Feels like BBC/BAFTA wanted a gotcha moment and succeeded
Isn't there a current PAFC player with Tourettes Syndrome?
I was wondering how that would work with on-field sledging, kids clinics etc but I think I read that his isn't a verbal condition & perhaps more like involuntary movement.
Up until then I didn't know that was a symptom, apparently cases can include uncontrolled blinking, smiling or even laughing.
It was really interesting to lean.

Tom Cochrane. He’s played 2 games at AFL and also x SANFL games but yep haven’t noticed anything that his Tourette’s plays on field too so far

well SAME but
that's because of the characters and the script. Larry made her laugh, they'd experienced a whole life together. Luke had not experienced life after the age of what, 23? It's a no-brainer of a choice to me.
and as two actual human beings, not characters...Miles Teller vs Callum Turner is a problem I would love to have
:tearsofjoy:
Oh again, I just meant based on looks alone šŸ˜‚

It has to be one of the most exquisitely shot movies ever made. I watched the Criterion Collection Blu-ray version on 70" TV and it looked amazing. I can imagine it would be more immersive at the cinema.

There's a fairly simple plot, well told. I'm not much of a fan of voice-overs but this one worked for me. I couldn't quite get over my aversion to Richard Gere but Sam Shepard and Brooke Adams were great.

Yeah I believe Malick struggled in the editing room and decided to bring Linda Manz back after the fact to improvise narration, following Sissy Spacek in Badlands and becoming a key part of his style. It might be the best use of a narration in a film and just evokes something more. I get not being a fan of Gere but think he’s fine here - it doesn’t really require big dramatic presence as his character in particular is basically spectral.

Really glad to hear this!
A few years ago I payed a fair bit for the 4k without seeing it.
I'd always heard it was a masterpiece (& one of Mallicks best) but I've become so frustrated with his recent films, I never ended up watching it!
Basically anything after The Tree of Life, I haven't been able to finish.
Its unfortunately also why I ended up checking out of Train Dreams before the end.

I think Jacob Elordi would be a good James Bond, the first film I saw him in was Saltburn where he played a posh English bloke.

I actually thought he was English and was surprised to find out he was Australian, not that it should rule him out as another Australian George Lazenby played the role of James Bond, albeit for only one film but it could've been more if he wasn't so stupid.

I don't think Jacob needs to take that role though at this stage of his career, he seems to be getting a lot of offers for other films.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

First of all, if you haven't seen it hurry up and do so, wtf are you waiting for.

Seen it many times, the first as a young teenager and it scared the shit out of me.

This is as chilling a psychological thriller as you'll get. The story itself is pretty good and engaging, but **** me if the two leads don't absolutely nail their roles. Their voices, their facial expressions, especially Jodie Foster and how she subtly changes them, are spot on.

One of only three (I think) movies to win the big 5 academy awards. The soundtrack and winterscape gives the whole thing a foreboding eeriness. It's all so cold and morbid, and yet among it all we have a young female trainee FBI agent growing before our eyes.

The supporting cast are restrained and the direction respects the gravity of the tale.

Can't think of the last time a movie made my hair stand on end so much, and I've already seen it heaps.

5 stars

Gangs of New York.

Ive kinda been going through Leo's history with my recent rewatches and its mostly very very good. As is DDL in almost everything. DDL in this film is charasmatic, haunting and visually a piece of art, but the film lacks something.

Leo is not at his best, but he's up against a giant.

For the 2h 46m its a bit disappointing. There's a brilliant talent recipe here with Marty(all his friends call him that), Leo and DDL, but there's just something missing.

69/99 stars.

Scream 7-Early contender for worst movie of the year,The only scary thing about it was the knowledge that the Plastic Surgeon that worked on Courtney Cox's face is still free to walk among us

That's an amazing effort to go to your first training as a kid with that affliction, let alone go through years of a sustainable career managing it

I haven’t. What would you recommend?

My jam seems to mostly be slice of life movies and character studies. On the surface maybe not much happens, but they pack an emotional punch.

I think Badlands and Days of Heaven, his two first moves, from the 70s, are probably the ideal introductions. Only 90 minutes too! Which is a runtime he’s never really returned to.

I love Badlands but still havent got around to Days of Heaven, need to track it down.
Ive had Tree of Life on my to watch list since it came out but also havent found the time to watch it.

Have now seen 9 of the Oscar best picture nominees (rare for me) and honestly an awesome collection of films - to my taste at least. Rarely is the slate this far up my alley.

Being a nerd obviously I must rank them:

Craft, vision and execution

1. OBAA
2. Marty Supreme

My kind of thriller and an awesome ending

3. Bugonia

Ambitious movies that use genre tropes to tell a deeper story

4. The Secret Agent
5. Sinners

Emotionally hard hitting - more traditionally Oscar fare but still really enjoyed

6. Train Dreams
7. Sentimental Value
8. Hamnet

Obligatory Hollywood blockbuster

9. F1

Haven't seen: Frankenstein.
Cool. My top 3 would be the same. I need to see The Secret Agent I guess too.

Haha the convo on the looks of those guys is interesting. I would agree none of them are like your Cruise, Pitt looking guys. But some comments here are so true, it's all about the way they carry themselves. Even like De Niro and Pacino you wouldn't really say are traditionally really good looking people but they become that when you see the way they act.

I think Barry Keoghan is ugly honestly. Do people think he's hot? And he's not really going to be a lead too much I don't think. Prefer him in a role like his in Crime 101. Great actor though.

The better question is which of those guys can carry movies themselves. Jeremy Allen White and Chalamet might be the only two out of those ones I think. I really am not a big fan of Driver as a lead.
