

Give me a spell, if these campaigners want sympathy it's between shit and syphilis in the dictionary

I'm one of the few people who is fine with the wildcard concept but christ does the AFL like to overcomplicate these things.

Adding an extra line to the ladder achieves what exactly? What information is it actually conveying? This feels like a response to the people who were complaining that wildcard games would still be counted as finals so they've done another one of their weird half-measures.

Not against more footy myself however the wildcard round does feel tokenistic, gimmicky and deludes teams a bit. Like when we didn't make it in 2017, I wasn't thinking that there should be a wildcard round, we just weren't good enough.

This is like the peak of journalism for the sake of journalism. It's not the club's burden to justify their internal 'pass marks' for the sake of the media's predatory clamouring. It'll depend on club's internal standards and where they're at etc.

Probably some clubs would view finishing 10th after a mediocre season where they don't beat anyone above them and then somehow knocking off both 7th and 5th before being annihilated by 4th in the semifinals as a win, whereas the 5th placed club that competed with and beat multiple top 4 sides during the H&A season and then just had an offday and lost to the wildcard 10th might also view the season as progress.

But then again half the reason the AFL introduces these gimmicks is to manufacture this kind of nonsense dialogue and draw any kind of attention.

I think of it as adding an extra hurdle for 7th and 8th, which then also gives a bit more of an advantage to 5th and 6th. I mostly like that we will lose a few dead rubbers at the end of the season and we don't lose all the momentum leading into finals with the bye week.

Also it fades the curtains and confuses the cows.

It just feels 'off'. The execution at least.

I'd link an article but they're all paywalled and the title says it all really.

AFL umpires set to have access to 16 key statistics when they lodge Brownlow Medal votes

AFL umpires are sick of being mocked on Brownlow night for perceived errors. Now, the league is set to lock in a historic change to how footy’s biggest award is voted on.
With this and finally having a home base at Windy Hill, sounds like the AFL are actually looking after umpires right now.

Not to mention, with 2017, it changes the story from missing finals by 0.5 percentage to simply losing home ground advantage.

Though it would've been funny watching the Bulldogs lose and still go from 11th to 10th thanks to the Saints by 0.2 percentage.

I agree it was our own fault, blowing percentage against Brisbane and then getting done by pies. However Essendon got in with a really soft draw then got pumped by Sydney. The wildcard round is gimmicky it's essential a 10 team finals system with a flash name. Look at the end of the day 7-10 aren't doing much but may as well have something to fill in the finals by weekend.

Geez Carlton are struggling to move the ball against Geelong despite dominating possession.
The real story here is that Derksen is DOMINATING.

Didn't even realise Derksen was recruited by Carlton. Now surely that's a player north could have chased. Ready made backman and only 24 years old.
Exactly. I really liked him tbh. Was hoping we'd recruit him, but realise we had Turner, Petty, Lever,Adams etc in that area already and it wasn't an area of need. I hope he goes ok. I feel like we rode his wave together.

The stupid thing about Derkson is how stubborn and petty GWS were about trading him only to delist. What a bunch of nobs. Hope he just pips Culley for the Brownlow.
Derksen was such a weird hill to die on. I’m can completely understand holding a best 23 player to contract or a recent high draftee - but a mid season draftee who is 23 years old and never played a game?!?

Yeah was weird, usually those sort of trades get done. Not quite the same but kind of reminds me of Nick Stevens at Port, they didn't want to trade him to Collingwood so he walked to Carlton in the pre-season. OK not really the same as he was a high profile but I'm using as segue to this. https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/form...ourt-after-day-of-technical-issues-c-21753064
