I’m just tired of Carlton making the wrong decisions and then trying to rectify things belatedly, when the moment has passed and we’re in the middle of paying the price.

I’m becoming disengaged because of it.

I feel you mate. Hopefully with the off field acquisitions of Wright and Davies this current phase of the list build (whatever the path we take may be) yields better results.

Now that it’s clear a flag is no where in sight Why not let them go and try their luck elsewhere?

Cripps is a captain he isnt going anywhere.

Personally wouldn’t be against trading him out if we were to go down the pretty much near full rebuild path because we believe we won’t get there with the core of the list we have now.
From my perspective I just don’t rate him as highly as others, hence the prickle at the “deserving of a premiership” things.
Once again, on my balance of scale assessment, he hasn’t met with my expectation of where Carlton had placed him from a draft pick, salary, output perspective.
I believe him a selfish footballer whom hasn’t been the leader in the backline I expected him to become.
I think Dean will be that person within the next 12 to 24 months

Most quality players would only wish to go to quality teams who do not have quality 1st round picks so the probability of this happening is very low.

I'm not sure we can go scorched earth rebuild if we keep flip flopping with our strategy every summer. Defense first heading into 23, transition and turnover into 24, defense into 25 and transition into 26. With this sort of clarity it's no wonder our list make up is less than ideal.

Agree we owe him nothing. The club doesn’t owe any player anything. Last time I checked they get well payed to play for us. The only group who the club owes a debt to are the supporters who pay for memberships and pay to go to games each week.

Druggies 1st pick will be top 4, no way they're giving that up for a 29 yr old kpf when they're rebuilding.

Let's put it this way, a contender might be willing to give up their 1st and their future first... but those will be two late 1st round picks... and you know how it works... we'd need to send a 2nd rounder back.

Need to move away from "1st round pick" talk, pick 1 and pick 18 are very different... but they're both 1st round picks...

I think around pick 8 in total value for him is best we can hope for, jmo.

That is a different story particularly for Humphrey, l would be pursuing him if he is keen to return to Melbourne.

Agreed he has been and still is a great player for us and I don’t think he should be traded at all.

It does look like the 2015 rebuild has failed but I really hope we heed the mistakes and do not cut too deep.

A great player covers the deficiencies of other defenders that don’t have the same level of capability, don’t think Weitering does this anywhere near the level of great. Don’t think he goes every time he needs to go, compare that aspect to the kids dad he plays with now, hurts a little too easily.

Baffling talk isn't it. Weiter's is an absolute gun and has been for some time. He definitely doesn't rely on his athleticism but rather nouse and strength, I think he will age just fine.

Imagining that even in 5 drafts (let alone 2 late teens picks) we can find a relative replacement is utterly delusional.

Weiter's is a problem we deal with when he says he has had enough, and not a moment earlier.

You’re taking a very glass half-empty, simple and black and white attitude into this prospective trade

I think we would negotiate salary payment rather than giving good picks back.

But even so, if we ended up with a pick in the top 15-18, that’s a good result. We should have a young, promising kid, instead of a player who will 100% not be there when we’re meaningfully competitive again. A 1-1 for H is acceptable, anything more than that is a bonus. So many guns are picked between 10-20 - at least 4 of my top personal top 10 in the comp were in that range: Kozzie, Butters, Bailey, Richards.

But we don’t even have to commit to the draft, we could use the picks to find a good young senior player already.

We have to back ourselves to get it right or we may as well pack up shop.

But it’s almost a free hit anyway - it’s not costing us much by moving H on bc he won’t be there when we’re challenging again regardless.

Check out some of the players selected mid to late first round over the years.

Like I said in the other post - what are we losing by having a crack? A player who won’t be there when we’re meaningfully competitive again.

And if we can’t get a good return at the draft/trade table, then we’re screwed regardless. We can only set ourselves up for the best result - if the professional staff blow it, that’s our organisation not being good enough.

Personally, I’d rather die trying.

If a top tier club came for Weitering, it’s going to be a similar return as what we got for Charlie. We wouldn’t move his contracted butt without asking for a good young kid between 19-22 y/o plus 2 x 1sts.

Harry wouldn’t fetch anywhere near the same but you’d at least get a young kid plus a 1st and 2nd.

Not saying I’d do those trades but if we finish extremely low this year, the club would be silly not to listen to offers.

Dean, Jagga etc are born competitors and winners. They are kids, but they will drive standards much higher than we have seen imo.
