Literally you just stated it in the post claiming you've never stated it.
I don't follow - but to be honest I have a very low care factor if people want to take it all too seriously. As previously stated, I think some people in here just miss the point of why we waste our time in these forums in the first place.

I wonder if there are clause in his contract if he doesn’t play, with his history playing for Geelong
Eg ending his contract or not paying the full amount
Contracts are Contracts - and if you fulfill your obligations in that contract then they have to pay you

Ican remember many many years ago 1978 , Des Tuddenham the former Collingwood Capt and champ . he got appointed coach of Sth Melb . by the owner of Just Jeans ( i forget his name ) -and they had a reasonable year just missed the finals so Tuddenham had a lucrative 3 year contract .

In the preseason of 79 out of the blue Tuddenham got sacked .( Ian Stewart who had previously coached Sth Melb - he got the job again ) Tuddenham sought legal advice . and they told him just fulfill your obligations under that contract - so for the next 5-6 weeks Tuddenham turned up to Sth Melb as if he was still the coach under the contract and was trying to take training - so basically Sth Melb had 2 coaches for 5-6 weeks - it embarrassed them in the end and they paid him out in full . but he fulfilled his obligations under that contract

Can you point me to a post where I've stated that I have some mysterious ITK person telling me stuff. I think I generally reference the fact that someone's passed on what they know or what they've been told. That would be no different to the majority of posters that do similar.

Some nutters in here make out like I've tried to suggest that I've got a direct line to Steven Hocking. As I've said multiple times in the past, if people can't share stuff they've heard (regardless of the source) then what's the actual point of a forum in the first place. I don't lose any sleep if people want to take cheap shots along the way, but I do think it's a bit rich for some posters to take it all so seriously and then make it personal because they feel aggrieved in some weird way.

Spot on - and Farmer To Goggin gave you a like - and that poster a couple of years gave about 3-4 posters ( me included ) the goss on Goodwin and Melb - and im telling you it was 1000% on the money !!!!

There is a trial in some ACL injuries where there is bracing only (https://crossbracingprotocol.com/). I don't know of ANY AFL players who have taken it on in-season. We don't know what other injuries Miers has in the knee- bone bruises, meniscal, chondral- so we're all surmising. What we do know is that they will have sought the best state of the art opinions before making a final decision.
I know someone who recently did this and fully recovered from an ACL with no surgery. Not an AFL player obviously but interesting nonetheless.

That would be correct if Stengle was available

My opinion . just sick and tired of AFL players taking extended leave of absence and still being paid 1000% of their contract money - you only have to look at that Footscray player last year . totally abused the system and he is still getting paid his money

As the old saying goes . when poverty comes in the door . love goes out the window . you stop paying them they will quickly smarten up their act - like anyone in the real world has to do and does

Do any players do other things during the week bar football . like Pavlich did a couple of university degrees . Some of them do nothing and that is why they get hooked on the punt . or other problems arise

Ithink Geelong just have to back Wiltshire in ( i havent been overly impressed ) for the next 10-12 games and he might improve a fair bit

And write both Miers and Stengle off for the year - the latter has alot of talent - AA selection but he did have issues at both Adelaide and Richmond
I reckon we need to persist with Wiltshire. He has some X factor about him, is quick and uses the ball well. Just needs to gain more experience and confidence. He has shown some nice glimpses of what he can do and been close to some really great moments like that roving soccer goal that barely missed last week. Nice of Scotty to back him in again at the last press conference too.

I'm not really convinced on Wiltshire but the stocks are a bit low on small forward half players. Timing is everything and he's certainly got a window in the next few weeks to earn a regular spot.

Stengle is MIA
Close appears to have some issues we're not aware of
Miers availability looks unlikely regardless of which option the club takes

Hope the 5 year deal doesn't bite us on the arse.
With 4 years left on at least 700k i reckon.
Not sure on how the inner workings of salary/delisting/terminations work.
Fingers crossed.
The damage is minimal.

