The sub rule is no longer?

I think Lipinski is a good ball user when under little or no pressure. The Carlton game I thought he hit people lace out inside 50m.

When we play well, he plays well. But I don't think he is the reason we play well. For example his best quarter in the Prelim was the second when the team was up and about. But he was also one of those that went missing when it mattered.

But it's fine I do realise that Lipinski is a popular player amongst the masses
Maybe the team went missing because Lippa had a quiet second half. ;)

He frustrates me. Not particularly good at anything. Slows down our ball movement as well. I think Steele will be much better. I'll be happier when Steele, Hayes or HH overtake him. Lipinski is a good ordinary player, in the words of Captain Blood
He was excellent in that third term in the final against Adelaide- he won plenty of his own ball and set up our forwards with some great footy. I think Lippa is underappreciated because of his pretty boy looks and a poor 2023 with his wrecked shoulder making him unwilling to tackle with ferocious intent.

HF: Phillipou, Sharman, Hall
F: Higgins, Owens, Ryan

I imagine that will be their starting forward line, with Marshall and TDK supporting. Looking at their height;

Phillipou - 190cm
Sharman - 193cm
Hall - 183cm
Higgins - 178cm
Owens - 191cm
Ryan - 181cm

It sucks that we don't have Moore though we should be able to cover them with; Frampton, Maynard, Perryman, Houston, Quaynor and Cochran. DC will need to fill the hole as he always does.

This is why I don’t get the rush to play Cochran just because he’s “tall”.

Playing devil's advocate, he's quick and has good endurance. Would come in handy against this forward line.
I think Cochran has potential, I just don’t agree with the view that he must play just because he’s our next tall. Highlighted by your breakdown against the saints forward line he could potentially have a role.

My only query is he played ok last season but wasn’t a standout by any stretch. I’d still like to see him playing more VFL but obviously injuries may force our hand

Saints will start well in this game.

Get a start but fail to cash in on a big margin early.

Giving Pies a sniff quarter 2.

Close at half time.

Saints kick goal in the 3rd then miss goals.

Pies get a look in.

Pies lead by slender 14 points at 3 quarter time.

Pies start to click quarter 4 kind of linking up as well.

Pies kick away late and wins by 19 points

Ok cool i know we have Mars this weekend but this at this stage is my line up for the saints at the MCG:

fb: cochran frampton iq
cb: perryman maynard pendles
c: josh daicos nick daicos houston
cf: shultz buller mccreery
ff: elliott mcstay steele
r: cameron de goey crisp
int: allan harrison side west
sub: lipinski

outs moore 1-2 weeks crows game? calf howe 1-2 weeks crows game? calf reef 1 week crows? just sprained ankle sustained todays session no need for scans but looked gingerly getting up take no further part in training needs a week or 2 resting up
ins: cochran harrison buller

looks settled apart from down back need pendles to go down there and stabilize things light on the ground for tall defenders this game thats why i selected jo cochran

rest looks good and about right.

bit of a rope and dope game this one v saints.

tipping a pies win tho by 17 points.

be around 80k at the mcg as well.

Could we see Crisp spend a bit of time down back, with Josh to spend time in the middle? Crisp has been our D50 runner before and should fare better in those incidental aerial contests than Josh would.

From what I’ve seen, crisp is predominantly in the middle
Josh prob rotates with pendles from hb and mid

Quite possibly. He transitioned to that role when Murphy went down in the GF

I only half watched the practice match, but I thought Cochran was playing on smalls. With a few defenders out, he might push for a game, but I doubt it'll be as a tall. I've seen nothing to make me think that he's good at protecting the ball drop or impacting aerial contests yet. IQ, Bruzzy and Perryman all look better at it to me. But maybe into one of their standard roles.

I think we are just desperate for a KPD and a lot of people are just hoping he’s ready. I agree I’ve never seen him as a true KPD. Similar to that I don’t see Blakey as one. I think he’s got potential given his height and running traits as a third tall and given how we play he could help kill contests as support.

I think Syd passed on him because he wasn’t a true KPD that they ended up grabbing.

Would like to see him on a wing tbh
