Yeah which could work against him in the courts, given his actions are whats created this environment for the kids.

Also, as far as I am aware, you need to be separated for at least 12 months before you can even file for divorce and then process can still some time - that's in Vic at least, but assume it would be similar in other states.

Courts don’t see it that way. Given that, the bias against fathers looking for 50/50 parenting is appalling. I’ve had two friends top themselves over the process .

Give this drongo a mouthfull

Ah the old AFL 'news' cycle.

One brain dead journalist makes a stupid suggestion, the rest of the IQ deficient slop feeders clamber other each other to repeat it as fast as possible. Suddenly the suggestion 'has legs', and is followed by 'I'm hearing'.
This lasts for a few days before dying off.
Until a few weeks later when, devoid of any original ideas, some cretin brings it up again and we repeat the cycle.

It's genuinely embarrassing for all concerned.

100% its Brisbane posturing again, similar to Ah Chee.

Cleary floating the story as a favor to someone, Dan is going nowhere and if they match it works into Bailey's favor for staying at the money he wants.

Sounds like Brisbane think Bailey is on the way out, and they're getting desperate to scare us away.
Sounds more like a journalist suddenly realised that the Curtin ant Brisbane is brothers with the Curtin at Adelaide.
In a rare moment of intellectual thought, he put two and two together and came up with a dried up tomato.

A journalist saying it and then it being repeated by other journalists, does not mean that there is any substance to it at all.

Could it be something where Brisbane flat out tell him 'look we're not paying you that much, so get on your way, but we will still match so we get something back' and the player goes along with it because they want to help their old club on the way out and don't want to leave on bad terms?
And when Bailey tells his manager to sign the contract Brisbane just put in front of him?

It’s fantasy.

If Brisbane want to match $1.3m offer they would have to be in position for him to accept. Especially when Bailey has come out and says he wants to stay.

Yeah if they could afford to match, they would already have offered that much
We wont trade for him at that price, it's the whole point of paying overs in salary

Curtin is not getting traded lol. Everyone can relax.

Brisbane have leaked this to get Crows to back off/convince Bailey to sign a lower amount now due to the ‘uncertainty’. It’s pure fantasy.

If Brisbane match, Crows pull out because the huge $ was predicated on not needing draft collateral. Brisbane then have to take Bailey’s contract that they’re not prepared to pay for now. It makes less than 0 sense.

And no one can explain how Brisbane are letting Bailey go because they can’t afford him but will be able to afford Curtin who will be looking for a BIG pay day. Where does that money come from?

Brisbane are still pissed about Ah Chee and are trying to rock the boat through their media connects knowing they’re losing Bailey for pick 18+.

But that’s the point. They’re hoarding all their academy and F/S talent that are going to expect to be paid and they’ve been loading up on their own FAs. This is what a salary cap is supposed to do. You can’t afford everyone.

Match and trade only makes sense when a player wants to leave and it’s not about money.

No one is suggesting he’s getting traded except for the journo

Absolutely no way we would take Bailey over Curtin.

That would be the end of this club.

Again, its just good luck.

Yes Brisbane are benefitting but it doesnt guarentee success. Look at the squads of talent that the Giants and Suns have assembled over the last decade and a half, all its resulted in is 1 extremely embarrassing GF appearance. Sydney have been better but even so, theyve been embarrassed in their last 2 GF appearances too.
It’s not good luck, it’s the outcome of a flawed system set up to grow the game in nsw and qld which has the not unintended side effect of giving huge advantages to clubs in nsw and qld.

The rules aren’t set in stone and given directly by god. When someone says ‘these rules suck’ it is no response at all to say ‘those are the rules’. We know they are the rules!

Yeah no I get that, I'm just trying to think of scenarios where we might have to trade for him like the media seems to think we will.

Bailey could easily 'change his mind' to no longer want to stay and instead nominate the Crows at Brisbane's behest, after they tell him 'look we can't pay you that much, but at least be a good bloke and get us something back'. That way they could move things around and match solely to force us to pay up. I mean Brisbane would be trying anything, especially after we made them look silly with the Ah Chee standoff last year. It's usually pretty doable to rort things like that a little bit right? Probably depends on how Bailey wants to handle the departure if it comes to that and whether he's happy to give them the peace sign and leave, or if he's reluctantly leaving and helps them to get something back.

Anyway, I'm in agreeance that if we have to pay him that much AND fork over significant trade capital, I'm not sure it's worth it anymore at that point.

No. The point was that some of them wont make it and the experience ( and inclusion ) would make the player feel more comfortable come draft day

Murray Bridge is in Wests Sanfl zone - but he plays for Sturt so maybe Sturts prior

He is in Adelaides academy zone
Murray Bridge used to be a Sturt zone until about 3 years ago if that's relevant.

The players who hold enough value for a trade (Rachele, Worrell, Curtin, Cook, Rankine), we would have zero interest in trading them, and the players we would want to trade, no one would want then.

Therefore, if Brisbane match and force a trade, I think we would offer something like a 2026 and 2027 first round pick for Zac Bailey and a 2026 second round pick back from the BL.

Not to mention that trading one good player for another doesn't help the club in getting better. Why would the Crows make that trade?
It’s like the Brett Chalmers/Ian Downsborough trade to Port at a much lower level.
A nil all draw with no benefit to either side

The Lions gun opened up on his free agency decision saying: "Of course, I want to stay (at the Lions)," Bailey told AFL Media. "I love this club.

"When it comes to contract years, there are a lot of factors you have to weigh up. I'm at that stage at the moment, just weighing things up. I won't rush into anything, but I'm loving my time at the club so far.

"I've been all over the place, but I love it up in Brisbane. It's hard to say, I think NT will always be home. But (Brisbane) is my second home now."

Nothing we didn’t already know. But Bailey being explicit about what he wants.
