Isn't that what LARS is? What ever happened to that.

Fell out of favour when it was realised that the "short term benifit" was undone due on the long term high failure rate

From an article in 2018 -

While providing fast recovery, it resulted in synthetic debris causing chronic inflammation, recurrent instability, and premature arthritis, limiting its use to elite athletes

That explains why it's no longer popular.

No Stengle in the first half of the season.

Apologies in advance if that offends Calder Daddy or Fox Dog but that's what I was told earlier.

That doesnt surprise me at all. It is interesting that the club doesnt want to just publically give a time frame though.

Yeah I've read all of that. It doesnt make sense.
Hence my silly 'possible / unlikely' take.

Its unlikely but possible. Lenny Hayes played through an entire game with an acl once.

Sam Edmund on Stengle - not training consistently, has had a fallout with ‘some of his closest supporters’, remains a ‘wellbeing and welfare concern’ rather than a football fitness issue.

Sounds like personal issues to me. We have seen how these things can go south so hopefully he does get back to football.

Thats what Luke Bevridge said last year when asked about Ugle - Hagan - there is no consistency in him turning up to training

Surely there must be clauses in the contract - you have to do the required training - like they all get that holliday break over the Xmas break

If that article is correct re the reasons for his absence - i wish an AFL club would just sack them - breach of contract , not injured and wont attend training ( like all the other players ) when requested to

There's no such clauses in the contracts and unfortunately the aflpa wields too much power with this stuff until the day the afl decides to challenge them.

Let’s see if he does actually play again this year. He’s either got ACL damage or he doesn’t.

You can’t be half pregnant
Just pack it in dude. Nobody cares that you don't actually have a connection.

They just care and keep going at you because it's backfiring on you in such a hilarious fashion. Every. Single. Time.

I'm mean come on, you can't script some of the comedic timing that's come with your 'ITK' posts lately.

The Stengle news is sad.. not necessarily unexpected I guess …leopards and spots and all that stuff.

We’ve done well as has he. Happy for him to take the rest of the year to try and get right with whatever support and processes he needs. The club seems like it’s already been there.. but if … and I say if… he’s not holding up his end of the deal commitment wise then the outcomes and contracts come into question

I hope he gets to where he needs to be as a person … and if that brings footy back then great.. but if not.. that’s ok too.. just be well and remove yourself or be removed from the club at seasons end

Miers loss is a huge one, you don't lose the assist king without it hurting unless someone else steps up and either can cover what he does (unlikely) or offers something new that offsets the loss (possible).
What the club needs to do is get him into surgery asap if it's likely ACL because the worst option would be for him to wait, not recover properly and get ACL surgery in say August, or not get the surgery and play games (probably not near his best) and do an ACL down the line.

I wonder if there are clause in his contract if he doesn’t play, with his history playing for Geelong
Eg ending his contract or not paying the full amount

The Miers situation sounds similar to Eric Hipwood’s, didn’t he play a while with a partially torn ACL?

If he gets back this year, awesome, but I hope the club makes the right decision, if it’s better to have surgery then just do it.

As for Stengle, we knew the risks when we took the gamble on him, he was AA and helped win a flag for us in 2022 so anything more is a bonus in my book. Give him the time and support he needs.

Considering he had other options when signing... I'll guess he is covered pretty good, but that is purely a guess.

But you can have a partial tear of the ACL- these can scar over and function, or, with little provocation, can completely rupture. So it's a massive decision.

If there is a tear, then surely the surgery is the best resolution IMO.

The tear can get worse and make a smaller issue a worse one I believe - depending on how it fails if and when it eventually does.

Im presuming that the smaller tear can go bang in a big way under load and make a bigger mess of an already scarred joint.
Vdubs is that a fair oberservation?

LOL. Now I trust JJ for sure. He really does have someone in the know. Sam Edmond on SEN.

There is a trial in some ACL injuries where there is bracing only (https://crossbracingprotocol.com/). I don't know of ANY AFL players who have taken it on in-season. We don't know what other injuries Miers has in the knee- bone bruises, meniscal, chondral- so we're all surmising. What we do know is that they will have sought the best state of the art opinions before making a final decision.

Can you point me to a post where I've stated that I have some mysterious ITK person telling me stuff. I think I generally reference the fact that someone's passed on what they know or what they've been told. That would be no different to the majority of posters that do similar.

Some nutters in here make out like I've tried to suggest that I've got a direct line to Steven Hocking. As I've said multiple times in the past, if people can't share stuff they've heard (regardless of the source) then what's the actual point of a forum in the first place. I don't lose any sleep if people want to take cheap shots along the way, but I do think it's a bit rich for some posters to take it all so seriously and then make it personal because they feel aggrieved in some weird way.

Literally you just stated it in the post claiming you've never stated it.
