So is that a Good or Bad Thing?
Good thing for equality for the comp. Clubs will have to get creative if they have a top prospect or hope tied prospects fall down the draft order.

Might tell Prospects not to play too well ;)

This feels like they’ve gone to far the other way to me… guess time will tell
Yeah.
So much for them saying last year "We'll see how this system goes for the next couple years" before change.
They jump to extremes when someone complains.

Clubs will have to hope their players sort of not perform or get injured so they dont have to top top dollar, because they are saying.. if a player is a top 5, you might need two pick 7's to match.
Will determine how much a club wants a player

That what they mean by you might have to Trade a Gun to get the Picks you want

Definitely mean more High End Prospects would go in the Open Draft as Teams can't match

That seems bit over paying for me

Not being able to bid with multiple junk picks etc is a good thing, and I don’t have all the answers, but yeah I do feel they’ve ignored the middle ground and gone to the extreme the other way.

Or you try to plan for the worst case senario as best as you can. The ability trade future picks might help.

Agree. You shouldn't be allowed to use late picks, but I would have thought middle ground too, 1st and 2nd rounders would have been a step in the right direction.
Interesting to see how this goes, Carlton and Port will be the test case this year.

Carlton will be coughing up big time for Walker
They will have to given they have committed to him, and him to them. He could have easily chosen richmond as NGA and they would have easily gotten a bid done, given their likely ending position.

Can trade past 1 year ahead so you could give 3+ 1st Round Picks for a High Pick

Blues could be a Bottom 4-6 Side in 2026

NGA & FATHER-SONS

Collingwood fans should keep an eye on Ricky Hobson this year, who is part of the Magpies’ Next Generation Academy.

A high half-forward, Hobson is a strong endurance runner who has performed well in running tests during pre-season.

Max Christian is also eligible to join the Magpies as a father-son, being the son of 1990 premiership player and current AFL match review officer Michael.

The Chargers have three further father-son prospects among their bottom-age group who will be draft eligible in 2027.

They are Ted Fraser (Collingwood, son of Josh), Ryder Brown (Melbourne, son of Nathan) and Oscar King (Geelong, son of Steven).

Pies fans will be watching Ricky Hobson with interest this season. Picture: Craig Dooley/AFL Photos via Getty Images.

OTHER FAMILIAR NAMES

Tjaegan Egan is the son of former Collingwood player Chris Egan.

While not father-son eligible given his dad played only 27 AFL games, Egan is available as an NGA prospect for the Magpies in 2027.

If Hobson and Christian came on that would do us a world of good!

Hopefully.
Christian is a key defender.

They didn't mention Eli. Probably dont know who he is lol But I think this article does focus a lot more on the top agers, and can't mention every single one of those linked to the pies. Saxena was never mentioned this time of year.

Let’s remember reef was a Essendon fan
Saxena went for the hawks
We can’t tell these kids who to support before we draft them