I half-agree we should persist with Wiltshire. He's got pace and a bit of scrap for a small forward, hits the ball at maximum speed which looks great when he doesn't fumble, but tends to go missing for long periods. If he can add a defensive side to his game- using his pace to hassle and terrify anyone looking to run the ball out of defence- we've got ourselves a player. But right now I think he's probably hit the wall a bit and would be better served consolidating in the VFL (and it'd be real nice if we didn't have a bye every two weeks). Who do you replace him with though? Close needs to build fitness, Stengle is absent, Miers injured. Clark's no forward; it's either inside mid or bust with him. Bowes looks our best bet right now.

Wouldn’t plan on having Miers available this season.

That’s what I’m hearing from someone well placed to know. Initial scans inconclusive but subsequent scan revealed extent of the injury.

In for surgery

I think you've missed my original point. Yes, clearly I've spoken to someone and I've said that (in my opinion) they're well placed to know. But that doesn't (or shouldn't ) need to come with some stupid level of cast iron guarantee that it's bang on the money 100% of the time. Take it for what it is and stop over-thinking it. People get told something - they pass it on. It's an internet footy forum for gods sake.

And you (and others) seem to have a weird fixation with the legitimacy of some of this stuff and take a scorched earth approach if it doesn't play out exactly as passed on. The Miers comment is what set people off more recently, and I'm standing by the fact that it's my personal opinion (and that of a few others) that he won't play again this season.

This is all getting a bit boring and repetitive. Might be time to move on - or apply some common sense

Whether he has a partial or a full ACL tear, it is more than likely Miers will not play again this season. Nobody should doubt what you said there.

Thanks Vdubs. I'm not sure why that concept is difficult for people to grasp. We're not talking about a rolled ankle, and I just can't see the club taking a risk on a high value asset like Miers. Take the medicine on a partial tear, go in for surgery (as some still think will happen) and just focus on being ready early 2027.

That's not difficult- anyone would only need to talk to a GP with interest in sport, a physio, a Sports Doc, somebody working for the club. Any of these people would proffer that opinion, as it's almost common sense, and the best scenario for Miers.

What often doesn’t get reported is the language within contracts. I can absolutely guarantee, with Stengle’s previous history, we would have included language, or clauses, into his contract that relate to off-field. Happy to pay the money for performance, but any good organisation safe guards itself against known, knowns. If it doesn’t turn around for him this year, my guess would be here is a lump sum, enjoy retirement. But the contract will be voided from his part, and salary should be back in the cap.

Back to injury news

The Cats can provide the following GMHBA Health Update ahead of their Round 7 match against Port Adelaide this Saturday.

Gryan Miers will miss Saturday’s match as the Club continues to explore the best course of action to manage his knee injury.

Geelong Cats EGM Football, Andrew Mackie said, “Following consultation with the Club’s medical team and specialists, Gryan will be on an individualised program for next couple of weeks as we assess the best path forward for the long term.”

If you post on here like 99% of us saying this and that...
But when you "fact" saying i know people who have inside info, you just bull 💩.
Just dont make things up. You know as much as 99% on here knowing nothing.

Wiltshire got to some good spots the other night, and if used would have kicked 3-4 goals. I think Cameron marked one right in front of him too, that looked to be going into Wiltshires mitts.

I would keep playing him, just get a feeling he going to kick a bag soon.

Fox dog you are now moving into “unhinged” territory.

I get that you’ve got some beef with me and that’s fine. But just move on. If you don’t like my posts or someone else’s just roll your eyes and get onto something more productive.

As for the mods on this board - wake up and stop pandering to regular and long time posters. If you think it’s ok to let people come in here and bully other posters then you need to have a rethink about whether your providing a safe place for people to come in and share personal (and respectful) opinions or thoughts.

If it wasn’t the likes of Fox Dog or Calder Daddy biting peoples heads off I do wonder whether a mod might have got off their backsides and nipped this in the bud. Disappointing

I’ve seen people get lectured for far less than these 2 individuals

Let's add bruised ego and self-inflicted wounds to the injury list.

With Stengle ... sigh. 2022 may be the only year. His health matters more.

Pity we can't list Wil White.
