Geelong hide young players in lower regional leagues and then pick them up as rookies or late draft picks for basically no draft capital cost. Stewart basically told clubs he wasn’t prepared to go anywhere other than Geelong. Miers and Dempsey were the same.
Marcus Herbert and James Ballantyne look ok too

I doubt they're calling an emergency board meeting on the night of the game...

Talk about knee-jerk... it's not like they've dished up anything less than expected when they decided to keep Voss last year...
What do you mean, Priestley posted it in the board's group chat.

It would be insanity to sack Voss this week and bring in a bunch of kids that will get mauled by Brisbane. Do it the week after.
If done on Monday and the players go up a day or two early, might be good bonding experience. Complicated by the fact the reserves game is on the Saturday morning in Casey, so we're unlikely to take up a big squad.

It also helps when you can bring in players like the Ashcrofts, Fletcher, Andrews, Coleman, Gallop, Marshall and Hipwood for next to nothing. But I do agree — bringing in an experienced winner wouldn’t hurt.

Yes, they were assisted with the f/s and academy players, but developing them with leaders like Hodge, Birchell and Gunston turned them into professional and well rounded players.

Voss was always gone, but we are arriving at the point where keeping him much longer will hurt current players psychologically and harm our chances of picking up any other players.

Leave it too late and nobody knows what's happening next year and people get anxious.

If Voss goes this week it would be great to get a head start on other teams needing a new coach. Skipworth, Kelly, Giansiracusa, lade, Enright, Hickmott. I’d love a combination. Of Kelly and Enright.
Think that’s a very valid point.

Whether it’s this week or soon - if we plan on moving him, which seems likely, there is value moving first so we get the jump on the available candidates.

By the time another team moves, we could already have our preferred candidate locked in.

I should say, I don't think sacking Voss will fix everything, but I do think that it's a big part of resetting the club

I tend to think that after a series of meetings with Wright and the suits upstairs, he'll actually 'resign' so he can at least go out with dignity and his head held high - which he thoroughly deserves. I have enormous respect for the man regardless of his coaching abilities.

The message will be that he's done as much as he can with the current crop of players, and it's time to give someone else the opportunity to lead this group going forward.

Bolton still upsets me. We cut too deep and didn’t give him the support he needed once Neil Craig left. Sliding doors moments.

I don’t really think they cut too deep, given what we had.
You could argue Gibbs, but he wanted out for multiple years and we got a huge deal.

But Craig leaving and not being replaced was absolutely the sliding doors moment.
I think Bolton was a good choice, but with no support he went off the rails in 2019. And Teague was a terrible senior coach.

If all of this about Voss is accurate, which im sure it is, then we should be looking at the Brisbane model.

Bring in some experienced, mature leaders like Hodge, Birchall and Gunston, and let our younger players learn and grow alongside them. Brisbane has shown exactly how effective that approach can be.

We also need to appoint a captain based on genuine leadership qualities, not just because they’re our best player.
Problem is we have the experience, it’s their output & leadership that is missing. That’s on the players performance.
McGovern, ZW, Saad, Hayward, Florent, Pittonet, Cerra that
Newman in particular & Haynes (last legs?) can offer this. Ainsworth having a dip. Hewett but has his deficiencies with our list

Problems stem from before.

Then our own in Cripps,
Do you not think the evidence is there that Voss can’t coach. He failed the first time in Brisbane and left them in disarray.

What’s he done in 5 years at Carlton that you instead blame the players for. Have a look around other at other teams and see how many are thriving at other clubs. Hell, even Cory Durdin is becoming an elite small at Port. Would Charlie have stayed if we moved on Voss last year?

Can you point out a game where Voss has been tactically brilliant to get us a win?
Durd’s was predominantly injured with us and is still inconsistent with low possession games. Nailing his goals helps. And his kicking to a leading player (which he was our best too for a while) was back.

Being fit adds a lot to ones’ game/ability.

This in not a rumour but a Tarantino-esque alternative fiction reality in my head

Voss has been told that he will be sacked. There will be a press conference tomorrow or Tuesday

Carlton have been in discussion with Brisbane for a few weeks and Voss will be given a special farewell at the Gabba to acknowledge and celebrate his career at both Bris and Carlton

Voss says he doesn't want to coach but is happy to farewell with a lap around the Gabba...or, maybe he decides to coach one more time. Who knows...it's just a flimsy script in my head :)

Graham Wright has been up the club for 18-19 months. Other than his recent bumbling Hollands interview, has he actually been seen or heard from? Or even more so, has he actually made any difference of note?
CEO may be out of depth as a role, like senior coaching is to Voss. I wonder how much of this path we’ve tread in regards to retaining Voss etc has been driven and advised by Cook. Tactically current coach and CEO may be deficient.

Reckon we could do worse than trading out Weitering and bringing in someone like Dane Rampe as a UFA for a year or two.

Jaymie Graham and Matthew Boyd are two coaches that could be good to interview, if they are interested. Both rated well and have fresh ideas on game plan and ball movement.

Get James Kelly and bring a couple of his VFL players with him

Voss will not be leaving football after us

Absolutely will land somewhere else

Fair questions

I think that Wright and the Club have held their course well up So an “emergency” board meeting needs to happen to discuss Voss leaving & when it will happen?

Surely this has been discussed continuously over the past 6 months.

It’s in Wrights’ hands - I have to trust he has a plan on Voss’ successor & how it will be managed over time.

Can supporter unrest & media pressure short circuit his strategy - unless it’s ready to go, let’s hope not.

Our pain is brimming week to week, watching each train wreck.

Imagine being an interim coach, taking this on now, with a trip to Brisbane coming up…

As much as it’s shyte being a CFC supporter now, I only hope Wright holds his course.
I think that the Club and Wright have held their course well up to now and I'm sure that it's enabled him to map out a plan for the future . If the effort had held then I think Voss would have survived until the end of the season.

That level of performance yesterday was horrible and if something doesnt change we'd be likely to cop some huge beatings coming up which will do nobody any good. I dont think he's reacting to the noise coming from supporters and media (I'd be very disappointed in him and the club if they were). it's just time.

Whatever shortcomings the coach may have the players also bear responsibility for where we are, there will be big list changes at the end of the year.
