Disappointing game. Adelaide deserved the win I thought. Feels like we’re stuck between mitigation and initiation in our game plan. Early bye may be a good thing. Go Pies!!!!!

Club needs to get serious about its key position stocks in the off season. Such a disadvantage. How is our only capable back up key defender a guy still recovering from ACL surgery.
All 3 key forwards are laugh out loud bad. Might as well pump games into West like RIchmond do with their key forwards from the same draft.

It’s actually worse as McInnes isn’t even proven in defence. Has hardly played that position and yet posters think of him as if he is a 100 game veteran. One thing I’m sure of is he is in the last chance saloon.

Our negligence in not investing in recruiting quality a grade KPD and KPF is coming home to roost sadly.

Thoughts:

Forwards
  • 10 years and counting without a proper key forward…..yikes
  • not sustainable to have to manufacture unique ways to score every week for years in end. We need a proper forward.
  • absolutely killing our smalls like Schultz and Elliott, kicking it above their head, against multiple key defenders.

Midfield
  • When you are slower to the ball 9/10 contests, it’s going to be hard to win.
  • they toyed with us in midfield with 2 workhorses (Berry, Peatling).
  • the amount of times a crows player picked up a loose ball and walked it out was scary

Defence
  • did ok to hold the dam wall in the first half
  • end of the day, if your key backs are undersized/inferior, it’s going to be hard to hold up over the course of the game.

In Summary
  • thank god we didn’t trade out our 2026 first rounder
  • havnt loved the strategy of topping up but Houston, Schultz and Perryman have been in our top 5 players the last 2 weeks
  • our issues revolve around the development of the players we have drafted.

Going forward
  • Persist with Steele, he is a player, reminds me of a quicker Sam Dwyer
  • West is a lock to come in, better than any of McStay/Membrey/Buller, wouldn’t even be against bringing in both of Steene and West, can’t be much worse.
  • Play kids, with a bias on pace. Persist with Allen for a few weeks, bring in Harrison,
Agree with the majority of this. I can’t agree on Allen. Has been absolutely awful. His stats to 1/2 time were 1 possession, 1 tackle and -3 metres gained.

I just don’t get what anyone sees in him? Is it because he was a highish draft pick? He’s never had a break out game, but t hen you look at young Roan Steele who has had a much bigger impact in a short period of time and looks to have a future.

I'm not liking the pants off vibe.

I'm putting them back on, not happy.

We don’t win 23 without him. His goals in the qualifying and prelim were crucial.

That being said, seems to have 0 confidence.

Either get him behind the ball or drop him.

I fear he may be too damaged mentally

The combination of:

  • Missing the Premiership
  • Constant injuries
  • Being dropped last year

I think has just completely sapped him of any confidence or willingness to fight

As much as it pains me to say it, I suspect he might be done

Nothing personal but Long is woeful. Cost us about 4 goals today.
Loopy handballs are going to be the end of me. One of them nearly killed Nick today. Same goes for 20m backwards handballs.
We have a lot of one-paced players that would have a good 2km time, but is useless for the modern game.
Why does Naicos do that inside-out right foot kick and not use his left? His dad was a beautiful kick on his left. Round out your kicking Nick, you are too straight up and down the line. Generally our kicking skills are really bad, but that's more a criticism of the whole competition becoming an athlete's game. The pure footballer of the 70s and 80s is dead. Same goes for the whole spectacle of the game, not a fan anymore.
The short kicking chipping game out of the backline a la Brisbane is ill conceived. It's simply not going to work for us.
Quick, decisive, instinctive decision making is what we should be training. Forwards should be doubling back then hitting up at the ball carrier. All this should be automatic.
Liked Houston, Schultz, Cameron today. Our psychology looked down, too scared to take the game on. We should be bossing games at the G against interstate teams, and if not we should be going down guns blazing not this meek scared stuff.
Let's see some of the kids next few weeks.
The umps can GAGF.

Frustrating night. Had our moments especially in the 2nd and last quarter, but they were few and far between.

Our forward line needs a rebuild. The current set up isn’t working.

