While it's great that we've thrown our hat in the ring for Butters, I believe that this is more about letting players managers know that we have money to spend, rather than legitimately trying to land him. With us likely to have a top 2 pick at this stage I feel we'd be mad to trade that away in the final draft before Tasmania starts to have an impact. We could effectively get access to 3 top 25 kids in this draft with the new rules likely to see us end up with an end of round 1 pick to go with our first 2 picks. That would give us an opportunity to really round out the young group we've put together if we can land a promising young ruck, Tanner Armstrong and another mid, which I feel will be better long term than adding Butters and trading out a number of early picks to get him.
pears wont match as we've offered looney bin dollars

How do you know this?
I thought Benny Gale wouldn't be interested in the Tassie job as he and his family were well settled in Melbourne. I was wrong.
is he commuting from burnie in an xd falcon ?

if we get butters or not, it shows that we have the money tucked away for free agents, in the next couple of years. next year if we get all of the last years recruits on the park, it will be 8 - 20-21 years old playing with maturing bodies. without a lot of afl experience but experience of the game plan, feeling comfortable at the club, strengthened etc. add butters (or Bailey etc) and some fringe experience in trades like a ruck and it will be a different team.

adding cumming, smilie, Armstrong, sims, hotton, free agent, ruck to last weeks team, makes it totally different. especially if we keep our 2026 1st pick.

also shows the club has a plan, bottom out which we have, get in talented youth and then add experience. go tigers !!!

None of Cats Dogs Hawks will be able to satisfy Port in a trade without trading out valuable players.

Their 2026 rd 1 picks are likely to fall in the late teens. Their f1's are likely to be mid 20's or later. Their f2's are near worthless.

Port will probably be looking at a comp pick around 8 in the 2026 draft. Cats, Hawks, Dogs will struggle to muster higher value than that bar trading players out.

So 2 things can happen:

1. The gaining club(say Hawks cats or Dogs) has to trade out a player or players of real value to satisfy Port, or

2. Butters goes to a club that finishes really low on the ladder, like bottom 3.
Agree.
Players have to be involved.

We give him $9m front ended over the next 3 years and only $1.2m per year the following 5, when the kids are hitting their straps.

Blair knows.

I'd rather go for Zac Bailey and Darcy Wilson. Will allow us to keep our 2 top 5 pics to add more talent.

4 possible A graders or one A+, we still need depth of talent.

i'm with this also - too many eggs in one basket spells disaster - particularly as we're witnessing our 'luck' with injuries right now!
