should play em at cragieburn
Didn't mind the ground there but no atmosphere like most vfl grounds. I knew the AFL want to expand the comp but this is ridiculous :( Melbourne v Richmond, Mars Stadium, 4.10pm

Richmond Assistant Coach Jake Batchelor has confidence the side will apply their learnings from last week's match simulation into Friday's AAMI Community Series clash against Melbourne in Ballarat.

It's Richmond's final chance to play against opposition before the Club's 2026 season officially begins against Carlton on Thursday, March 12.

For Batchelor, the game presents the opportunity to fine-tune the good and improve on style, flow and confidence.

"Friday offers another fantastic chance to strengthen our system, enhance our collective connection and allow our players to gain valuable insights into their abilities under pressure," Batchelor said.

"We just want to get better each week with our game plan adherence, and learn from previous weeks."

The side is taking a holistic approach to improvement, ensuring the takeaways from the match will only make Richmond stronger.

"We've had a great week reviewing the game against Essendon, but also continue to focus on our own system that needs attention," Batchelor said.

There's a lot to take away from last Friday's match simulation against the Bombers, which saw all four of the 2025 draftees get a crack at the NEC Hangar, as well as valuable minutes to second-year players Jonty Faull, Harry Armstrong, Sam Lalor and others.

But there is lots to work on, Batchelor believes, with more important game exposure to come against Melbourne, who will prove solid competition.

"Consistency is key. Last week we showed great signs across all three phases, but as you’d expect with a first practice match and fresh young players, we had lapses," Batchelor said.

Friday's meeting at Mars Stadium in Ballarat will also see more veterans get a shot at some minutes before Round 1.

"We should also welcome back some more experienced players for the match, which we are keen for," Batchelor said.

The match begins at 4.10pm (AEDT), live on Fox Footy and Kayo Sports.

Richmond has selected its side that will face off against Melbourne in Friday's AAMI Community Series match in Ballarat.

Excitingly, Tom Lynch, Nathan Broad, Sam Banks, Seth Campbell and Maurice Rioli will feature for the first time in 2026, after all being rested last week.

Broad will lead the backline, alongside Ben Miller, Josh Gibcus, James Trezise, Sam Grlj and Jayden Short.

Tyler Sonsie, Sam Lalor and Kane McAuliffe make up the centreline. Skipper Toby Nankervis takes his spot in the ruck, alongside followers Tim Taranto and Jack Ross.

Campbell resumes his spot in the forward line alongside Rioli, Steely Green, Rhyan Mansell, Lynch and Harry Armstrong.

Tom Brown, Hugo Ralphsmith, Jacob Hopper, Sam Cumming, Campbell Gray, Banks, Liam Fawcett and Luke Trainor make up the interchange.

Patrick Retschko, Kaleb Smith, Jasper Alger and Zane Peucker are the emergencies.

Taj Hotton (hip), Dion Prestia (hamstring), Josh Smillie (quad), Tom Sims (foot), Samson Ryan (foot), and Judson Clarke (ACL) remain on the Club’s injury list and were unavailable for selection.

Jonty Faull is in concussion protocols following a head knock against Essendon, while Nick Vlastuin has again been managed.

Richmond's AAMI Community Series match against Melbourne is set for Friday at 4.10pm (AEDT) at Mars Stadium, Ballarat. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Footy and Kayo Sports.

Not far off out best side.

Interesting that Alger and Retschko arent named. Seems like the hype hasn't matched the output.

Sonsie and McAuliffe look to be our preferred wingman alongside Hugo.

10 defenders in that lineup. Some of them are going to have to play different roles.
The bottom 4 players aren't playing, they are emergencies

Alger stiff - thought he was good in the second half last week. Better than Green at least.
