Any chance we look to use some draft currency on a Brodie Smith replacement?

Someone who can break lines and deliver by foot.

Laird is on his last legs and guys like Hinge and Nankervis are Temu versions of Brodie at best. Oscar Ryan doesn't appear to be coming on either.

Free agent Bailey and draft a player like that would be a good outcome.

Also have Long NGA not sure where he will end up.

Not a bad shout given how the game is going TBH.

I mean we could find a midfielder and play Dawson back there too.

I'd be going hard at Darcy Wilson who was likely going to be a Crow until Curtin was a chance. Speed, booming kick, one of the best endurance bases in the AFL and a real metres gained type.

Reckon cook could do this, maybe not absolute express pace but pretty decent. Not sure why we aren’t playing him there given he apparently trained there all offseason.

Any chance that Cook could become brodie smith mk 2. Uses the ball well and has poise?

Getting Bailey to come over would be a massive get. Our midfield would be so much improved. Curtin, Dawson, Bailey, Draper, Rachele, Rankine etc
There’s one proven midfielder in that list.

Players know when a team is good or it’s shit. If we are playing good footy, making finals and with the same squad who are in their prime, you’re going to think they are closer to success than a team sitting at the bottom playing shit football.

I don’t think it factors, but the overall quality of the club does, which is why Roos have struggled. And we’re not ahead of Port there. Teams go up and down the ladder yearly, he’ll be signing a 7+ year deal, ultimately the ‘this is where we’re heading’ aspect will be swayed by the other more tangible reasons. And don’t forget, our clubs won’t just be selling themselves, they’ll be identifying why the other won’t be winning flags.

If anyone thinks that players just look at last year’s relative ladder finishes, they’re miles off the mark.

It’s not just last years result, it’s the state of the list, players know who is starting a rebuild v near the end

Fair enough call.
But...
Based on his pre draft potential and his subsequent performance, is he the answer for us? I see a good player but not a star in the making.

What are your thoughts now we have a sample?

Two words

Ross Lyon.

Good answer...didn't think about that.
It's common knowledge he doesn't get on with Lyon, and he 's not Robinson Crusoe in that regard re young players.

He was the player Hamish had settled on for us before Dan Curtin became a big chance for us so we rated him highly in his draft year...only 20 y.o. now

Not convinced we will have the trade capital for both he and Sanders though

I'd imagine both clubs would be wanting two firsts in return for them though
Both uncontacted come season's end so I can't see two 1sts even being in the ballpark.

20 yo, played 30-50 games, top end draft talent?
It'll be the asking price, not convinced its what they'll get though.

Wilson would be interesting to request a trade outside of Vic now though, he would have a lot of suitors here.

A few weeks ago, maybe a months or so, but someone and I cannot remember who posted it but the premise of their post was about people thinking negatively to avoid feeling disappointed, I have a feeling this is one of those times.

If you don’t believe he will come, that doesn’t get your hopes up and then you won’t be disappointed.

If our 3 firsts weren’t going cut it last year, they’re not getting any better. If he was interested in coming to us, he’d be in the 23 as we speak.

Any chance Nic Martin would want off a sinking ship ?? Not an A grade mid but a player who would add so much to our ball movement. Potentially a little forgotten about due to his knee injury ?? Unfortunately not out of contract until the end of next year.
They'd surely drive a high price for a guy like that who actually looks good amongst the garbage.
