The ones that have to watch it would be Berry, ANB, Pedlar and Cook if you wanted to fit the 4 in

I think ANB is safe. He on field leadership has been very good.

Cook should be given a fair go in his new position and now Pedlar is fit, he should be given a fair go to show his worth

Not disagree with you as the selectors will have a tough job with the ins and outs.

Yep its a case of having to leave good players out

If selection is so tight that we have...say...26 in our best 23, we'll a horses for courses approach might work.

Weather, oppo strengths and weaknesses, likely oppo game style, internal management of load etc might make some selections justified rather than just a set 23 who have to adapt each week.

We've all seen many of our players fatigue late in the season. Surely widespread management helps in getting the best team possible in September.

I think the fitness experts agree that peak fitness can only be maintained for a short window of 4-8 weeks. Given that, I hope we assess our fitness in September and then work backwards to today. Strategic management of the squad is worth more than just getting the best 23 each week.

It might end up exactly like last year...

I agree with you. Hit peak fitness and then tapper off. Hopefully around September and we play 3 or 4 outstanding finals.

I have a feeling Essendon will get desperate to land someone and throw out a offer to Bailey that will blow our current one out of the water.

If so, good luck to them.

They already have the biggest offer on the table by a margin.

The issue is Bailey can make more money than at the Lions & still play for a likely finals team.

I'm fine with it if we get Bailey.
There’ll probably be a surprise target that comes up in August too, a la Ah Chee/ANB/Peatling

Hopefully it’s a half back, would be nice to get a Laird/Hinge upgrade (if we’re certain about playing Cumming/Cook on the wing)

We've been good at keeping those cards close to our chests under this board and footy dept

Maybe. If Bond doesn't work out might be better to find a back pocket and have Michalanney freed up more.

Nobody who's a star or wants to win will be going to Essendon, doesn't matter how much money they offer.

Essendon will be be where B graders go to get a good pay day because they have to pay 90% of the cap, it where we should have shipped Laird off to. They clearly need some experience and standards. Imagine how many chip scab possessions Laird could get at Essendon.

Club?

If we think Max can be a 22+ disposal guy off half back, sure. Though Max hasn’t really shown consistent promise of that kind of potential so far, even with Bond in the side

The longer this goes on I feel Bailey is likely to leave. Brisbane would have known the SA clubs and others will be throwing money at Bailey. Feels odd that they haven't signed a contract extension. Maybe they were just waiting for the offers to come in. I dont see how Brisbane can afford to match us, not with the Ashcrofts and other star players coming through. SO you would think he is going to have to accept half to stay.

Do i truly think he is going to leave...who knows? odds on probably 80-20 he stays. While that contract remains unsigned at Brisbane the door is ajar.

Helps that he has won a couple of flags with them too so no unfinished business so to speak. If he leaves for big money he has given them great service and success
