American Psycho

I must admit, I find I enjoy this a bit less each time I watch it. Appreciate it for the classic it is but I'm starting to enjoy ambiguity less and less as I get older.

7.5/10

The Menu - just a very watchable movie. 7/10
Whole cast is on point but I especially love how douchey and pretentious Nicholas Hoult's character is. Excellent movie.

One of my fave recent films.

I just rewatched Nosferatu too in which he plays the ultimate cuck. Very different role to this one where he basically completely ignores Anya Taylor-Joy haha. Good actor.

He is awesome. Loved him in Juror #2.
How was he in Superman anyone?
He was fine in Superman, don't think the script or film did any him any favours. It's a fine superhero film but nothing more and his character was both iconic and underdone at the same time. Loved him in The Menu, Nosferatu, Juror #2 (very underrated film).

My dad sent me this template ahead of the Oscars on Monday, bit of fun. Feel free to use if you want.

Pretty cool bunch of nominees this year so I'm not gonna be too mad if my "should win" picks don't get up

Finally got around to watching Rush.

It was decent but I don’t think it touches Ford v Ferrari as the best racing movie. Not as much meat on the bone.
I’m gonna have to revisit Ford v Ferrari. I absolutely did not like it when I saw ir but I’m wondering if it’s because I was 38 weeks pregnant and nothing would have made me happy.

The Ice Tower - in the early 1970s, a teenage orphan runs away from her home and on a cold wintery night takes shelter in what turns out to be a film set, where they are shooting an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen, with Marion Cotillard as the actress playing the lead role. The girl takes up a role as an extra but increasingly comes under the wing of the cold and enigmatic lead actress. I loved the atmosphere of this film, which is beautiful in its extreme coldness. I've been thinking on it since seeing a couple of days ago, as it's not a film that really gives any major answers, and in the end I'm not sure it adds up to anything much, but the experience was intriguing.

Waking Life (2001) - animated film wherein a young man moves through a succession of dream realities, coming across a range of people, from philosophers to Before Sunrise's Jesse and Céline to...Alex Jones. At times funny and thought-provoking, at times annoyingly pretentious, it's undoubtedly innovative and, at 101 minutes, is probably just short enough to not overstay its welcome. The rotoscoping animation style adds to the surrealism of the film, which unfortunately made me feel a little queasy, but I can be very annoyingly sensitive to these things (I remember having to shut my eyes for a little bit watching Melancholia, a film I love, in the cinema, because of the von Trier shaky-cam).

I'm sorry. I really can't cop this Michael B. Jordan bullshit. He cannot win! He was lucky to be nominated, Plemons Bugonia performance clears him easily.

I'd love Leo to somehow win, Timmy deserves it too - don't get me started on the weird pile on. It's mass psychosis on x right now.

It's annoying, I feel like a w***er because Sinners is a good solid movie. It's just not close to OBAA, Marty Supreme, Bugonia or Sentimental Value. I'm not sure what I'm missing!

I'm not sure if I'm showing my age but the rate of which I like modern movies is astonishingly low. I'm going through my reviews and I can't find much post 2010 that I would consider 'must watch' in the same calibre as the must watch movies we all know.

My top ones are

The Rip
The Menu
Shutter Island
Enemy
Predestination
Source Code
The Gift
A Different Man
Inception
Prisoners
The Intouchables
Her
The Invisible Man

As much as I love these movies, theyr'e hard to comapre to movies pre 2000.

I always recommend people watch Enemy and The Intouchables

Plemons a good call. I liked Sinners but felt last half was ordinary. 16 noms is crazy.

Reinsve for best actress for me although Buckley seems an absolute certainty for wailing on cue.

I'm in agreement. Best actor is very open but I just tried to picture the "narrative" with my predictions. Wagner Moura would be a worthy winner too, ditto Timmy. Haven't seen Ethan Hawk's movie.

Just to clarify, I agree more about it's unfortunate about what happened to Timmy, I liked him being the favourite. I'm not nearly as mad as you about the love for Sinners haha. It's a cool genre movie with ideas and Oscars have historically been lame about that.

I also enjoyed the MBJ performance tbh, even if its not the best in slate.

Best Picture would be wild though.

I like all five Best Actor nominees and would broadly be happy for any of them to win, but the ridiculous Chalamet shit has me going for him.

Just people desperate to find things to get outraged about.
Kind of like the hate for Zegler

I only just found out the scenes with Willem Dafoe were shot in triplicate, where he played the role as if he knew Bateman was guilty, innocent or just suspicious.

During editing a combination of the three were used to confuse and unsettle the audience.

Jaws (1975)
I freaking love this film, largely due to childhood memories of staying up way too late and watching this alone in the dark way too young.

Three things always strike me upon a re-watch
1) forgetting that half the movie is on the boat
2) Robert Shaws performance is mesmerising
3) the ending sucks

How many times has that quote been referenced in other movies. Truly iconic
