Jagga/Grlj > Clug/Cumming, with $6k spare. Leaves me with only two rooks left on field (McAndrew and Cumming), with a heap of money left on the bench for upgrades (Cook, Murdock, Blamires, Dev)

Planned trades over the next few weeks are:
  • R10: Cook/Murdock > Bont/rook
  • R11: McAndrew/Blamires > Gawn or English/rook
  • R12: Only have 3 R12 bye premiums so don't need to cull any this round. In an ideal world would use Sellwood/Dev/Retschko for an early 23rd premo 🤞

Hi All,

Currently ranked about 1500, and have $5k in bank.

Trades are looking like Grlj to Cumming and then maybe Jai Serong to Newman.

However, I really want McCluggage. I can’t seem to work out how to get him into my team through DPP.

Any ideas?
You are short on defenders, so only way i see it working is if you skip out on Cumming.

You could:
  • Grlj to red dot ruck (move ZZ to def)
  • Grlj to def rookie (there's W Edwards, but wouldn't be too keen on him)
  • Watkins to a cheap rookie (might need a debut)
  • Lombard to T Murray (not sure this gives you enough)

No viable def rookies is annoying as I need to move Grlj on. Maybe Busslinger if you could get a month out of him before Lobb returns.

DEF upgrade might be in the works for Serong potentially

Everyone is going to get on the Clug.

So if you really want to win prizes, it may be best to try something else. Not entirely sold on Finn Callaghan being a mid keeper, but I guess the unique bye and not everyone jumping on may make him worthwhile.

He will also never get tagged and (touch wood) seems durable enough.

Finn will never get tagged?

He gets someone running with him almost every week, its the one reason I avoid him

Everyone going McClugage, Dunkley for POD is what I'm thinking. Will never get a tag and wet weather footy just around the corner.

Thing is I rate Clug as a low risk play with upside, not sure you can gain much on the competition by fading him. 120k cheaper than Callaghan and 140k cheaper than Oliver as some suggested. Bont, Baz, Naicos all targets for a lot of people which may require cash in hand.

We are also seeing rookies start to dry up, some people might be doing double downgrades or getting in red dots soon. Maybe we will get some new ones with the mid season draft (after rd 11) but no guarantee they'll play straight away.

What if Clug gets tagged against Geel and GWS? Reasonably high chance he does and could quite possibly get tagged by Carlton as well. Plus his TOG is still around 70%, showing that he could be rested if they are up by a heap.
He could quite possibly only average 90 over the next month!

I don't see Clarry getting tagged over the next month and could avg 110.

So the question is, is 120 points worth $140K??

I am still tossing it up and t may come down to that $140K helping me get my last def rookie to Whit next week

Similar to my forwards post a couple of rounds ago, seems the midfield is everyone's thing to fix up and/or improve this week. So with that in mind, here is FP's rant on the top 25 midfielders (ranked by price) and a rating on whether you should (or should not) trade them in this week. Thank you work boredom.

