Coach Carlton under Voss

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

He's coaching like Matthew Knights. No defence, all out attack midfield, get a lead and try and defend it. No long term plan whatsoever, just survival. You can't do a Richmond and gut the list, it's too late.

I would like a lot more from these blokes because remember apparently Curnow, TDK, Silvagni etc were culture killers and Curnow in particular just by removing his presence and making our team quicker and less superstar centric they would surprise everyone.

What a load of nonsense that was.
I remember reading on here that Carlton keeping Voss was going to be similar to when Richmond kept Hardwick.
The forward line was also going to be more balanced, dynamic and mobile by replacing Curnow with Hayward and Ainsworth.

A lot of people seemed to buy into it, especially after the pre season games.

When Carlton have played well this year (usually first halves but yesterday mainly that 3rd quarter) it's been a better level of football then what they have offered over the last 18 months despite the Curnow/TDK/JSOS losses. Their issue is sustaining it usually after HT which seems to be clearly a mental issue at this point.

Absolutely!

Wright knows this. He needs a great Head of Football, terrific List Manager and then to find a competent coach. Sure sacking Voss would relieve the pressure on the club, but Wright still has to be able to solve their problems with better solutions. Carlton are probably a seven year project. Who is that ambitious, with TD19 scheduled to come into the comp at the end of next year, that they want any of those three positions? Well, who is competent and that ambitious, more to the point.

Pies,WC, Bombers, North, PA, Dees, St Kilda. Tigers. I'd argue Carlton has a better list at this point in time, North won that game with no ruck for the last 25mins lol what does that tell you?

The coach is a big part of said issues
This time around I think that is true. A lot of the non-football problems may have been improved at least.

On the plus side, Carlton are funniest team in the league again (until next week?). In a time of world turmoil, some normality is being restored.

Pagan, Malthouse, Swann, Cook, Wright. The hatchet job by Matheison on Swann. The perception from some board members that Swann was not up to being chief executive. The issues are far deeper than any individual. Destined to forever be a plaything for squabbling billionares.

Voss spoke about giving his players "nourishment" last year after a series of losses. He is a master of corporate gobbledygook. He has ran out of BS in during the press conference imo.

He is the worst coach in AFL. I never rated Carlton even in 2023, too slow and not as skilled. Voss/Blues never adapted to the evolution AFL is heading. Compare Bevo, a brilliant gameday coach, with Voss - it almost sad how clueless Voss is.

The last offseason was absolutely shambolic and not too sure how much Voss is to blame for that. It might be the worst ive ever seen because it made zero sense. They lost all seniority they needed and kept the ones they didnt

Losing TDK/Silvagni/Curdin/Curnow and literally getting zero AFL quality players (Hayward and Florent are potatoes) back meant the full rebuild has started but then in making these changes they didnt further follow through and cut deeper.

  • Hayward/Florent were utterly pointless pickups. They should have either never came or been shipped off when they did for more picks next year.
  • Retaining Nick Haynes to plonk him into the VFL makes zero sense. Just give that list spot to anyone else
  • Retaining Acres to do the same was also pointless. Id have dropped both players and went for more required options such as a small forward and some pace at HF.
  • Chesser was a stupid pickup. Didnt make it at the wooden spooners so to pick him up and plonk him into the same spot he previoously failed at made zero sense

A bit of the situation here to me is/was to clear out salary for a play at Zac Bailey, pick up the right aged experience and not those on the last legs and instead of picking up hand me downs from teams worse then them aim for those at the top.

Terrible list management has hurt them once more and everyone else gets the blame

How can we bring in Hayward and Florent and then ship them out for picks in the same trade period? Also, neither of them are potatoes. You are literally including Durdin in our losses and then discounting Hayward/Florent/Chesser as gains - it's quite bizarre.

On Acres we didn't "retain him" last year he was contracted. And Haynes has been injured which is a big reason for him starting the year in the VFL. Had a strong season last year so made sense to retain him especially with O'Farrell copping the ACL late last season.

We weren't going to be able to make all necessary list changes in one year. Not sure what you were expecting...

I’m saying Sydney ship them off and you get more picks back plus free up salary . To me Durdin is better fit and better player than Florent nowadays so would consider that a loss.

Not about making all the list changes just the right ones. Topping up by getting Hayward, Florent, Chesser while losing what you lost doesn’t and didn’t make sense

They're in the same place they have been for decades.

This is a club that's had a positive win-loss record 5 times in the last 24 completed seasons.

That's less than Fitzroy over their last 24 seasons.

Essendon have done it 8 times over the last 24 seasons.

North Melbourne 10 times!

Let that sink in!

I don’t think many would agree your list is better than the majority of this clubs. I’m one of them.

Durdin was consistently injured at Carlton and hasn't achieved half of what Florent has. The same Florent who played 130 straight games for a premiership contender.

This is like Owies all over again. When players leave Carlton their reputation really gets a significant uptick amongst opposition fans.

As for the teams.
I think its now unbearable for Carlton fans now.
No need to attend the footy now folks.
Do yourself a favour.
Do something else on weekends.

Oh rubbish.

This is the exact same crap they’ve played since 2022 under Voss. Nothing has changed.

When you see previously talented players who are missing easy handballs, disappearing for periods etc you know the coach has lost the group and the system ain’t working

I’m really happy Carlton are losing and have had 30 years of no success. When they were good (back in the day) they rorted the Salary Cap, lazily rounded up the best players from SA & WA with dodgy contracts and won flags they never deserved. They are a mid club who had a dodgy good run decades ago.

2022? I said last 18 months. Last year we played not close to the level we played at in periods of 2022-2024. The highs of this year have been better than 2025 IMO but the lows have somehow been worse with the fadeouts.