The two 50m penalties in the last quarter killed our momentum.
I don’t think any forward line would work with that sort of delivery. Our midfield is lacklustre, we were smashed in contested ball in key areas of the ground, giving Adelaide quality forward 50 entries.

I still think our key priority is a gun on baller.

Our intercept game down back was non existent with Howe and Moore out, that didn’t help our ball kivement either.

A really concerning performance, we did win many positions tonight.

God it took me ten minutes to come up with that meaningless sentence😵‍💫. I need a bye already. Bring back the dare and flair please Fly.

Haven't had that dare and flair since 2023. Don't think it's coming back.

I haven’t snuck away, so I’ll have my assessment.

They were red hot switched on and we never really met it. They beat us first touch and on the spread.

That’s it. Not shitting my pants. We need to do better though.

I went not really knowing what to expect from this game.....Was always a game we were going to struggle to win with the lack of height in defence.....We lost the game in the middle...their midfielders always seemed to be on the move whereas ours looked flatfooted at the centre throw ups.......I thought the defence did an admirable job in spite of the way their mids waltzed the ball out of the centre. Our forward line looked stagnant whilst Buller and Mcstay were down there......We looked much more dynamic in attack when we went small. Yes the umpires were atrocious....But what does anyone expect?
They killed our momentum in the last in a game we didnt deserve to win....Onto the bye...refresh ,regroup....

We have a few holes to plug.

I think down back we were 1 tall short - that would have allowed IQ to play more an intercept role. Or Houston or Cochrane had he played. IQ was fighting out of his weight division tonight.

A gun midfielder would definitely help. Butters would be a dream scenario. I don't think Humphrey necessarily fills that void as he is more a hybrid.

I am hoping Anderson can be an upgrade on Long. But that is not a given.

I probably underestimated the loss of Checkers tbh. I was fuming with the Prelim BUT seeing our forward line without him, makes me appreciate him more. He really was an unsung hero. The way he put his body on the line. His ability to stay in a contest. But also his set shot goal kicking was pretty good. Checkers you could envisage kicking 5 goals in a match. At the moment I have ZERO belief that McStay, Buller or Membrey could kick 5 goals in a match.

I think the Crows next match will tell us a lot - they are playing the Bulldogs. If the Crows were to win that then maybe tonight won't look as bad.

I don't want to watch the replay at all... but really were the frees as bad as they seemed at the ground? The lack of frees paid to holding our players, but then 50m penalties for... what?!? And the reversal of Sidey's free was insane.

Not ignoring the shiteness of our centre clearance work. It was awful.

But we kept them to a 13 pt margin so really don't see Crows as a major threat without our A-grader backline.

Frustrating night. The Crows were too good for us in key moments and deserved the win so there's no complaints there.

The forward line mix of McStay, Membrey and Buller just isn't working. One goal between them last week against St Kilda and only a goal between them again tonight. Elliott's even struggling with this mix as well, and hasn't seemed like his energetic self.

I've lost faith in McStay. Poor decision maker with ball in hand and has very little impact if he's not dominating aerially. Membrey is a reliable goalkicker but drifts in and out of games far too often. Buller's still in an adjustment phase so willing to cut him slack, but he needs to start producing something soon or he'll be playing reserves soon enough.

Outside of N Daicos, our midfield isn't a strong suit either. Completely dominated in stoppages for much of the third quarter when the Crows got a run on and piled on the goals in quick succession. Further to that, our forward 50 entries especially in the first quarter were abysmal.

I actually thought our defence held up reasonably well given the lack of talls outside of Frampton. Obviously losing Moore and Howe impacts us adversely on the height front, but it's also affected us in relation to not having our usual fast transition game from the back half as these two usually start that chain.

The umpiring left a lot to be desired. The two 50m penalties in the final quarter killed our momentum. Really don't like the new interpretation of the stand rule. Lacks common sense and seems to have killed our loophole tactic of standing 5m behind the mark as we used to do in previous years.

A lot of supporters are understandably disappointed, but it would be unwise to write off the season already.