  1. Nick Daicos - $1.191m - why do you not have him already? His average is nearly 10 clear of the next best. His shittest game this year was still only one tackle short of a ton. Gets the cheap disposals, goes forward for goals, racks them up, teams don't really tag him hard = perfect Fantasy pig - 10/10
  2. Bailey Smith - $1.186m - yes a stinker last weekend but the way things are going a score of 71 for doing absolute SFA and having no impact on the result is something everyone will take in AFL Fantasy, he never gets serious attention and loves to seagull (just maybe not in the last game) - 9/10
  3. Errol Gulden - $1.098m - 🏥🏥🏥/10
  4. Harry Sheezel - $1.089m - if you don't have him in the forward line you will lose (his lowest score this year is 80, way ahead of all other forwards), often gets leather poisoning, get him if you're one of the five serious coaches who don't have him already - 9/10
  5. Isaac Heeney - $1.047m - four straight tons, averaging 108, can go really big, lowest score of 65 now ages ago, must be under serious consideration, tag is a slight worry - 8/10
  6. Jordan Dawson - $1.046m - he has more important things to deal with, I traded him out though as in the end Fantasy waits for no one - condolences/10
  7. Zach Merrett - $1.035m - 150 one week, 60 the next, Essendon captain one week, looking for an apartment in Dingley the next, welcome to the world of Zach Merrett - 7/10
  8. Lachie Neale - $1.030m - an underrated pick, age is against him, so is the possibility of a heavy tag, but the guy should be considered by all (unless you're his wife) - 8/10
  9. Zak Butters - $1.027m - seems everyone has him and can be frustrating to have, capable of a big score even though with Rozee's long term injury he gets all the attention, lowest score is 84 so far, however the Match Review Panel may eventually have it in for him - 8/10
  10. Connor Rozee - $1.025m - see Errol Gulden/10
  11. Tom Green - $1.023m - see above/10
  12. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - $1.023m - looming as a must have, his teammates seem to want the ball in his hands, of course as the Saints main man he's going to cop it but seems able to break a tag, the D/P status also helps elevate his rating - 9/10
  13. Nik Martin - $1.022m - see Tom Green/10
  14. Will Ashcroft - $1.015m - possibly underpriced as he's coming into his own, in my view if you want a Brisbane player this is the guy, six tons, great to watch and importantly knows how to rack up the points, the only slight downside is the occasional 60 game (which he's had two of so far this year) - 9/10
  15. Max Holmes - $1.009m - seems to have a higher floor and think he has cemented his place as Geelong's most important midfielder (apologies Bazlenka), I suppose you could go a lot worse than him - 8/10
  16. Kysaiah Pickett - $1.008m - also looming as a must have like NWM, teammates seem to want to give him the ball and the D/P status will also improve his rating, must be considered surely - 9/10
  17. Will Setterfield - $1.006m - see Nik Martin/10
  18. Tom Liberatore - $1.003m - just no/10
  19. Jack Steele - $984k - the first sub-million player, unfortunately a very disappointing performance last weekend, think he needs the tackles to score big, for that reason I recommend avoiding especially this week - 3/10
  20. Sam Walsh - $983k - the frustrations with him are well documented, guy seems to have the fantasy game but rarely gets well past 100, with only one score past 107, you could do far worse and he could be value - 6/10
  21. Marcus Bontempelli - $980k - yes, the Bont is outside the top 20, but massive, massive risk trading him in this week, Bevo has almost guaranteed he will be managed sometime this season, however if he plays he drops the 28 from that Geelong game, kudos to you if you trade him in and somehow Bont dodges having managed minutes or games off - 5/10
  22. Ed Richards - $980k - Bont's teammate is probably a better and safer pick tbh, but not the most enticing pick, could be a real point of difference with only 8% of coaches having him - 6/10
  23. Christian Petracca - $965k - guess who's back, back again, Tracca's back, tell a friend, surely he's on your trade shortlist if he isn't in your team already, lowest non-injury affected score is 97, even gets D/P too - 10/10
  24. Clayton Oliver - $946k - another ex-Melbourne player coincidentally, building nicely but I still have qualms about his kick to handball ratio, at this price however and with a unique bye he is difficult to ignore - 8/10
  25. Jason Horne-Francis - $939k - decides to reward the umpteen amount of coaches that traded him in with his second worst score of the year, can go big, but this does mean you'd be taking a massive gamble trading him in now - 4/10
Not included but Fantasy relevant considerations this week summarised in five words or less:
29. Finn Callaghan - unique bye, low ceiling - 6/10
32. Jai Newcombe - Hawks player, even lower ceiling - 5/10
33. Andrew Brayshaw - I like throwing money away - 3/10
35. Caleb Serong - not even the best Serong - 3/10
39. Zac Bailey - undervalued, must consider as forward - 7/10
40. Justin McInerney - dependable, consider as forward - 7/10
41. Brad Hill - 93 average, consider as defender - 7/10
46. Chad Warner - back to usual, maybe forward - 5/10
51. Sam Berry - POD, monster game, outlier? - 5/10
54. Ollie Wines - treacle slow, but potential gun - 5/10
59. Shai Bolton - forward only, frustrating as f*** - 2/10
62. Tom Sparrow - try something different, could fire - 5/10
65. Hugh McCluggage - more popular than Jesus - 9/10

Everyone is going to get on the Clug.

