And so it came to pass that some bloke wearing #5 from times past came out of the cave after 3 days and mystified the masses with feats of skill and mastery... the likes never seen on the paddock known as footy grounds.

Whilst never achieving the highest team success, the personal accolades rolled on.. and at one of the awards presentations he was heard to mutter these immortal words only once repeated by Obi Wan...

So here again we find ourselves wiping the chocky from the face and getting ready to witness the next installment of THE RIVALRY in footy.

Geelong V Hawthorn... so it must be Easter Monday.

It will be on.

Hawks have had 17 days to work on nuances for this one.. and Mitchel will have them ready. They will want to possess and go fast - we'll need to be ready for that.

We cannot slip over. We cannot double touch the ball. We cannot give them a sniff as they will be running forward and we aren't great at getting thw back under control.

WE can beat them but it will - as usual - require our best.

Being 3-1 vs 2-2 will be much nicer with a rough road ahead... and that road starts today.

Clark and MOC out

Bowes and Close in.

All else same.

Reckon 1 tag only with Mullin to go to Watson or Newcombe. Rucks being moblie need to make them work all over the ground as we'll prob lose the hit outs.

Get it done boys

We are 8-2 from last 10 - and they'll be wanting to change than

Hawks running 2 debutants I think....

Time to show them what pressure is really like.

Winning today would be huge for our season. We would have a great chance to go 4-1 the next week. It wouldn't surprise me if our hit rate for top 4 after a 4-1 or better start under Scott is 100%.

Hawthorn are a quality team, desperate to avenge the 2025 prelim and other recent history. Their defence is outstanding, they have plenty of forward weapons and McDonald/Moore etc will push through midfield as the attacking threats we sometimes struggle against. Newcombe is a beast - reduce his impact and you are halfway to victory.

I'll roll out my weekly line: if our 4 prime movers excel - Smith, Holmes, Miers and Mannagh - we will play good footy and be a huge chance. When these guys are off kilter, we quickly break down into a dysfunctional outfit.

Hopefully Jezza has a big game. I feel like we really need it today.

Hawks are the shorter odds according to the betting agencies. I'm not really sure why, I think we'll win by four goals.

I think the popular perception is that the Hawks have been in slightly more convincing form than us.

They've lost to GWS (ordinary team atm).
Beat the Dons easily, which is par for the course.
Beat Sydney at the G without Heeney + Gulden... Good effort, but doable.

They haven't played for 18 days.
They have some debutants today.

They might win, but I don't get why a majority of people think they are going any better than us.

50/50 with the info I have at this time of the year... Form still unfolding.

Hope we come out flying... No Danger and Stengle is a worry for our forward line.

We knocked them out of the race last year, and they'll be kinda sick of losing to us on Easter Monday.

They've had plenty of time to focus and prepare for this game. Mitchell will have them ready to jump the gun, so we'll need to be sure we don't allow them a fast start.

They're a bit thin through the middle and we've been scratchy.

It's going to be - dare I say it?? - a Close game.

On paper our midfield should beat theirs - even both at full strength I’d back ours and they’re missing two of their best four in there (Day and Mackenzie) - but their backline should get on top of our forward line.

Four of our six named forwards are pretty unknown quantities right now - Henry, Close, Martin, Wiltshire. It’s possible that one of them kicks 3-4 goals, equally possible that they each have a handful of touches and no impact which means Jezza and Neale need to try to kick a winning score against some great opponents in Barass, Sicily and Battle.

I feel like we’ll need to get 5+ goals from Mannagh, Dempsey and Miers which of course is very possible.

Also feel like we’ll really miss Stengle today. Our last two games at KP have been pretty tough and hard fought, the Crows game played in terrible conditions. A beautiful day at the ‘G against a team that plays a fairly open brand would be perfectly suited for Stengle to pop up with a handful of classy possessions that could be the difference between a win or a loss in a close game.

I don't disagree. I just think there's a perception that they're running just that little bit better than us.

It could well be a lingering memory of Scott marching in the ground to tell the players it was 'disgraceful' and 'conversations would be had'.....hello Brad.

Don't know, but I agree it's a 50/50 game today.

Interesting to note the age profile of both teams is almost identical today.

Players over 30 - Hawks 4, Cats 5.
Players 23 and under - Hawks 8, Cats 8.
