How much is too much to throw at Butters?
8 yrs 12mill?
It’s all relative I guess

If we have the coin in the next few years and think we can front load the contract so we can offset it towards the end of the contract to time the rise of guys like Lalor who will need to be paid decently down the track I have no issue

He’s probably exactly the type we need, hard nosed, leadership and a natural accumulator of the ball

Great find tiger_tough...Here's what Kenny said about it...He might do Director of Coaching for free...! :D

“Don’t have to pay me”: Why Richmond job is appealing to Hinkley

By Andrew Slevison

You return to coaching next year and you get the choice of taking the Carlton or Richmond job on a five-year deal at $1 million per year.
That was the hypothetical put to Ken Hinkley.

The former Port Adelaide coach had zero hesitation with his answer.
“You nearly don’t have to pay me to take Richmond,” said Hinkley swiftly on SEN’s Sportsday.
But don’t worry Adem Yze, Kenny is not after your job. He was merely professing his love for what your club has done.
The Tigers did narrowly lose their Round 1 clash with the Blues but that did not dampen Hinkley’s enthusiasm for Yze’s emerging outfit.
He is a fan of the rebuild after a successful three-flag era. They allowed established contracted players to leave in exchange for a suite of draft picks which they’ve used over the past few years
“If you want a model to rebuild (on), and how to do it…,” Hinkley said on SEN’s Whateley when expanding on his Tigers comments.
“They’d won three flags so when these players came up that other clubs had interest in - whether it be Daniel Rioli, Liam Baker and Shai Bolton - they just cashed in at the right time.

“But they also knew when the good draft was coming. Everyone knew that was a great draft and I was really passionate about that draft, I watched them all really closely.”
The draft Hinkley speaks of is of course the 2024 edition in which the Tigers had eight picks in total, six being inside the top 25.

Names like Sam Lalor, Josh Smillie, Taj Hotton, Jonty Faull, Luke Trainor and Harry Armstrong are the ones with the responsibility of taking the club forward and that is a compelling and exciting situation in the mind of Hinkley.
“The talent was there, you just had to be brave enough to go there. Now, if you’re not that club who hadn’t won three flags in a row, it’s a really hard sell,” he continued.
“But of course Richmond had won three flags. So they kept the amount of senior experience they needed to keep it ok and to help coach young players which is really important.
“Their rebuild is fast-tracking, I can guarantee you. They are going to be powerful pretty quickly, again, with the talent that I’ve seen. Last Thursday I thought, ‘Wow, this is pretty promising, this group already’.
“But the courage to make it happen and more importantly to have all the information about what’s on the landscape, ‘This is a great draft, we’ve got to be big and we’ve got to be into it’.
“You’ve got to know the draft and you’ve got to hit it at the right time.
“Richmond: tick, tick and (for) courage, tick.”
The Tigers have a major test this Saturday when they host their premiership coach Damien Hardwick and the slick Gold Coast Suns at the MCG.
Nobody outside of Punt Road Oval expects them to win, as long as the Tiger cubs keep building momentum so the rebuild can continue moving forward.

Now lets not take this and think a few hidings here and there are behind us and when they happen (which they will) we lose our minds. Still lots of hard work and luck needed.

Kids need games into them.

Still good players and good trades to draft and bring in.

We are a few years off yet but we couldn't have set better foundations.

I even think the club could but together a very good pitch
We would have the money to match anyone else and sell the profile of the rebuild

He won’t be walking in at ground zero and if everything goes right we could be contenting in 3 - 4 seasons time
He’s still young enough that a few tough years wouldn’t be an issue if the club can sell the vision, where we are in it and how and why they think he would move the needle for us

Should get Kenny in a director of coaching too. Butters loves him.

Getting Butters would bring the rebuild forward two years.

Agree got to shoot our shot

No doubt he will have some tempting offers…
Dogs (obviously) and the Cats would be the ones that would interest him imo

Pies will have a crack but feel they will be chasing King harder because they desperately need a key forward and they don’t pop up as often as mids

You'd guess that Ken isn't alone in those inside the clubs in what they about what we have done. Potentially crushed it. Just get the guys fit and we'll see. Gotta say early days he 2025 draft looks pretty solid too. Touch wood

dunno about crushing it. Bo Allan looked alright on the weekend despite any suggested go home risks

As Butters rocks up to the club for our pitch we have Kenny's "you wouldnt even have to pay me to coach Richmond" video grab on loop in the main waiting room.

Would be totally up to that. I would hope we have at least had talks with him.

Can’t see us getting him for less than 2mill a season, no chance at 1.5mill.

Did see Ralph and some other HS reporter had us at 4 on Butter list of clubs. Though it felt more like we were 1st of the clubs that had no chance. Dogs, Cats and hawks were the 3 contenders.

It probably depends on whether Port will match the $ (which is likely) and then ask those top 3 clubs to pony up...They won't have draft picks, so you're looking at straight swaps for Ed Richards, Max Holmes and Jai Newcombe...They'll say no...
That's where the bottom sides might be able to come in...

Hawks have a bunch of 2nds from memory and I think all 3 clubs will be able to offer 2 future firsts and at least 3 firsts all up.

Port have Cochrane this year and Salopek and Pilot next year or year after who are already projected as top 5 guys (though we’re miles out), with the price rise on bids securing all 3 might be the best result Port can hope for out if this.

I don’t see Butters going to a club that’s not competing next year so basically rules out the majority of the others.

Good points, I was just thinking from the point of view - even their future picks are going to be high numbers…It’s not as attractive as ready-made stars, which Port will definitely need (they need more now)…It also depends on how easy they want to make his path…To the Bulldogs is the most likely…But we should also make ourselves known to Zak…If we haven’t already (hopefully)…We’ve got the cap, and we’ll have the higher picks…

Hinkley gez we're moving forward or backwards even for Butters which is ridiculous. Get someone proven and done that with premiership experience in coaching.

Butters is a gun but overrated as he can’t handle a tag
