State of umpiring

It should read if you take away the arc issue and everyone of the umpires decisions in games this yr , we have had some positive feedback from the clubs

Statements just makes the Arc guys look completely incompetent.
Say that they didn't have enough evidence, but then some old bloke at AFL house looks at the same footage and sees clear evidence.
Reckon they saw it miss the right hand and weren't even looking at the left hand.

IMO so big grain of salt, there were three points where he could have touched it.

The one where he did then after it bounced and then after it crossed the line.

The commentary box started off only showing the last two and then went to the first one.

The Arc people looked at the two most likely where he didn’t touch it and decided from there that’s how it got through.

The AFL play patrons as suckers and rather than coming out and saying we had evidence but made an error they point to a lack of evidence, which no one believes because the broadcast has evidence and they have the broadcast.

It’s a nonsense. Own the mistake, don’t find excuses for it.

I’d be pretty interested in understanding how much trust the average rank and file member had in the AFL. For me it is exceedingly low. They do not run a sport based on a concept of fair. They consistently change rules and narratives to suit their own ends and they’re basically never transparent. At best they’re conflicted at worst they’re openly hypocritical.

If their product wasn’t attached to something that I’ve loved since before it was like this I would never opt to have anything to do with a company like this.

At worst, they are completely corrupt. Their linkages to the betting agencies alone is a horrible sign.

You mean ‘ love the game not the odds’

And yet on the offical app you look at the fixture and there are the odds. Why are they there on the app? It’s not a betting app it’s a football app.

Greg Swann either believes in fairies at the bottom of the garden or he’s talking utter bullshit. The umpiring stinks.

We know what the answer is. Unfortunately he's not allowed to come out and blast the umpires for their general incompetence due to the Umpires union/association (whatever it is) then blowing things up at AFL house because they are put in a horrendous position due to weekly rule changes and the fact that doing so would nuke any remaining potential pipeline of future umpires. So instead, they make themselves sound stupid because in a round about way, it is ultimately their fault for changing the rules every week, creating areas of grey when the new rule brought in was to eliminate the grey and just being overall shambolic. No other sport in the world changes rules on a yearly basis, and that's not including all the tweaking and clarifications and adjustments that come throughout the season.

Destroying the integrity of a once fairly simple set of game rules that was straight forward and relatively easy to officiate. But oh no, we live in a world now and the AFL is right up there, "any change and all change must be better". Yep, you forgot about the law of unintended consequences. Dilllon and his band of merry men and women are bit by bit unravelling our once great game.

Classic AFL. Admit the clearest crap and then make it sound like the only issue, regardless of weeks of diabolical field umpiring. ‘This is the only issue and we are fixing it’.
HR departments do this shit, get complaints, ask if there is anything else, then make the lesser issue the ‘problem’.

Thanks for posting that GR. I avoid footy talk shows like the plague but I thought that was fine.

The stand rule is an abomination.

The ARC is an abomination.

The ability of umpires to choose what they pay and what they ignore, further exacerbated by their ability to justify paying opposite free kicks for a single event on a whim is an abomination.

Garry Lyon the voice of reason @ piss of the shit stand rule the worst in history.
Garry knows it sux it goes against everything the game stands for. Players and umpires have no idea what it is or how it works

I only watched the stats, first time I have seen these. If I had seen these bullshit decisions I fear for my tv (which is the reason I don’t)it would have ended up in the valley @report corruption . Nothing to see there lol Graeme said it right 1777287806778.webp

3 incorrect disposals. Zero calls our way.

You can’t tell me that in their ear pieces they aren’t getting told which ones to pay or not, it can’t be that inconsistent by chance, especially with 4 field umpires on the ground.
