I think I'll wait after seeing reviews and get Ghost of Yotei instead.

Just think a patch or two could do this game wonders after seeing impressions online.

I think that's a pretty sound decision - if it's successful you will be playing a much better game than the early adopters.

Why people feel the need to rush into games is beyond me? This game is massive and will obviously need some patching so not sure why people want to play it day one? Like I genuinely can not even think of one good reason you need to play it that early?

I get this and I was going to do that as well but I also needed something to play so bit the bullet, happy to guinea pig.

Reviewers having to rush through a game like this just to get a review out would impact scores a bit.
Its true why I would never work as a game reviewer for a company your under the pump to beat the game before the deadline

The only thing I keep an ear out for these days is performance. I don't care what some nerd thinks of a game. I realised I missed when all had to base a decision on was a column in a magazine and maybe the box art. These days we have an abundance of videos from every Joe blow with 2 followers and 37261737474872 reviews that by the time you get through them all to make an "informed decision" you've sucked half the magic out of experiencing a new game. If a game looks like it's something I'd be into I just take the plunge. Sure, I've bought my share of duds that could have been avoided but I've also played some absolute bangers that I otherwise wouldn't have if I based my decision on others who may not only be into different games than me but also play them differently.

Figured I'd share this here but some may have seen it.

We gave it a 5.5/10, which has clearly set The Gamers off (our Facebook comments section has been going wild today). People focus too much on the number, rather than the words behind it, and somehow forget that reviews are just one person's opinion. If you're excited, great, play it for yourself.

Our podcast goes live tomorrow where the reviewer talks a bit more about it. We did a preview podcast ep a couple weeks ago with Skill Up and generally with a preview you hope it comes good, but there were concerns. Unfortunately we didn't like it in the end, and now we must carry the cross to our crucifixion.

A good read, and kudos for not being swayed by surrounding noise - journalistic integrity is always appreciated by those of us that aren't rabid children about video games.

Going to be polarizing game how were the first few hours? the guys at kinda funny games reckon you'll get bored by the 20-30 hour mark of the game

I didn't review it personally, but I know that our reviewer said it wasn't fun first few hours (or the whole game really haha)

FightinCowboy - "some of the best fun I've had in this game has been straight up like, I'm going to get baked and wander around the map in the mountains for three hours and see what I uncover" 😂
I think this will be the best part about the game just get lost in the world for hours I did that with RDR 2 and BOTW

It's just disappointing that everything else seems complex and convoluted mess ie; combat, inventory management, puzzles, game systems etc

Only way to heal is by cooking and grinding for ingredients which doesn't help you that much that's going to annoy a lot of people hopefully it gets patched where it's less tedious and time cosuming

I've only clicked on three "reviews" in my Youtube feed of channels that I generally align with and only flicked through them in order not to spoil too much of the discovery for myself. They all said the same thing, same complaints about the same control aspects, the same bugs, same things about the story, the same opinions on the early game, yet all said the same thing about the sandbox and how it was their favourite thing. Two said buy now despite issues, one said wait until issues are fixed.

Nothing about this sounds complex to me yet. I'm hoping there is a learning curve because there are enough mind numbing open world action games already. Of course it can be unnecessarily complex but if it's typical of an MMO then it's something I'm already accustomed to. So far I think pick up and jump being on the same button is going to annoy me but will I find it more infuriating than trying to climb through a window instead of climbing around it in circles in any AC game.

Yeah I ended up stopping/skipping chunks of reviews as with a game like this you don't want to know too much.

Last review when I stopped altogether was an Aussie constantly whinging about "im going to a lot of comments about git gud".

Miss the feeling of leaving Los Santos for the first time in GTA San Andreas, or arriving in Mexico in RDR.

Acknowledge that it's probably going to have some paint points and not perfect but happy to deal with those. Also get why people don't want to jump in first.

The more I've read, this does not sound very good. Content loaded but very shallow i.e. Assassins Creed. MMO time sink seems apt, which for some people probably sounds great but for us middle aged time poor people sounds awful 😅

Will be waiting for the 50% off and passage of time to give it a go.

Yeah just minor things like controls and systems I guess. Fmd.
