I think the AFL is a party to every playing contract, i.e., contracts must be signed by the player, the club, and the AFL.

Maybe it just got stuck on someone's desk when portfolios were shuffled from Kane to Swann, because the league office isn't actually very well run?

I have trouble imagining what terms or clauses we could have got wrong, or why the AFL would just sit on them for a couple months instead of batting the contract back to us

Here is a coach taking ownership of the loss, as a whole team failure, which includes coaches. I like the way he responded on SEN when accused of the same thing ... "You dont know what I actually said!"
