If you look at the cohort of who is injured it is clear what is happening, Serpell is removing healthy tissue from the young blokes and transplanting it into the older blokes.

Hotton (ACL), Faull (Back stress fracture), Lalor (Hammy tendon), Sims (elbow), Trainor (concussion), Alger (broken finger) & Cummings (Shoulder) all had serious injuries' in their last year of junior footy. Pretty obvious Blair ****ed up by ignoring their injury history.
Selwood acl or no cartridge … petraca acl … Ashcroft acl
Etc etc … give it 2 years and then carry on like a pork chop

18 months in with Smillie... Timelines always getting pushed back. No definite answers outside of his Quad surgery. Club have been vague about Smillie last year.

Supporters have every right to question the situation. Especially given he was taken in the top 10...

2024 draft, injuries either in draft year or in first year or so on a list

Lalor - hammy
FOS - multiple finger problems
Jagga - fine then did acl
Draper - groin, and still having issues
Levi - fine but unavailable
Langford - fine
Smillie - fine then quad in 1st year
Travaglia - back stress fractures
Lombard - dislocated shoulder
Tauru - back stress fractures
Lindsay - pcl
Hotton - acl
Kako - ankle syndesmosis x 2 then hammy
Faull - back stress fractures
Berry - fine
Allan - Achilles and back stress fractures
Reid - ankle syndesmosis
Hannaford - broken wrist and sydesmosis
Oliver - fine
Hynes - fine
Trainor - ankle and concussion
Datolli - back stress fractures
Armstrong - hammy
Angove - back stress fractures
Marshall - fine

Maybe the question should actually be are we putting way to big a load on 18 year old kids. The step up from u/18 athlete to AFL level athlete is massive.

He had no injuries as a junior mate …

I’m not saying don’t question the current situation … but to complain about picking him at 7 because of junior injuries is rubbish

Completely reasonable to want to know a bit more than what the club is giving us, given we've pinned a lot of hope on this guy, and the injuries to Hotton and Cumming have taken a fair chunk of excitement out of things.

But given it's been the same messaging, it's most likely they're not rushing anything and having precaution. And probably even more precaution given the injuries to our other young guys.

Again, according to training reports his training load has super gradually been increasing, slower than early estimates but they'd update us if there's a setback. Why wouldn't they????

FWIW I don't buy the conspiracy theories that the club is hiding shit, please all the tin foil guys, tell me why the club wouldn't be honest?
didn't they do it last year though? pretty sure they hid an injury for a few weeks then finally told us what was going on after a lot of complaints. kinda just seemed like they were scared of telling the fans what was really happening lol. you'd think they wouldn't do it again though

did they hide it, or did they get more information, take their time to assess etc? I dunno.

Club/Serpell probably owes the punter a more detailed assessment of where Smillie is at.

If Yze says 2 weeks or so, I hope he is right, because it sounds shonky otherwise. At the moment we have to take Yze on his word, until told otherwise. Simple really.

The Club can also confirm that Josh Smillie is unfortunately set for a further period on the sidelines after suffering a new quad injury.

“Josh, unfortunately, suffered a quad strain at one of our recent rehab sessions, which will delay his return to play,” Serpell said.

“To be clear, it is not a re-injury of the injury which required surgery, and the young man himself is as disappointed as everyone else at the Club is for him, given the work he has put in.

“We are on the right path with Josh. However, we also want to be conservative and anticipate that this will unfortunately extend his rehab by 4-8 weeks.

“We will have a clearer picture on this in the coming weeks.”

Season over.

Why the hell hasn't Serpell been marched for this issue alone. Its farken incompetence

About time Dunne who sounds like a complete dud when he talks started holding people accountable at the club, demanding high performance and at the very least minimum standards and Serpell has been a complete disaster.

In any high performing club he'd no longer be there. Its embarrassing that he is still with us.