Why wouldn't Callaghan be tagged? He was tagged the prior 2 weeks before the last game.

I just can't bring myself to spend almost 400k on Cumming, it's too much. After seeing how Angry fell off a cliff after I got him, and last week Retchko....

Might go WEdwards as a def rookie and save ~130k upfront.

Serong, Blamires, Farrow, Jagga are rookies ready to be slaughtered for coin. Kind of felt that Jagga was in the CBAs again but tough matchup this week. Serong is reliable but may have peaked now. Farrow's scoring has dropped off but his fixture opens up. Blamires getting dropped again makes the decision easier, but his BE is the lowest.

Targets all have issues:
Newman - tough matchup vs lions
Bont - sore/rest?
Clugg - will he actually average 100?
Whit/Callaghan/Oliver - for the easy fixture

Maybe I am overthinking Clugg and should just do it but I have missed the easy bombers matchup where he only got 109. Leaning towards picking one of the giants, most likely Whit but he is a serial burnman for me

I'm just short of Cumming so need to settle for Toby Murray. 70 in his system with us to play this week. Usually a Richmond game means a decent score so you'd hope for a 60 + banks 1-2 more weeks of JS. Fingers crossed.

Farrow > Murray
Grlj > McClugagge

I could also keep Grlj and trade Jagga or Duursma get Cumming. Hmm.

Anyone thinking of trading Serong over Farrow just due to Farrows easy run coming up?
I toyed with it last night as it got me two cheap upgrades rather than one.

But during the weekend games, I have a number of times told myself, he should be the last defender rookie upgraded. Scores well enough and isn't a first year player so should stay safe. Lindsay/Farrow will be deemed "due a rest" at some point (right when I need them)

It's crazy that you actually make money trading Serong or Farrow to Bergman.

Similar to my thinking, I mean we all know Clug's value right now is almost irresistable, the extra cash can be used somewhere down the line and could be critical, but when I made that list it was clear there's plenty of value in a handful of other mid keepers (even excluding Bont).

Now leaning towards avoiding Clug and if he gets injured/tagged then I'm ahead. But it's a big risk to take. Just cannot readily ignore someone who averaged 100, 103, 90, 97, 102 (and barely missed a game) now being priced in the 70s or so and building back from an injury.

Would it be crazy to choose Dunkley over McCluggage?

Dunkley puts up all time numbers against Carlton and could be a longer term play? Any thoughts? Am I overthinking?

I'm tossing up between Cumming and Murray at this stage - 400k is difficult to swallow but high draft pick and folks that spent 380k for Duursma at the start of the season would be feeling pretty happy about the wad of cash that has generated.

400k just seems too much to swallow for Cumming.

Feel like I have a lot of cows to cull so cash shouldn't be an issue. Getting the cash savings upfront by going someone close to 300k like WEdwards or Murray could be more beneficial for making upgrades fast in the coming week. I don't want Cumming to be like another Anderson where I miss his big cash rises and only get ~100k more from him over 3-4 weeks

does farrow even last to his good matchups which i presume is round 11 and 12 against richmond and westcoast? I think by that time he would be culled anyways.

I think with heavily discounted players like Clug, its just as much about what you can do with the money you save bringing them in over the alternative (so Finn in your case). $100+K can really help your team elsewhere - and that is where you can look to try something different...
